gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Who do they have ahead of Vlad? Soto? Mike Trout might have something to say about this. I also expect Springer to be a bit higher (.860ish). No respect for Teo.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Eventually the projection systems are going to start recognizing Teoscar as the offensive monster he's turned into. Over his last 1049 plate appearances he's produced an OPS of .891. I like Teoscar but I think the system is recognizing that his k/bb is pretty bad and it's unlikely he'll maintain a .290 average
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Kirk full time DH is an easy way to improve the team. I'm not totally convinced the rotating DH works, impression was last year that when Springer had to DH he wasn't healthy enough to hit well. Same with Lourdes Springer hit like .200 .300 .400 as DH. Lourdes even worse. And Lourdes went 0/16 last week of season as DH.

If we get him, does that take us out of the Ray sweepstakes? I'd say there's a 95% chance it would yes.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I don't think mistakenly slotting a beat-up, "80%" Springer into the DH-role means the DH rotation doesn't work. Most of the lineup stayed remarkably healthy, so would that not be evidence that "getting guys off their feet" over a 162-game run has value?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I don't think mistakenly slotting a beat-up, "80%" Springer into the DH-role means the DH rotation doesn't work. Most of the lineup stayed remarkably healthy, so would that not be evidence that "getting guys off their feet" over a 162-game run has value? That's a fair point. I'd have to look more into the breakdown of when players DHd. Gurriel DHing and going 0/16 in the most important games of the year (after getting his hand crushed by Grichuk) also was bad use of the DH. If Kirk still catched a bit he could maybe do 110 games as DH 30-40 as catcher and still leave 50 games open for breaks for other players. Just that last year it seemed like a lot DH at bats went to obviously hurting players (Springer, Gurriel) or guys who can't hit enough for DH (Grichuk, Panik) edit: Panik didn't really DH other than maybe a game or two, but for some reason a lineup with Panik as DH really sticks out in my head.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I think Springer DHing all that time was probably a bad use of the DH anyway. The Gurriel situation is a bit different in that the season was down to the wire and before his hand got stepped on, Gurriel was the team's best hitter. Then again, maybe the DH rotation doesn't help much either and the core guys are otherwise very durable.

Yeah Springer just should have been on the IL more Sucks but it probably would have been better for him overall
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Yeah, more and more I want the Jays to pour money into free agent pitching and then run with: Jansen - catcher Kirk - DH / catcher Espinal - 3B Then when Moreno is ready: Jansen - catcher Kirk - DH / catcher Moreno - 3B / catcher Espinal - Bench / 3B
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 They did say they were spending.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 David Phelps back on a minor league deal. This is a small W for sure.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Very nice depth signing.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Phelps was solid until that injury. Hopefully he can find that again
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Marlins still looking for an OF. Probably not going to dip into FA again. Send them Grichuk or Lourdes for some of that pitching!!!
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Jose De León is a nice little depth signing as well. He sucks but is an absolute K machine, if we get lucky with reliever volatility and he stops giving up a homerun every other batter we could have a decent arm to eat up the 6-7th innings perhaps.

Send them Grichuk or Lourdes for some of that pitching!!! I'm sure if there was a way to get rid of grichuks 10m dollar contract he would in a heart beat. I'm afraid we either have to just cut him and eat it or live with him.

Send them Grichuk or Lourdes for some of that pitching!!! Considering what the Marlins gave Avisail Garcia, they might be the only team on the planet that might see Grichuk at 2/18 as a reasonable deal.

FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Yeah, more and more I want the Jays to pour money into free agent pitching and then run with: Jansen - catcher Kirk - DH / catcher Espinal - 3B Then when Moreno is ready: Jansen - catcher Kirk - DH / catcher Moreno - 3B / catcher Espinal - Bench / 3B I agree. The way Jansen recovered as the year went on, makes me comfortable as the starting C. Kirk is projected for a wRC+ of 125; as a 23 year old. The fact that people here are so willing to trade him is confusing. And Moreno is the best of the bunch and can play C and 3rd. They can easily rotate between the 3 positions to give them all lots of ABs. All 3 players can get regular at bats if it's utilized properly. Now I'd be OK with using one (except Moreno) in a package for a top young starter, but other than that, buy a position player until these players are fully ready.

Kirk is simply the most expendable Blue Jay, and could return the young starter you refer to. A win-win deal for both sides, in other words.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Hypothetical trade: Jays get: 3B/INF Jose Ramirez SP Shane Bieber Guardians get: SS Bo Bichette C Alejandro Kirk OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. P Nate Pearson plus mid level prospect Crazy trade proposal I know, but i’ve been thinking about it for a few days and it probably makes sense for both teams. Also checked trade value on that trade calculator site and the value is fairly even. Sign Corey Seager or one of the other FA Shortstops, Biggio plays 2nd. Don’t make fun of me please.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Probably a less than zero chance they trade Bo.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Yeah, Bo not going anywhere. Ketel is the better target

For me that is robbing Peter to pay Paul. So now you have your 3b, and you need to start looking for a SS of equal caliber.. The only way something like that works is if we sign a Story or Seager etc... However, I am inclined to agree we would not move Bo..
