Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 The team is missing Belt, Bo, Chapman and Jansen right now and is 50% made up of AAA players. 6-3 isn't at all bad given how many key regulars are out of commission at the moment. Kirk has been hot, Schneider has been hot, Espinal has been hot. Jansen also was healthy for some of it. Quite frankly I'm not sure the lineup would have done much better with those guys in it. The hitting was mostly there. About as good as it's been all season quite frankly. So I can't accept this premise. 6-3 with the schedule we have coming up and the number of wins we still have to get is a thumbs down.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Well take those thumbs and shove them you know where. 6-3 is fine as evident by us not being in a playoff spot prior to that stretch of games to being in one now. If we keep going 6-3, or even 5-4, we'll make the playoffs.

A sweep of KC would make the whole swing feel much, much better though. They NEEDED to bank wins on this stretch and I am not sure they banked enough. Blarghhjgjkfdgjfdklg
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Actually 16 of 30 teams are either in a playoff spot currently or within a couple of games of playoff spot so literally most teams can say they are playing meaningful baseball. Also, 6-3 given the quality of competition that we faced f***ing sucks. Ok Mr Technical got it

MikeM3 Verified Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Texas is mentally broken after the Ragans trade. Crippling trade on the field and clubhouse
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Chapman or Ryu? Chapman, ya dingleberry.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 7-5 against the Guardians, Nats, Rockies, and A's is pretty bad, injuries or not. Luckily the Rangers have been awful so the Jays actually gained ground over that stretch but that should have been at least a win or two better for the Jays. Hopefully they can sweep the Royals, but I believe one of the games is against Ragans, and the Jays have a hard enough time hitting s*** pitching much less good pitching, so can't assume anything there. The Jays also need to win 3/4 against the Rangers to hold the tiebreaker in case they finish with the same record. It's a toss up at this point. The Rangers are free falling but all they have to do is right the ship for a week and be right back in the drivers seat.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 How many wins do we think gets us in at this point?
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 How many wins do we think gets us in at this point? 89 might be the number, maybe 90, maybe 88. Depends on so many things. Looking ahead at our schedule though, it'll be a grind to get to 89.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 How many wins do we think gets us in at this point? Projections have the AL @ 89 and NL @ 83 wins.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Projections have the AL @ 89 and NL @ 83 wins. Who was it that was saying AL wildcard 3 was gonna be 95 wins?? Was that connor? Lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Pretty embarrassing though if the NL wildcard 3 team only hits 83 wins
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Who was it that was saying AL wildcard 3 was gonna be 95 wins?? Was that connor? Lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If we can't go 6-4 on this homestand and go 6-6 against a disinterested Yankees team and a Rays team on cruise control we don't deserve to get in anyway.

Yeah 6-3 isn't that bad regardless. Even with Belt, Bo, Chapman and Jansen, this team could have still went 6-3.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Chapman, ya dingleberry. Chapman is a no brainer. Would you offer a QO to Ryu?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Chapman is a no brainer. Would you offer a QO to Ryu? No. Get him back on a discount, he just milked the Jays millions, lol.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 We good with a 2-3 year deal for Ryu?
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 We good with a 2-3 year deal for Ryu? I doubt he get a 3 year deal, it comes down to priorities - Ryu would be low on my list, big bat LF #1 and they need to decide what's happening at 3B and DH - then if there's money left over I give Ryu 2/14M or something like that. I'd also rather spend on a big arm flame thrower to compliment Romano
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 No. Get him back on a discount, he just milked the Jays millions, lol. Haha. Yeah I bet Ryu still will get $12-15M from someone on a one or two year deal given how he's pitched since coming back.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 We good with a 2-3 year deal for Ryu? I think 2 years is the max I would go with him. Would prefer one. As long as the money is available and it won't tie the Jays hands down this offseason, at the deadline and in the 24/25 offseason from adding to the roster, I'm fine with bringing back Ryu. If money will be tight, would rather save that money and spend it elsewhere.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Haha. Yeah I bet Ryu still will get $12-15M from someone on a one or two year deal given how he's pitched since coming back. If he finishes off his what, next 4 starts the way he's pitching, I see 15 guaranteed with a team option buyout, Max 18, maybe.

Yeah I bet Ryu still will get $12-15M from someone on a one or two year deal given how he's pitched since coming back. AAV? That seems a bit lofty Maybe 2 years at an AAV of $8M or $9M he is throwing well enough but the velo is still declined
deanmike Verified Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Not sure if anyone else caught BNS appearance on Jays Talk Plus yesterday, but he cleared up a lot of the confusion surrounding the Manoah situation to the point where it's pretty easy to infer what's going on at this point. Quote from BNS yesterday: "My understanding is Manoah's going to have some further testing done, that's going to happen sometime soon. Manoah has reported some physical symptoms related to his quad, back and knee and wants to get those checked out, and it sounds like the Blue Jays are on board with him getting those things checked out. But at this point no injury has been found, and Manoah is going to continue visiting specialists and see where that leads." Before I continued listening to this BNS segment, my first thought immediately was "Manoah is just trying to find a specialist who will diagnose him with an injury so he can go on the IL and continue collecting major league pay and service time instead of grinding it out on that minors salary." The very next part of the segment, Blake Murphy wonders why Manoah's camp hasn't pushed back against the Jays not putting him on IL if he's still reporting physical symptoms. BNS responds with "I'm not sure why you would assume that hasn't happened, I would think that it probably has happened already." The Manoah mystery is over everyone. Manoah thinks he's too good to be grinding it out in the minors, is seeking out a specialist that is willing to diagnose him with something and is having trouble (because he isn't actually hurt he just thinks he's too good for the minors), and the Jays are challenging him to find a specialist who will say he's injured while they continue to (rightfully) play hardball with placing him on IL.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Who was it that was saying AL wildcard 3 was gonna be 95 wins?? Was that connor? Lol Not sure. DickPole came in hot and said he put big money down on Jays getting 95 Ws. I don't think he is in the money on that one. Such a weird year. Teo and Vlad have the exact same wRC+, and Gabby Moreno has outslugged Kirk. Today begins the final push. Go Jays!

I'm not surprised. Manoah comes off as a huge douche. Hopefully the testing he's getting is fitness testing and his next step is to check into Jenny Craig. I originally thought that Manoah might swallow his pride, get into the gym with a chip on his shoulder and do everything he can to return to his previous form. I'm a lot less hopeful that will happen these days.

It's discrimination!!!!
