  1. Sorry to be that guy, but popping off in the postseason can only happen if we make the postseason.
  2. Yimi hasn't really pitched in over a year. With no Spring Training and no ramping up, just be thankful his arm didn't fall off in game 1. If he can even get back to his former strength it's going to take time but I can't imagine he's slotting right in to high leverage anytime soon. Still might be more lucky than Hoffman tho.
  3. Relax, he's going to hit 100 bombs* *over the next 14 years.
  4. Mad respect for Scherzer, hopefully he'll find some old magic in the arm. I'm a bit older than him and need a rehab assignment every morning before I can walk downstairs.
  5. I understand what you're saying and I know it's difficult to assess relievers with their sample sizes, especially season to season. I hope his xFIP really is the telling story as some of his underlying numbers are there, maybe it'll balance out and he'll look like a stud down the 2nd half. One can hope.
  6. Yes that's true but the 2 years he's been with us has been 20% any way you look at it. Regardless, my counterpoint to the article is that he had one of the best BABIP last season and what happened?
  7. Sure it's noteworthy and there will be some leveling out.... He also had a very lucky .248 BABIP last season and gave us a whopping -0.4 fWAR. Where's that in the article. He can take his (very likely league leading) 20%+ hr/fb to a team that wants to bank on his luck to turn around. Thanks for the postseason memories though, it was good times.
  8. deGrom being 2nd on that list while missing time from Tommy John is wild.
  9. Bang on. He's been one of the most dominant pitchers for years but 2nd or 3rd best doesn't get the accolades (Arguably should have won a Cy Young a few years ago).
  10. Let's just keep this game tight through 6 and then dog it out.
  11. If we think Varland is a Cinderella story, see Sanchez' last 50 innings. This should be... fun.
  12. Oh yea..... same story every time. They can't just blame Henderson for booting a routine grounder. It's always... "f*** the umps" "f*** the Jays" "f*** their fans" "f*** Clement"
  13. People quickly forget it was best on best. Varland against Dodgers heart of the order or Yankees or Mariners. Postseason is hard with the pressure already but the competition isn't midseason Orioles. Varland pitched in 15/18 games (Hoffman only pitched in 10 FYI) and he was solid for us, throwing 100mph heat every game.
  14. I mean it's not fair to compare Bonds to an average MLB player when it comes to recovery time though. He wasn't an average MLB player or even a generational player, he's the goat... If there's one player that could just slot right in without rehabbing it's probably him because he would instantly make his team better even at 90%, especially being on steroids.
  15. Not to mention Bonds was juiced to the gills and could recover faster than 99%
  16. Turning into one of the worst FA signings at this point, we'll see after 5 years lol. I'd argue Tulo's 5 year contract we absorbed via trade is hard to top though.
  17. I totally get that and he may just be a 20hr guy going forward (his HR tear in the postseason was not his norm all year). Springer delivered more star power for us all season than Vlad and we're not winning anything if he's regressed to below replacement level leading off as DH after posting a 166 wRC+ last year and over 30 bombs. That hurts more, no?
  18. I get the vlad frustration on his power struggles, he's also by far not the worst issue we have on this team right now (At least his OBP is nearly .400). Without Springer replicating last year and Bo's production never replaced, the top of the line up isn't threatening anymore regardless of Vlad's output.
  19. I mean, going into this game we knew we were a patched up crew with no pitching available and were hopeful to have a close game. Reading the game thread, you'd think we were the 2024 white sox who turned into the 2025 Blue Jays. You guys got to just relax, a game doesn't define a season lol. Helluva comeback! Also, Charles McAdoo is an amazing name.
  20. This should be an awful game and I'll be ready to watch (with rum in hand)
  21. I'm totally good with Varland / Hoffman being used when it matters most. I think Schneider played it right, although Rogers in the 9th is always scary it's the weakest part of the order anyway.
  22. With Lukes and Guerrero back in, I really can't wait to see some reinforcements come in June. Garcia, Barger, Bieber, Kirk, Scherzer. Be nice to have a more complete team for the 2nd half.
