Hernandez has been traded to the Mariners.

Please don't let it be for Flexen!

I always hate seeing the initial tweets without the return being known. Drives me crazy with anticipation!

Also, I dont want Flexen at all, dude cant miss bats to save his friggin life.

9:49am: TSN’s Scott Mitchell tweets that the Blue Jays will be getting bullpen help in return for Hernandez. Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times tweets that known trade candidate Chris Flexen is not a part of this deal.

Can't be JUST pen help, there's gotta be more to it than that.

Kelenic + Marco Gonzales is my guess.

That's as bad as Flexen, unless you believe Kelenic is fixable, which he might be. I think his k-rate and stuff is like not great but not .170 hitter bad.

Marco Gonzeles is worse than Flexen in terms of underlying metrics... isn't he?

Teoscar is only worth like $5 to $8M in surplus value so it could very well just be reliever(s) if controllable

9:52am: Seattle is sending right-handed reliever Erik Swanson and pitching prospect Adam Macko to the Blue Jays in the trade, Divish reports.

Teoscar for Swanson + Adam Macko

Seems light to me. Swanson is legit but Macko is kind of a lottery ticket. starting Position player for reliever + Lottery ticket just rubs me the wrong way

win

by the way this means Springer is probably moving to RF and the team probably wants to bring in a pure CF

If this clears a way to add Nimmo... I love it.

Swanson is 1st year Arb eligible in 2023. 3 years of team control left. Here's his Statcast page from last season:

Swanson's Savant page has a lot of sexy red on it. 3 years of control. If he isn't a flash in the pan, this has good potential.

The main point of this is probably to free up payroll space. Hopefully they don't blow it on someone.

Oh damn Adam Macko looks interesting.

10. Adam Macko, SP

Drafted: 7th Round, 2019 from Vauxhall HS (AB) (SEA)

Age 21.4 Height 6′ 0″ Weight 170 Bat / Thr L / L FV 40+

Tool Grades (Present/Future)

Fastball Slider Curveball Command Sits/Tops

45/55 55/55 55/60 30/45 90-94 / 98

Macko was a 2019 seventh round high schooler who was drafted because of his proclivity for spin and his physical projection. His fastball sat 87-90 mph during his first pro summer but was parked closer to the 92-94 mph range, topping out at 98, in 2021, though he’s been in the 90-92 range again this year. He’s got a scaled down version of the Clayton Kershaw build, with a thick lower half and short levers, but Macko’s delivery looks more like Ryan Buchter’s. His sweeping breaking ball, which he throws with his forefinger entirely off the baseball, is already plus even though it doesn’t have the velocity of your typical contemporary power-pitcher’s breaking ball, bending in at about 82 mph. But the flat angle of Macko’s fastball, it’s riding life, and the way his breaking balls play off of it (including as a back-foot weapon against righties) give him a power pitcher’s style. He’s struck out more than a third of the batters he faced during his pro career, but is still in a relief risk area as a prospect due to below-average command and repertoire depth. Macko is still just 21 and doesn’t have to be added to the 40-man roster until after the 2023 season, giving him ample time to show that he can sustain his peak velocities and polish up what he needs to and project as a starter. In the event that he does move to the bullpen, he projects as a late-inning option, especially if he enjoys a velo spike in shorter outings.

It could also just mean they are going to sign Conforto to a 1 year deal....or that Merrifield is going to play a lot of OF this year....

Or it could mean they are moving Moreno for Carroll :) or for Thomas + young stud SP prospect.

Big time K rates the past 2 years....albeit with big time walk rates also...

The upside is real for sure. He's a strikeout machine that can't throw strikes consistently.

I love me some Nimmo, but I really worry the required term will put him in the same boat Springer is. You get a year or 2 of him playing CF and then you're looking to move him to LF or RF.

It is not Nimmo. Atkins will trade a catcher for an OF from Arizona. The savings from Teo will be used to fund part of Rondon's salary.

I agree, it's a win. The casual fans will hate it. "We traded our cleanup hitter for a relief pitcher and some minor leaguer"

Trades like this are how smart teams remain competitive for longer even as it angers the fanbase occasionally

I like the idea of signing Senga & trading Moreno+ for Corbin Carroll.

Guys - let's stop pretending that we're going to land Corbin Carroll in a trade. Dave Stewart is no longer the GM.

All that means is we need to match/exceed value to get it done.

It could still happen. The above trade matches the value. You could sub out Jimenez and add someone better to exceed Carroll's value and get it down, or add another guy to the proposed package and achieve the same result.

It's not impossible.
