Not sure we really have room for another bullpen arm

Locks or Can't / won't be optioned:

Romano

Cimber

Richards

Garcia

Stripling

Mayza

No options remaining:

Borucki

Other options:

Merryweather

Vasquez

Pearson

I just can't imagine that if Pearson is throwing well that we'll put him in AAA and I see him as a huge part of this team. And if Merryweather is healthy and throwing well - I can't believe we're going to let him waste bullets in AAA. I guess that leaves 1 spot available if we are just going to cut Borucki. It seems almost guaranteed without adding anyone that Vasquez is going to AAA. I guess I could see us optioning Richards

And this is all assuming an 8 man bullpen - which doesn't happen unless we're going with a 3 man bench (13 pitcher, 12 position players).

I just don't think there's anyway we are adding Kenley Jansen right now. I hope we hold back some payroll flexibility and add to the pen if it becomes required during the season.

Lol that bullpen sucks and definitely can be improved upon

YESSSSSS GREG BIRD!!!!

GiVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!

BIRD, BIRD, BIRD, BIRD, BIRD!

Nope, in Dunedin.

Looks more like a road trip lineup. Oh well, maybe on the Sunday televised game there will be a real lineup. Don't want to tune in to the scrubs.

Question...we've been told that Groshans will probably be switched off SS to 3rd base. Some of the reason is SS is occupied by Bo and the other is his body type may not suit SS. Do you think that he could he should be considered for 2nd base?

The one I missed that we signed is Mallex Smith. Forgot he existed, actually.

I feel like we got him last season...

Absolutely. 2B/OF is a definite possibility

It’s unlikely but not impossible that Groshans breaks out big time and forces his way into the majors.

I remember watching videos of him running and thinking.... this is a LF/RF/1B body.

I suppose 3B kinda fits that mold too.

Although there are a few bigger guys like Tulo and Correa that don’t look like your typical SS

Could Greg Bird be the LH hitter this team needs?

DH/1B when Vladdy is DH.

162 game average 28 HRs and 85 RBI

Just needs to stay healthy.

Bird and Mallex Smith are both guys that fit the team's needs perfectly (LH power DH, LH 4th OF). Unfortunately, neither of them are probably any good. Smith had that one really good season a few years ago but nothing since. Bird just can't stay healthy.

Imagine a scenario where Greg Bird is in the Jays lineup on a regular basis. Either the team is on pace to win 65 games after a year of suckage and injuries. Or the team is winning 120 games because ON TOP of the already awesome offense, Bird becomes the next Bautista out of nowhere lol.

I remember being envious of the NYY and the young Greg Bird. He burst on to the scene as a 22 year old with a .871 OPS in 46 games.

Might not be so far fetched for him to have a bit of a run with this line-up

Imagine Bird being this years Colabello or Smoak lol

It's possible, all he has ever done is rake. Hopefully he's past his injury woes, last year he played 112 games, most since '13.

his numbers were not great for a 28 year old 1B in AAA

There are few things I'd like more than to watch 700k Greg Bird outperform 16M Anthony Rizzo this year...

Very good #s

112 games-27 HRs, 91 RBI-.362 OBP - .894 OPS

You missed the " for a 28 year old in AAA part " .... a 28 year old in AAA should be destroying AAA, not being merely above average.

You impress easily, don't you?

Small sample size or not, "all he's ever done is rake" is a pretty colourful assessment of his career.

It sure would be nice if he rakes for us though.
