Noticed in the Toronto Sun it was reported that the reason no players have spoke publicly about AA's departure is because Rogers told them not to. This is the first time I heard about this. Rogers was probably afraid of more PR backlash if players tweeted out their support of AA.

It's really annoying that these fans are completely ignoring the fact he was offered an extension with an opt out (assuming that is true).

Exactly. Like wtf is Rogers supposed to do? Grab AA by the wrist, force a pen into his hand and forcibly make him sign the contract? He obviously doesn't want to be here that badly, whether it's because of his ego, morals, family, or whatever.

It was not nearly that bad 4 months ago. It is actually f***ing terrible now. And the sad part is that is how the majority of fans feel and think about AA's departure. You can even see some people on this forum that are furious at Shapiro for nothing.

The problem and truth of the matter is simply this. The majority of people are happiest being unhappy....

Could be something we don't know about. I don't think you should bash AA when you don't know the circumstances around the contract that was offered.

The root of the problem is that they couldn't properly evaluate the direction of the organization before approaching Shapiro. Once those talks started, everything else was virtually inevitable. None of it is Shapiro's or Anthopoulos' fault. One got hired to run the team and the other was the executive of the year still got replaced and demoted. You can't ask much more from either guy.

I'm not bashing anyone. We don't know the details of what happened. My issue is with all the idiots who keep blaming Shapiro and Rogers for AA leaving.

I saw an interview with JD on AA departure. He kept it very high road....said that AA reached out to him. He was thankful to AA but didn't seem overly concerned at all on the face of it.

It's the natural reaction from fans who didn't suffer through the losing, but suddenly know what's good for the team after following them for 2 months. They have no clue about the state of the farm system, or the contract situation, or the lack of SP options, etc, etc, etc. They only see the man who ended the playoff drought leaving.

As long as Shapiro and Rogers don't let public outcry impact what they do, then I really don't care. Let Shapiro and his staff fix the organizational issues without forcing him to appease to fans that will be there only when the team is doing well. Those fans will forget about AA next October if the Jays are back in the playoffs.

This is going to be yesterday's news very soon. And I'm looking forward to that. I'm no AA hater but he is gone of his own volition and its time to see what Shapiro can do. Next.

He knows MLB is a business especially since it happened to him. He goes from francishie player in Oakland to traded the next day.

Wonder if Shapiro values character and team chemistry.

Only him and Stro have said anything about it and they were interviewed about it. Gave pretty general vague answers. They know its a business tho

As bummed as I am to see AA leave, don't really see what he would have done in the years to come here in Toronto. Roster is in a good place for next season and beyond, no prospects to trade, and most of the work for next season needs to be done in FA to acquire pitching: something he doesn't like doing anyway.

After he was first insulted with a one year deal and not extended before the season!!! Plus why was he overlooked as President, is and was he not even given a chance or a Shot at it?

Then as the meteoric rise of the Jays was in effect he was then offered a 3 year deal !!!

After the Run and after Rogers f***ed up and there Media division told them the optics from the AA fall out would be great and bad for Revenue going forward. That's when we hear about this amazing offer they made!!! Lol

So now we believe Rogers as the bearer of Truth, when we know they have f***ing Lied or stretched the facts and truth before!!! Ya Right and nice hair can't win you a election either!

All hail the emperial overlords, Long live the rien of the Green Goblin, FYSMC !!!

Goodday, that is all !!! :)

What has Rogers said that contradicts what you're saying? If you want to take AA's side that's fine but someone could look at all that and still think he should have signed. In any case, whatever, it's no big loss.

They know its a business but trust me if Jose is really pissed about it we will know. He wasn't shy when nothing was done at the deadline in 2014 and his reaction to the Tulo deal was "we need pitching".

He is always a little veiled but his message is pretty clear when he is speaking out against something. Rogers would not be able to muzzle him.

The Shapiro era starting TODAY!

I didn't mind AA but he left the Jays so .... f*** him.

Lets hope for a long term winning team under the new boss. He knows his stuff.

A lot of people looking to make Rogers the bad guy here based on the changing offers (years/terms). I'm not sure why the offers wouldn't have changed over time.

Coming into this season: the Jays hadn't accomplished a whole lot under the AA/Beeston years (snazzy new uniforms aside).

Offer = Maybe extend him by 1 year to give him one final kick at the can.

Part-way through the season: the team is under .500, but with run differential suggesting the team should be better.

Offer = Maybe offer him a couple of years, in case he's onto something, but not too long, in case he's not.

President search = Let's get a guy who can assume both roles with Beeston leaving and maybe AA if this doesn't turn around.

End of season: Wow! Excitement! Attendance! Playoffs! Merchandise!

Offer = This is good, let's lock him up for 5 years. We'll even give him an out in case he doesn't get along with the new guy.

Not really sure what Alex is thinking here, unless it's that he doesn't want to be the GM of a team with little to no depth in the upper minors because he gutted the upper minors to make a run under the assumption that he was likely going to get the boot at the end of the season.

One possibility (among many) might be that AA wanted/expected a bump in payroll and wanted to spend a lot. He did mention Price in his end of season presser. Maybe that was one point of contention between him and Shapiro or between him and Rogers. In hindsight, it's really weird that he said some of the things he said given that he wasn't committed to staying.

Clearly Alex ran away scared because he's a bad gm

This is a good point that I haven't heard anywhere else. AAs goal may have been to re-establish a top 5 pay roll. Without a top-5 payroll he couldnt keep the team together the way he wanted. In his mind the revenue was there for a top 5 payroll and he felt he had earned it.

You still don't bail out on the team you created. He was given an opt out clause after one year, AA just showed his immaturity which also surprised me. As if you walk away from it, I say shame on you young man, you still have a lot to learn and you let it go to your head.

Difference is he has to do interviews with the media right after that happened. He's not going to get interviewed about the matter while he's at his house in the offseason.
