  1. Not even close. It is based on draft position, IIRC. If they are awful, but end up via lottery with the 7th pick, I think it becomes the 17th, If they get the 6th, they get the 6th, Could be wrong. If Toronto finishes 9th-worst but wins the lottery and gets No. 1 overall, that pick is protected because it's a top-six pick. If Toronto finishes 5th-worst, enters the lottery, and then ends up with No. 8, that pick is not a top-six pick, and it not protected and becomes 18th. This is how I read it. Could totally be wrong.
  2. I am torn between wanting the Jays to tank and end up bottom 6 to protect their draft pick, and cheering for them to somehow get the last WC spot. They will likely end up with neither. I mean, given the way the Jays have so far rolled snake eyes across the board this season ~ mostly with injuries ~ would anyone be surprised? I was looking it up, historically picks 1-10 generate 9.8 career WAR, where as picks 11-30 generate about 4.7 career WAR.
  3. What would a Gausman extension look like? Would he want 3 years?
  4. it sounds like he had major reconstructive surgery. I don't know how long specifically he will be out, but it sounds like he will likely not be ready for ST. I have been offline for about 18 hours, so I do not know the latest,
  5. I don't want to trade Varland or BV just for the sake of making a trade. I love Varland. But if, a big if, a farm-rich team offers their top prospect and more, I would listen. I hope, and suspect, the Jays are very open to re-signing Gausman. maybe a 2 or 3 year deal. In a perfect scenario, he is awesome his next start, is traded for a couple of decent prospect, and then re-signs in the off-season. I actually think this may happen. The next few weeks will be interesting. So much more interesting than their onfield product, that is for sure.
  6. On the tropic of 2027, so it sounds like none of these players will be ready to play by ST: Berrios Barger Francis Is there anyone else who will be injured to start the season?
  7. With so many holes to fill for 2027+, I consider trading Varland and BV, both of whom could be at their peak trade value, to fill some of the essentials. The only guy who is untouchable for me is Vladdy, simply because they could never move his contract. Yet, someone the Jays moved Vernon Wells back in the day. That one is still shocking. But Vladdy is one million times worse. Yesavage is also likely in that untouchable realm. Man, the FO has some serious work to do for next season. It's time for some big re-tooling. I hope we see at least 4 trades before the end of the deadline to infuse our farm with a little bit of talent.
  8. I think it's more like Edwin's story. I will have to take a look at both players' histories to assess ;)
  9. Getting Wood Richardson for cash is a little shocking. But then I looked at his numbers. I still think he can be a decent pitcher. Maybe the lab can straighten him out. I like this acquisition, because the gamble is minimal, and the reward could be a young, serviceable SP going forward. Fix him Pete!
  10. And demoted. His fastball was like ~ 84 mph. Is he done? Still hurt?
  11. I've always been coached if the guy behind you calls you off, you lay off.
  12. Folks, I have been offline a few days - is Barger back today? Activated? According to MLB.com he is not in the lineup and no demotions have been announced. I've scoured and cannot figure out what is currently happening... Not that it matters, but I demote Schneider and keep Pinango up. I have a good feeling about the latter. The kid can smash.
  13. I'd love to be a few games over .500 by the end of May. That would go a long way to improving our chances.
