I am in favour of realignment, for one. Universal DH for two. Expanded playoffs for three. The CBA discussions will be interesting. I think the MLBPA likes all three of those notions.

I think if you lose Semien, you need to replace him with a high impact position player. I dont think Espinal/Biggio are the answers.

 

Same goes for Ray, they need to replace him with another top of the rotation guy.

 

Personally, I would be floating Pearson + Kirk + other futures to replace Semien through trade.

 

Id bring back Ray.

 

Fix the BP.

 

Identify another starter or two that you think you can fix and let them + Stripling and Hatch compete for the 5th starter job.

 

Replace Montoyo.

I liked what they did last off-season. Maybe hand out a big contract to either ray or semien and then some short term deals to players with bounce back potential. Syndergaard might be cool for the narrative but he might be cooked. Semien and ray had disappointing seasons but they weren't injury prone.

Sign Syndergaard- he needs to come back to his draft team- and resign Semien and Matz. Shore up 3B through trade or FA. Elite team.

I thought about Seager at the deadline, but I am not sure he is the answer going forward...definitely on the decline.

- Replace Montoyo with any decent manager, easiest & surest improvement to make

- Re-sign Ray and Mats

- Sign a good left bat Corner OF or 3B

- Bring Bigio back to 2B

- Trade Grichuk for a over-priced but decent BP arm

- Sign a good closer/set-up man

We are in a great position to bring back the same level of team with a much improved bullpen. That would make us legit world series contenders for sure. Really hope Semien can take satisfaction from being the best 2B in the game. Dude is going to win silver slugger and the Gold glove probably.

There should be about 50-60 million to spend and not many holes to fill. A top notch starter is the obvious one but I think they should have the other 4 spots covered with Manoah, Berrios, Ryu and 1 of Pearson/Stripling/Hatch. Biggio/Espinal can cover 1 infield spot so they can spend a chunk on another options for either 3rd or 2nd. They can't spend all that on long term deals given raises are coming but 1 short and 1 long term seems reasonable with a little chunk for a couple holes in the pen. Ray + Story perhaps? Seager + Syndergaard? Correa + Scherzer?
