  1. Fernando Tatis Jr., who (in)famously started off the season with a severe power drought, not hitting his first homerun until May 30th, is now close to doubling Guerrero's season total, with 7 homeruns in the last month alone. wRC+ up to 116, 2.9 WAR.
  2. I’d say his true talent right now is around 120 wRC+, despite the slower start. Factor in one more offseason at his age and it’s more likely he’s in the 105-115 range next season realistically. He probably can be a very good contributor against lefties still, but there’s some mileage on those legs and entering the season at 37 it’s more likely than not that it starts to catch up. I’d maybe optimistically say 120 wRC+ next season is more like 20% likely.
  3. If the command was that big of a concern to them then he wouldn't be promoted; I think it's that simple honestly. The Yankees for example were pretty slow in moving Spencer Jones, so it's all about them showing that they're ready for the next developmental step. High walk rate guys can make it work, and if the stuff is good enough then teams can still treat them as legit prospects and promote accordingly. Robbie Ray, Dylan Cease come to mind as guys who have succeeded despite high walk rates in the minors and majors. Obviously I'm sure they still think King can iron out some of these walks into a more manageable rate. King just having turned 20 makes me think the walks aren't particularly concerning just yet, it might be a different story if he was a college guy who was supposed to be more polished. He's gonna be in AA at a younger age than the best college pitchers in next year's draft become professionals.
  4. What on earth are you taking about bro. I don’t know how you watch Gimenez on a daily basis and not recognize someone who is downright impressive. You might be getting a bit of an anti Jeter effect, where Gimenez makes it look so easy that it seems like he’s not elite. He makes plays that the average SS, or someone like Bichette, can’t even get to, look routine. Because he has elite defensive instincts and footwork.
  5. He’s 99th percentile range in SS defense…what. Gimenez is literally as good as they come, maybe save for literally only Bobby Witt Jr. Taylor Walls has negative OAA lol.
  6. Peterson threw over to first twice, to no avail. He then attempted a third pickoff throw and still didn't get Springer, which by the new disengagement rules is an automatic balk. Springer and Okamoto both awarded a base.
  7. Just saw this and needed to repost it because of how disgusting it made me feel. Myles Straw in the most recent Houston series (3 games): 4 XBH Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the month of May: 3 XBH Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the month of June: 4 XBH
  8. I don't think he's making the claim that Bateman is 100% a finished product and there's zero chance he can improve or stay the same to be a viable MLB player. I'm sure the Blue Jays view every prospect they acquire as the possibility to unlock a guy to perform at their best possible level. Statistically though, it's way more likely that Bateman is who he is, and he's not making some Jose Bautista esque journeyman to HOF transition. Not to mention, once again, there's things in his profile that prevent him from making changes like that, or if those changes would even result in improved performance. It's entirely possible Bateman has found his relative lack of success to this point by being the type of hitter that he currently is: patient, contact first approach, not putting the ball in the air too often where he doesn't have the strength to make it do damage, and putting most of his energy into being a good defender and runner. Maybe you tell him to change his swing or approach and now he's 2026 Myles Straw with an improved barrel rate and ISO, but getting on base far less and a lot of his batted balls in the air going for easy outs. Who knows if he even has the talent to make such changes. Hell, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with all the hitting talent in the world can't turn around from a season long slump. What makes you think Brett Bateman and his 2nd percentile Max EV, 15th percentile 90% EV in AAA, can even do this?
  9. You guys are being incredibly obtuse about this rather matter of fact statement that sliderguy made. There's quite a bit of public research done showing that line drive rate is very much luck driven, and previous year's line drive rate are not strongly predictive of future line drive rates, when compared to something like groundball rate. https://tht.fangraphs.com/the-control-hitters-have-over-ld/ https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/9125/checking-the-numbers-much-ado-about-liners/ https://blogs.fangraphs.com/why-line-drive-rate-isnt-sticky/ Yes, of course the super duper elite contact guys like Arraez, Freeman, Kwan are going to have more stable, consistently high rates. Picking and choosing anecdotal players where it works is not how these things work. If anyone is expecting Bateman to have that kind of contact ability, I have news to tell you. There's also significant factors differentiating the profile of a guy like Yandy Diaz from Bateman. There's usually a reason why a guy is 24 in AAA and the scouts aren't really making crazy claims about their tools.
  10. Are we sure about this? It seems like he wastes more time awkwardly taking off his glove to field it with the opposite hand than just charging it and picking it up with his dominant hand. If you look at the Velasquez play ahead, he recovers a lot more gracefully and athletically, by ditching the glove entirely and hard charging the ball. Not like he needed to Jeter jump throw to first, the angle is more or less the same regardless of which arm the pitcher decides to throw with.
  11. This guy seemingly does it for no reason than to flex that he can? But this has happened before at the MLB level, dictated by necessity: Velasquez gets drilled on his throwing arm, and switches to make the play using his off hand. An even more impressive play I would say.
  12. As incredible as Yordan is, he's an oft-injured DH with multiple knee surgeries who isn't super cheap - $26M per season - for the next two years. I think if we gave our top 4-5 prospects coming into the deadline: Nimmala, Parker, King, Perry/Stanifer, Keys I'm not sure the Astros are turning that down. That's two top 50 prospects, another two backend top 100, and a guy that's like a 45/45+ FV. Obviously they'd want someone like Yesavage as a centerpiece given that he's the closest to the majors out of all those guys, but then the team wouldn't have to tack on quite so many prospects. Doubt the Astros would have any real interest in moving him regardless, given their position in the standings in one of the worst divisions in the league.
  13. Yeah realistically this team goes as far as Vlad takes them. Springer might be our best hitter again, Kirk is slowly getting the bat caught up, Okamoto continues doing his thing, but the rest of the lineup is a bunch of slap hitters. Just yesterday Vlad f***ed up two easy opportunities to score runs, he's continually squandered opportunities. He needs to get his head out of his ass for the team to be able to go on a serious run. Way too many 3-1, 2-1, etc. victories. Zero f***ing homeruns in his home park jfc. It's August!!
  14. Bieber is giving up some serious tanks, luckily most to dead CF in this huge park.
  15. That’s a haul for the Orioles.
  16. Interesting trade. Taylor’s stock is up a lot and he’s now considered a top 100 prospect by some publications (e.g. fangraphs), but he’s old for AA and has hit tool concerns. Hicks isn’t much of a catcher defensively but hits very well and rarely strikes out.
  17. Yeah to be fair he would be a decent reclamation project. But I do think his attitude issues are more serious than a simple scenery change might fix. He’s constantly getting himself into messy spots for no good reason.
  18. Heineman is probably the best catcher they’ve had for a while lol.
  19. Duran sucks and has a terrible attitude. This is a prospect package for sure. Sure, maybe Duran is a throw in just to get rid of him, but he’s definitely not the headliner I would imagine.
