Anyone else thinking that the wishy washy Bieber performance so far may result in him triggering his player option so he can have a full season in front of this Jays D to build his value before going to market?

He's probably still shaking the rust off from being out a year and a half.

I said pre series. Including Bruihl over Scherzer or Bassit made absoloutely no sense

 

I dont care about how they performed in September. Case in point look at Vladdy and even Varsho and Clement who didnt have strong september.

 

It's Max freaking Scherzer he needs to be on the roster even if its a bullpen role. Bassitt too

I don't think so, I believe a higher AAV show me deal with a player option tacked on is far more likely.

It's fun having a team that hates the Yankees as much as the fans do. Same goes for our broadcast team (Buck & Jamie Campbell). I bet Shapiro and Atkins hate Cashman too.

Nance over Scherzer for me. Scherzer looked so bad in September, he's gonna be nuke city in the postseason. Bassitt 100% if he's healthy and we'll need a 4th starter. Bo is obvious depending on health.

Agreed 100%. With Vladdy around forever this rivalry will be alive and well for a long time I think.

As long as he's healthy, he's opting out, IMO. Even if he opted out and had trouble getting a long term deal, I don't think teams would balk at a 1/16 deal for him if he had to settle for that. Hell, he gets $4M just for opting out. 

Ultimately my guess is he will end up a "hired gun", regardless of what happens the rest of the way. Which is fine. I'm probably less enthused about extending him now than I was two months ago, but there's still time for him to rewrite his Jays history.

Bo is barely jogging right now so it seems like if he makes the team he won't be 100%. I don't know if they are going to DH him or what but in any case they may want to keep IKF on the roster.

They could dump Bruihl and Nance and add Bassitt and Bo and just leave Scherzer off. That would be a 5 man bench and 8 man bullpen (which could work with the off days).

Honestly i don’t think Bo makes the roster. WS will be the aim for him

Also trying to get ALCS tickets this morning was a shitshow. 80,000 in the queue for each game and it sold out before I was able to get in.

Resale market it is!

I'm in the same boat regarding enthusiasm for retaining Bieber. The stuff looks decent but he has a pretty small margin of error when his command is faltering. Perhaps with a healthy offseason the command will return to prior levels though. If offseason funds allow both of Bieber and a top of the rotation arm to be acquired then go for it, but I think there are higher upside arms available for the rotation that should be primary targets ahead of Bieber.

When the tickets went on sale for the ALCS this morning the waiting list was over 90,000 people long

Ya I experienced all that in real time.  I was able to secure standing tickets for Game 2 of the ALDS so im happy to have already gone.  This is all gravy to me now.

i'd argue that he's already earned himself a significant payday, no matter how the remainder of his blue jays starts go.

it's such a relatively small sample size with toronto that teams are probably going to ignore a lot of the hard hit rate / home run stuff and focus on what's meaningful moving forward:

• the raw stuff is back up to where it was in 2022 when he was a 5 WAR player
• he's still getting an groundballs at an above average rate
• his swinging strike rate is well above average for a starting pitcher

nate eovaldi & sean manaea both got 3 for 75M and they were both significantly older with more risk involved. if bieber were to opt in, he's only making 16M and is a year older during his next free agency. bieber probably gets a similar AAV to those guys but more years tacked on b/c of his age & the nature of the free agency bidding war. my guess is probably something like 6 years for anything from 140-160M.

Annoying how Ticketmaster makes you hang in there forever just to show you they only have reseller tickets for 3-4 times above list price available.

Yup, and you can't even check another queue for a different game because you can only be in 1 at a time or it boots you out. Tied to your login so you can't exactly game the system either.

All of them? He's an extreme fly ball pitcher who subsequently gives up too many home runs and this will continue whether he's tipping his pitches or not.
