Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Pearson news: Not ideal but I guess it's a lot better than an injury. Ruh roh, Pearson has been making out with high-school girls.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Author Posted April 5, 2022 I'm surprised both Thornton and Saucedo made it. Merryweather Thornton Saucedo Romano Mayza Garcia Cimber Richards Stripling Phelps Unless they're planning on entering camp with more than 15 pitchers or making a surprise decision on one of the other guys above, it looks like they're sending Vasquez down and waiving Borucki?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Ruh roh, Pearson has been making out with high-school girls. Florida is a college town give him some credit. They were atleast Freshman. Mono definitely went through my University one year lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith Trent Thornton, Tayler Saucedo & Julian Merryweather have been told they made the #BlueJays per Charlie Montoyo It sucks having 3 relievers that I would only like to see in low leverage rolls. Merryweather has some upside at least but he’s either looked very good or very bad. Thornton and Saucedo are always bad. I was shocked when Thornton was tendered a contract

Borucki is "hurt" right now, could easily start the season on the IL.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Author Posted April 5, 2022 Nevermind, I'm dumn. It looks like they already announced Vasquez has been sent to AAA. Borucki is "hurt" right now, could easily start the season on the IL. Missed that too. So now neither of those call-ups are surprising to me, lol. Still, I don't understand their fascination with the trash can that is Thornton. I'd rather see someone like Castro in that role.

They sent Vasquez down and Borucki's hurt.

Castro and Thornton are the same for me. Bad pitchers with kind of okay stuff.

Trent Thornton had a rather good spring with apparently increased velocity (according to Jeff Blair). I think he clinched a spot when Pearson got sick because he can give us some length.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Pearson news: Not ideal but I guess it's a lot better than an injury. The luck this kid has man, undiagnosed sports hernia into mono. Who knows when he will be healthy, the recovery time is anywhere from a few weeks to a couple months.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 If he's "hurt" I'm guessing they toss him on the IL and try to get him sorted out once he's "healthy" and can get a few rehab outings in.
Signal Verified Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Why did the Jays not get more relief pitching? WHY?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Why did the Jays not get more relief pitching? WHY? We got relief pitching mid season last year for an modest price and they were very good. Let's just see what we have here to start the season.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 We got relief pitching mid season last year for an modest price and they were very good. Let's just see what we have here to start the season. 1 more legit swing/miss guy would be preferred, but that's probably universal across baseball. There's enough talent on the roster to be effective, it's just a matter of health and consistency - which is univeral across baseball. Romano, Mayza and Yimi - while not the most imposing trio in the world by any stretch, can get the job done. Richards and Cimber are both steady and reliable. Phelps could be the huge with his talent. Merryweather has tremendous potential to be lethal. Stripling is what he is and wont be in high leverage situation. The only real questions in the pen is whether they will get anything from anyone left handed aside from Mayza.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Hopefully the Jays can pick up Rosenthal. Obviously he's far from a sure thing, but if he stays healthy the guy is all about missing bats. He probably wants to be a closer, but maybe he'll want to chase a title.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Not feeling the Jays pitching, maybe 3 reliable SPs, and no solid depth.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Not feeling the Jays pitching, maybe 3 reliable SPs, and no solid depth. You don't believe in Manoah or what? I think we have 4 and Kikuchi is an awfully talented 4th starter that was an all-star last year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Not feeling the Jays pitching, maybe 3 reliable SPs, and no solid depth. bad take carlos

I think we have 4 and Kikuchi is an awfully talented 4th starter that was an all-star last year. I assume he’s tossing Ryu under the bus. You’re getting spoiled wanting a great #4 and #5 but the depth thing is valid imo.. well idk. Guess depth is average idk. Not much past Stripling
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Hatch and Kay and Bowden Francis would be SP 8 to 10 I guess. That's not bad...
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Not feeling the Jays pitching, maybe 3 reliable SPs, and no solid depth. Lol what?

I think we have 4 and Kikuchi is an awfully talented 4th starter that was an all-star last year. Don’t believe in 4 and 5. Manoah is fine, talent needs to equal results and Ryu is just not dependable IMO. Worried pen will get wore down, burnt out and don’t see the depth.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Lol what? IIR that was the same/similar reaction you had when I criticized the the Roark deal and told you he sucked.

Worried pen will get wore down, burnt out and don’t see the depth. Manoah is number 4. Ryu is, has been, and projects to be a very good pitcher. Whatever concerns you have about him are not based in any logic or facts.
