  1. Its been obvious for years that this isn't a smart front office especially in the context of this division.
  2. It is absolutely imperative that the front office that trades Vlad and Bo is not this front office. They have shown no talent at picking prospects or being able to develop them.
  3. Fire the entire front office and start again. Trade vlad and bo right now to start it if you have to.
  4. He'll be there ten years next december.
  5. We don't need a people person. We need people who can build a development system and then acquire talent that we can develop. He's not bad at soft skills, he's bad at core skills. Just because he's bad at social skills does not mean he is smart.
  6. Atkins genius is convincing fans he is smart when he isn't. Great.. he understands team control. So does everyone else. His FO cannot identify talent that they can develop. They are a mediocre ass front office that runs a pretty high pay roll. Should have been gone. Should be replaced now so that when we do have to trade vlad and bo, its done by a competent person.
  7. We did this before and are now married to 9 years ongoing of the two guys from cleveland who can't do pitching. Maybe go for the guy who fell into our laps and be ready to fire fast as a change of pace.
  8. I didn't say he is a pitching dev savant. He's available so he allows us to not let atkins to make any more dumb decisions. He also had an important role in two of the smartest franchises in baseball. He should know who to hire. Take a hard look in two years and see what we have coming, and our development, and then unlike atkins fire him if you need to.
  9. Atkins has been here nine years and years ago on here people were telling me its too soon to know if we could develop pitching, you have to wait for the lab and so on. Click has been here a year and six months and he is not the boss, and he should have solved this? Ridiculous.
  10. Hopefully, this is what happened.
  11. I would just give Click the job, let him handle the trade deadline (which i think was an important deadline) and then he can hire his guys during the summer.
  12. I kind of checked out waiting for Atkins to get fired and it almost feels like he won't be. It was so obvious so early that they can't develop pitching (they are from cleveland!) and should have been gone when that was obvious. He is so fake smart. Yes, we have all heard about team control. It was the cutting edge 15 years ago. Not good enough in this division.
  13. I think the thought process of which catcher gets more is flawed if that is how the FO approached it. Moreno obviously has a ceiling (and to me it was obvious at the time) that could effect a teams window. A long term under control elite catching prospect is a prize. If the front office went into it thinking who is available that fits what we need, and will they take one of our catchers.. that’s already a weak bargaining position. I think they overrate control except the one time it absolutely really matters. I’m not even saying that Varsho is a bad player. He’s obviously very valuable but Moreno isn’t the kind of chip you use there. It also violated just the rule of common sense that trading for a guy right after a big breakout season for a top prospect who just had a little shine taken off by his first exposure to the bigs….might end up backfiring.
  14. The Moreno trade where just doing what the rays would have done and trading Jansen would have made way more sense.
  15. If this is literally true, he should be fired tomorrow.
  16. Thats possible, i’ll give you that. To me that’s worse though. The front office should be smarter than the manager in modern baseball and you’d expect them to have a big say in most decisions. I’m probably in the minority but i’d prefer if the fo was involved heavily and they just messed this one up. That’s better to me than hiring a minor league manager and giving him that much rope. At the very least there should be an analytics guy with real say in those meetings.
  17. I honestly think he did. He emphasized that those decisions were made in schneider’s meetings,,, which in my opinion ignores a s*** ton of context. He also made it seem like the FO played a passive role when it came to analysis and information dissemination.. which i find hard to believe.
  18. At the letters most recent podcast is interesting. I think released before Atkin’s press conference. On John Schneider, they talk a bit about how he is part of an organizational philosophy, part of a ‘collective’, and doesn’t deserve individual blame. One of them also said (can never tell which is which) he had a bad year, and the other disagreed. I’m very interested in hearing the next podcast now Atkins threw Schneider under the bus.
  19. Its more like they aren’t idiots and know that they didn’t hire a minor league manager and give them 1990s manager power.
  20. I’d have a ton more respect for Atkins if he gave the rationale for the decision, and then stood by it. If i was ownership, i’d want to know why the dude in a uniform in the dugout is making these decisions when i’m paying all this money for my front office. Either hire someone who makes better decisions (either in the FO or the dugout), or stand by the decision that the process came to. The idea that the manager makes the decisions with basically no active input from the front office is INSANE. That’s fireable to me. One bad decision in one playoff game where scored zero runs is meaningless compared to that.
  21. He hired two of those in a row then. 100% of his manager hires are duds if that is true.
  22. Yea hiring first time mlb managers who obviously have little power and then pinning the blame on them screams terrible culture. Which makes sense. Weird underperformance in hitting. Always feel like not hitting our potential. Sounds like a bad culture to me.
  23. Before that press conference i thought there was no chance he was getting fired but after… that was very unprofessional. Seemed kind of desperate and mean.
  24. Atkins basically admitted we run things like a team in like 2015 where they still havenÂ’t figured out how to effectively feed knowledge to management/players and he hires dumb managers. And that is him covering his ass. This is not a smart front office. Its been very clear for a long time. Hopefully, we have a deepish playoff run before the end of this window.. and then they hire better. Also, its not a smart front office and from a more human pov Atkins is a weasel.
  25. Its intentional with the rays. Injury prone guys are easier to get and if you have enough of them, on average you’ll always have pitchers with great stuff.
