The Toronto Blue Jays should fire Ross Atkins and name Marc Anthony as their next General Manager. He’s clearly got the chops for it—he understands influence, negotiation, and how to close a deal with nothing more than vibes.

Plus, the clubhouse playlists would be fire. It'd be like when we had that bongo playing idiot as our manager only the music would actually be GOOD

i hated the idea of giving Vlad big money. and I don't like this deal. but i'm just a life long Jays fan, and now i have no reason to root against it. Let's hope he lives up to this contract now

2025 FA's: $66.5M (Bo, Bassitt, Scherzer, Green, Swanson)

2026 FA's: ~$70M (Varsho, Springer, Straw, Gausman, Garcia)

How they reallocate this over the next couple of years combined with player development is going to determine their short term fate. Berrios opting out would be generous on his part as well, but I doubt it. If by some miracle that happens, then that frees up another $25M after 2026 (and another $25M in 2027).

I don't know if Atkins is the guy to get the team there, but they basically need AJ Preller/Dave Dombrowski level of GM'ing over the next few years. Just aim as high as humanly possible in free agency and trade. They don't have the farm system to go full Preller, but at this point trade anyone other than Nimmala and get the best talent you can get.

I wonder if the tone would be different if Vlad had gotten off to a hot start..lol.  I'm glad they signed him.  I'm excited for the doom and gloom guy saying this deal will be an albatross in less than 7 years.  You only have to wait 6 or 7 years before bumping this thread, and if he's good for the first 10 years, then you'll have to wait 11 to bump it.  f*** I might be dead in a decade...I'm glad he's a jay for life.

AAV still counts against the luxury tax regardless of front or back loading. Front vs backloading doesn't make much difference when you're a luxury tax spending team

I remember a buddy of mine admonishing me for drinking cold water on a hot day after we just played basketball because of some stuff he learned from Liverpool trainers when he did a tour of Anfield when he went to visit some family in the UK...all while lighting up a smoke.

325M of that is a signing bonus spread out over course of the deal. Meaning if there is a work stoppage Jays are still on the hook lol.

So what does this mean? In the event of a work stoppage they can still monkey around with the remaining 175 million?

lol Vladdy will have to pay 10s of Millions in lawyer fees because CRA will be coming after him till his death for that signing bonus..

Bautista, Martin and in hockey Taveras have had long battles with them.
