jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Lars Nootbar or bust imo. Just look at this statcast page https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/lars-nootbaar-663457 That is who you want. I agree, though he's going to at least cost Kirk or Moreno + most likely. Plus, not sure if the Cards want to move him. Cards probably would be open to a Jansen/O'Neill swap since both have two years remaining and are similar type of hitters.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Maybe the Jays had Senga in the back of their mind when signing Kikuchi. I would think it'd help a bit having a Japanese player on the roster when trying to attract these guys from the NPB. I see the Cubs are also in the running, they have Suzuki, who has the same agents as Senga.

He was a .250 hitting noodle in the minors with a good k/bb. Small Cavaet is that his k/bb was good and almost all of that was done as a 20 and 21 year old. His 22 year old season was wiped out by Covid, then called up after 30 games as a 23 year old. Same can be said of Kirk though, and Kirk raked in 2019 as a 20 year old.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Bro, if they traded Lindor, Lindor would’ve been a 2b. He’s never coming off until maybe he tells the Jays behind closed doors he’s signing somewhere else when he’s an FA Come on man you don't really believe that. I recall Bo reportedly offered to move off of short stop several years ago to allow for a Didi Gregorius signing, so you can rest assured he sure as well would've had no issues moving for a world class defender like Lindor.

Usually when a deal is that hot, as it was, the player will be like “I just want to do whatever it takes to win etc etc”.. Bo went on the record saying the Jays never even discussed it with him and he was planning on being the Jays SS… as Jays were actually pursuing Lindor, it’s unlikely they didn’t even discuss with Bo his feelings on the position change (as they already likely knew). I’m sure their conversations were with Lindor’s team just like Sem’s, which was “are you ok playing 2b” No logic stretch there

I’m sure their conversations were with Lindor’s team just like Sem’s, which was “are you ok playing 2b” No logic stretch there The Semien situtation was different as he was only a one year "rental". The team didn't want to move Bo for good when they didn't have a long term short stop option to replace him with. Had the team been able to sign Semien for more than a single season as they had attempted I suspect things would have played out differently with Semien taking over short stop and Bo moving to accomodate.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 As much as I would love that deal to happen, doubt the Astros part with Abreu as well especially since he's one of their younger BP arms and after the Postseason he just had. Urquidy + another young unproven raw BP arm with some upside more likely. To be honest, I think the Jays could go out and sign a similar arm as Urquidy in free agency. He's nothing that special. Uhm... that's why the deal would be fair?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 I think if you can get a legit above average Defensive SS that can actually hit you make that move with Bo otherwise you keep him where he is. He’s mostly fine there.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Uhm... that's why the deal would be fair? Astros likely won't want to part with Abreu for an injury prone catcher with only 2 years of control left. They probably view him as their next bullpen ace, closer of the future.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 lol I don't understand what's funny haha. Cards won't want Jansen for Noot.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins. Jansen for O'Neill is probably more than enough, with the Jays maybe throwing something else the Cards way.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins. If they refuse to do O'Neill for Jansen then they can find a new trade partner. Kirk for O'Neill would be highway robbery. Hicks has no real value. Negligible value. Same with Alex Reyes. I mean I'd take either as a kicker but they don't move the needle.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 I don't understand what's funny haha. Cards won't want Jansen for Noot. Dude, you said Kirk or Moreno+ for him, gtfoh, lol??? I never mentioned Jano.
Iggy Verified Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Found an interesting article on the Rule 5 draft + prospects that need to be added to 40 man rosters https://www.mlb.com/news/rule-5-draft-prospects-protected-on-40-man-rosters I assume the Jays and other teams would prefer not to sign a FA prior to Nov 15 as those players would need to added to the 40 man roster and as such, a prospect would have to be exposed in the Rule 5 draft
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins. Welp... what's everyone smoking??? lmao

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins. Jays also have Pearson and Merryweather. Hicks doesn't move the needle anymore given his recent struggles, injuries and inconsistency. I would take a flier on him, but then roster space will start becoming an issue.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Okay. That's fair value though or in the ballpark. Probably yeah. Though i dont think Houston is looking for a 2 year stop-gap with Maldonado only signed through 2023. I bet they're out shopping for a guy they think can be their COTF after spending a year with Maldonado in some sort of 60/40 role. They'd be looking at Kirk or Moreno from the Jays. What they would be willing to part with is another question entirely.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Kirk for ONeill and Hicks. Get it done Shatkins. If its Ryan Helsley instead of Hicks I’m in.

It's laughable hearing that Nootbar would cost Kirk or Moreno "+" Lol. I wouldn't do the deal straight up for either, let alone "+". It's the opposite. Jansen for Nootbar is much closer.
