My biggest piss off in the last twenty years in baseball is when New Yankee Stadium was built MLB didn't enforce it's minimum fence distances against the Yankees. It's a beautiful stadium to watch a game in but boy does that still piss me off.

There is now 2 stadiums in the AL East where 'pull dat ball' for right handed hitters isn't the best idea,

With 18 games in Camden and Yankee Stadium teams that hit to all fields have an advantage in the AL East.

Espy worth 2x WAR so far vs the addition of dreams, Matt Chapman

Both worth more than the supposed "generational talent".

@JordanHorrobin

Some high praise from Hunter Greene re: Jays fans and the city of Toronto:

"To see it up close, to walk through the city, I just love the culture and the architecture … The atmosphere here is amazing. You could just feel the whole stadium was locked in every pitch."

He's coming from Cincy, so Toronto looks like a 10 to him.

Shots fired! Vlad is a stud, bro. Going on a tear soon enough lol

Will coincide with Biggio's return and 3-4 WAR output

Until Biggio flattens out his swing a bit, he isn't going anywhere near 3-4 WAR. That upper cut approach doesn't cut it anymore and he's nowhere near strong enough to get away with it.

Pretty sure he was trolling me but not completely sure. There’s a lot of Biggio love here

Tapia has more PA than Kirk this season. This is with Jansen being hurt almost all year.

All those lead off at-bats helped. Glad he got to hit more than anyone else on the team.

3-4 WAR potential there easy, you just need to squint really hard. Its there.

Yup. Just a tweak away.

Who the hell is the hitting coach anyway? Let's fire him and bring back Dante Bichette, one of the greatest hitters in MLB history. A guy who had an all-time great season when he put up a .298/.354/.541 slashline for the Rockies in 1999. Dude had 133 RBI that year so surely he could teach the team something about hitting with RISP.

I wouldn’t necessarily fire a hitting coach, but maybe hire a few more? I know the giants last year had a ton of success and they increased their major league staff a lot.

Different guys can connect with different players.

They already have 3, the hitting coach, his assistant and a guy they call the hitting strategist.

The hitting strategist is Dave Hudgens, former hitting coach of the Astros (2015-2018).

So yeah they basically have 3 hitting coaches. Maybe the problem is they’re teaching opposing strategies or something?

Idk it just seems crazy that this lineup is consistently failing to get hits with RISP, and they’re barely hitting homeruns when they’re supposed to be a power heavy group.

Yeah but honestly mental approach is a big part of what they do. So maybe his success with RISP is something he leans on. Obviously they tinker with mechanics but also dig into the mental part of it. I know because these former big leaguers end up in the baseball factories giving lessons. I was always very adverse when paying $120-140/hr to some dude when he spent too much time talking about mental stuff lol

As we all know it is never to soon to think about long term contracts... we have a young core that we need to keep together so here are the offers I would make

Guerrero - A big guy with one good season. Is he a .780 OPS ground ball machine? Or the all-star we saw for one year? Offer him 10 years 100 million. Fair for both sides. We take the risk that he is a 0 WAR ground ball monster and the 100 million is a waste, he gets guaranteed money.

Bichette - a short stop with D-problems and chase problems but some upside as we have seen at times. Offer him 10 years 100 million. Again risk on both sides.

Hernandez, Gurriel, - chasers with good seasons mixed with horrible ones - 2 years 8 million for both... gives them some money, and time to hit free agency soon enough if they re-establish themselves.

Kirk - 7 years, 20 million - fair for a no power fat catcher...

OK. You think I am kidding but I am not. If these guys continue down this road they lose hundreds of millions in career earnings. If the hitting coach can't inspire them maybe someone should tell them the going rates for 0-2 WAR players?

Not surprised by this at all, unfortunately. The moment Tapia was acquired you knew he was going to play too much.

The best lineup is Kirk and Jansen at DH and catcher. When one catches, the other DH's. It sucks that the position player depth is so bad that the two catchers playing at the same time is the optimal lineup, but it is what it is. Yet, Jansen comes back, and Buntoyo refuses to play that lineup. I think he's done it once since Jansen came back. He's still giving DH opportunities to Collins based on like a 5 day hot streak in April that inflated his numbers. He has a 20 wRC+ in his last 48 PA's, which accounts for 70% of his PA's on the season.

As much as I can't stand Charlie, I think the blame has to be shared with the front office. The depth on this team sucks, and if you load the bench with scrubs and hand that roster off to a minor league manager who wants to play everybody, then you kind of deserve what you get.

What about freaking Biggio? The algorithm should have been give Kirk and Biggio most of the at bats that have gone to Tapia. Then adjust June 1st if needed. Give the guys who have potential to get on base the chance to fail.

I think they got too fancy with Biggio, and the Keith Law 'can't hit the fastball' crap. They predicted failure and replaced him with a player who also is a failure. They should have let Biggio play... and if he failed deal with it. Predicting Biggio's failure and at the same time predicting success for Tapia was a terrible play.

Being forced to choose between the lesser of two evils isn’t an ideal scenario to say the least.

There were many people here engaging in a circle jerk of Tapia’s potential. Easy to dump on it at this point

Biggio had One hit for his first 23 Ab's which included 10 strike outs. He looked completely overmatched. Was he hurt? Maybe. SSS? Maybe. He looked horrid. No one likes Tapia, but Biggio is not the answer.
