  1. Can I say something without everyone getting mad? Joe Mantiply has looked pretty good so far this year. 5.2 IP, 9 Ks, 2 BBs, 4 hits, 72.7% GB, 1.81 xFIP His Stuff+ was 107 last year but has jumped to 120 this year.
  2. Wow you're on a roll here! A reply post that doesn't even try to refute the original point (Spanky: Those teams don't project that well. JB: Um one of them might win their dogshit division and another one might finish .500), a random non sequitur about injuries that’s supposedly making some kind of argument, and the real cherry on top...a little under-the-table AA fanboying.
  3. I'm actually encouraged by stuff like this. We are playing like absolute dogshit and it's about as bad of a start to the season that you could imagine. Yet we're only 2.5 games behind the Yankees who are two Jordan Romano appearances away from a 9 game losing steak. Thing can only go up from here.
  4. Lmao yes if you say the team sucks and they won't win the World Series you will be right 99 percent of the time. Congrats. As for the rest of your post, one thing that projection systems never get right is playing time. I'm not sure how baked in all of these injuries are. 3 key pieces should be back in a week. Steamer is down on us (and they do funky stuff like project Varsho for negative defensive value) but Zips projects us to finish near the top of the AL East still. PECOTA has us competitive as well.
  5. The lineup has been complete ass but offense is suppressed league wide right now. League average OPS was .719 last year and this year it is .703. Despite all of the injuries, the Jays are barely behind average but the real kick in the nuts is the hitting with RISP. But for the love of god just win a damn series or two and by that point Barger, Springer and Yesavage will be back and we can expect some more competitive baseball. Then by the end of April we should have Berrios and Yimi back. Then Kirk by the end of May. The AL sucks this year so we should be fine. The Yankees are two Jordan Romano appearances from getting their s*** kicked in 4 games straight by the Angels. But we don't want to fall too far back.
  6. I was so furious after last night's game. The Brewers scoring two runs off of 5 weakly hit ground balls in a row was a huge kick in the nuts. The pitching matchups against the D-Bags aren't great for us so this is a must-win.
  7. Yeah I hear ya but 4–5 WAR is actually below his median outcome. That’s more like ~40th percentile. That's how good of a prospect he is. So even if Griffin hits his 20th percentile projections, he’s probably still signing his next contract for the "life changing money" he just got. I just don't think the Pirates are taking enough risk here. Griffin would need to be a real disaster (injury or ~10th percentile outcome) for the math to work out for him on this contract.
  8. On Schneider vs. Lukes today: Patrick really sucks against lefties and it's a huge question mark for him moving forward if he wants to start. I only know this because I own him in a deep fantasy league and have read everything available on him. He just doesn't have an effective pitch against lefties. So with all the injuries, I think it makes sense to stack our lefties at the top of the lineup against him. He doesn't have great stamina and almost never goes through the lineup a 3rd time. This configuration basically guarantees that he's done after 2 times through.
  9. If all we are doing is moving Hoffman to set up and Varland to CL we are just rearranging the deck chairs. Would need to move Hoffman to low leverage for this to make any meaningful difference. I don't think it's quite that dire yet. Hoffman's BABIP is over .500 right now.
  10. He was awesome yesterday. Ignited the comeback with a pinch hit single and then taking third on the Varsho blooper. He was even laughing when everyone was sweating bullets during the review. Can't faze Venezuelans.
  11. Agreed. If Konnor Griffin hits FA at 25 he could sign a billion dollar contract. McConigle could get a touch less as a 27 year old. Signing as a 30 year old cuts that in half. The "life changing" money argument doesn't really fly for me either. Anything short of catastrophic injury and they will make life changing money through arb and one year FA deals. Unfortunately, Vlad and Bo understood this.
  12. Yeah we've got a shot to bury the Brewers here. Their bullpen is mid and Patrick doesn't pitch very deep into games, even when he's clicking he can't go past 5. If Cease can give us 6 strong it will set us up well for tomorrow.
  13. Some pre-game notes: Sosa is active, Fitzgerald optioned. Yesavage aiming for 4 innings and 65 pitches tomorrow in Buffalo. If all goes well he could join the team in Anaheim. Berrios aiming for 3 innings and 50 pitches Thursday in Dunedin. After Gaus and Cease pitch this week, openers are being considered for the other starters
  14. This lineup is UGLY. Right from the start, you've got Ernie and Varsho, both with career .296 OBPs, setting the table for our $500 million dollar man. At least Gausman is on the mound and not one of the human gas cans we call our 3-4-5 starters, that gives us a chance.
  15. The roster fit is a little puzzling but I wouldn't worry too much about that bc they gave up very little. Rich is a 17th rounder who signed for slot. The PTBNL or cash considerations are probably based on Sosa's playing time? If he doesn't play much the Jays probably don't have to give up much more. If everyone is back they could option Lukes and cut bait with Eloy and make Sosa fit. Or they could try and trade Straw. Or they could simply cut Sosa and they are out a 17th round pick. Or this team is cursed and no one ever gets healthy and Sosa sticks around that way.
  16. We'll be fine offensively if we can get healthy. We are 11th in MLB in wRC+ right now but 28th with RISP, hence the low run total. That will even out. 3-4-5 in the rotation are killing us right now and that should get better too. Yesavage should be back soon and then Berrios shortly after that. And surely Lauer and Scherzer can't be this bad.
  17. Yeah I think it's Fitzgerald for now, but when Springer and Barger are back in a week then it will get interesting. They might have to option Lukes and DFA Eloy?
  18. Yeah a lefty might have been better but it's hard to find them in the infield. If Sosa himself was a lefty, he's probably starter material and would be much harder to acquire than for an 18 year old nobody.
  19. Rich hasn't debuted yet and he was a low pick so it's hard to find any info on him. Sosa is out of options, but has 3 more years of control after this one. He has some pop but not much else.
  20. It seems like in 10 days or so we should have Barger, Springer and Yesavage back. Just need to tread some water on this road trip. Thankfully the AL is sucking ass. Somehow we are only 2 games back of the AL East lead.
  21. This was probably mentioned but our bullpen didn't give up a run the entire series. But our starters combined to give up 19 runs and we lost 2 of the 3 games anyway.
  22. I bet the Twins thought they had it in the bag when they were up 4-0 lmao
