When is the last time the Orioles developed and kept a stud SP rather than watch them flourish elsewhere?

Probably Erik Bedard or Chris Tillman, depending on how strictly you follow your criteria.

remember we used to have terrible Gm JP richardi and he used to sign the 1 good year played players for 4-5 years contract

Lyle overbay, BJ ryan and Corey kosky

they all became terrible players after 1 good year

So, if Gausman comes to toronto , same thing happened and another night mare for blue jays

He also played in Baltimore and he had terrible career while he was in orioles so yankees and red sox and rays knows how to beat him

I disagree.

So, are you saying never sign FAs?

Posted
Koskie was very good, Overbay was acquired in trade, BJ Ryan was a top closer when signed.

Why are we responding to this moron?

Weren’t you guys considering giving him a BORED team?

Posted
you need to look at the stats that is constant , not likely gausman who was winning 3-5 games a year average but all of the sudden before FA he won 14 games, which can screw team
Posted
you dont get it. Koskie was terrible when he was at Blue jays, Overbay was strikeout machine when needs to hit, BJ ryan did too many Blown save at Blue jays. What you think is like JP richardi which is 1 good year before free agent and giving them 4-5 years which will waste too much money while you need to see someone is constant that wont waste money

Yes, we were looking far and wide to replace quitters, one of which reversed a ragequit once the thinking part of the brain clicked on.

No. But it's probably easier to do that when you're in shape.

I don't really care that much, it's just funny that their workout videos are like normal middle-aged dude workout videos.

I'm middle aged and I can't do that stuff Vladdy was doing without zappers nearby.

Before your time someone vouched for Randy the Robot. I forget who that was though

Can we merge all this guys threads into one?

I'm always tempted to just merge whatever brain drippings he leaks out into the General Jays thread. I'll never understand why someone thinks every stray thought they have merits an entire thread.

We just need to sign someone. Last season no one was spending money. This year the Yankees and Sox seem willing to spend again. The dodgers are always there. The Angels are pushing and then teams like Texas, Seattle, Miami, the Giants all have a crap ton of money to spend.

I think this is an understated part of this off season. The Jays were in a great spot last winter when they were one of maybe 3-4 teams that was actually spending money. It made signing top free agents far more realistic, and Shatkins did the right thing by spending big when the opportunity was there. A Springer type of FA in this winter's market is likely much more coveted and would be more difficult to sign. This winter has way more teams involved, which means more competition for FA's (driving the prices up), and way more money being spent in general. Granted, the Jays should be a much more attractive team to FA's after 2021 than they were after 2019-2020, so maybe that helps a bit, but they are still in a tough position when it comes to free agency.

In that scenario, maybe Rodon actually is a realistic target. It's possible that teams get scared of his medicals/injury history combined with his likely asking price (Boras), leaving him looking for a contract late into the winter. To some degree, that's how the Jays ended up with Ryu, as they were the only team willing to take the risk of giving him more than 2-3 years. With more conventional FA targets, even with the success of the 2021 season, I think the Jays are at more of a disadvantage again.

The seemingly more competitive FA market this year is why it makes more sense for 1 FA SP signing, and 1 SP acquired by trade, as I've posted a few times.
