Yes, this doesn't make much sense from a speeding up the game perspective. I haven't read this whole thread, but it seems to me like enforcing the rules with respect to time between pitches and guys leaving the batter's box would be more effective.

Still, if you're going to misjudge a market, this is the way to do it.

Do you really need the anthem as a reminder of this though? Like, you forget how lucky you are until you hear the anthem? Loving and appreciating your country is completely awesome, and I've witnessed some amazing anthem moments at international competitions. Before every baseball game seems overkill to me. Why not every day at the beginning of work? Why not every night before going to bed? Why not before every meal? I think there's a point where the anthem is overdone, and almost becomes a distraction from a true appreciation of the country one lives in. IMO.
