Never better. Just hold off on the holier than thou stuff in the future, ok.

But let's say for arguments sake he's not a pretender...and he is holier than thou. Does he still need to hold off, or can he proceed?

No?

How about you make better posts in the future

Well, I think we’re getting side tracked from the original purpose which was comparing $ amounts then and now. So if anything Hamilton’s character issues/red flags would’ve driven his contract down

As far as who they are as players/people, I totally agree they are apple/oranges

ah my bad, didn't see this was where the comparison originated

No worries. That’s what usually happens, stuff goes off in different directions quickly lol

If someone wants to link me to the original post I'll delete that too. I just don't feel like looking for it.

Buck Martinez on the radio "the Jays haven't had a legit center fielder since Vernon Wells*

I wonder what he's sipping on today? Bourbon, Scotch, cognac?

He sure wasn't talking about Pillar that way when he was on the team.

He MAY have some short term memory problems...

from Keith Law's article on Springer:

The Springer agreement probably cements Cavan Biggio’s return to second base, where he’s a below-average defender, and his inability to hit major-league quality fastballs — exploited by Tampa Bay in the playoffs — makes him a liability at the plate as well.

lol

f*** Keith Law - he's a ****.

4 fWAR through 159 games. Projects as a 3-win player. LIABILITY.

There isn't a baseball journalist I dislike more than Keith Law. He's next level arrogant, and absolutely will not admit to being wrong. It's honestly embarrassing to witness at this point.

Not gonna lie... im not high on Biggio as most of the people here. Feels like people here have him rated as the 2nd best young player after Bo.

He can play all over the field at an average to below average rate. 2B is the only spot he has a chance to be above average imo. Love the IQ though.

The year is 2050

Cavan Biggio's HOF induction day

A 77 year old Keith Law, writing for the Delaware Retirement Home listserve:

"A liability in big situations and a mediocre playoff performer due to his inability to hit major league fastballs, and a below-average defender everywhere on the diamond despite what the now outdated defensive metrics said at the time, one wonders how a player as flawed as Biggio stuck around long enough to become even a fringe Hall of Fame candidate. The truth is that there has not since Harold Baines been a player less deserving elected to Cooperstown -- Biggio snuck in due to counting stats, the legacy of his father, flaws in the WAR calculations used on the 2020s, and the general ignorance of younger voters. Next Sunday make sure to check out my email for a review of Wrinkle Romp, an exciting and sexy new tabletop RPG for seniors."

Well, in fairness Steamer has him at a .237/.354/.405 line so clearly his value comes mostly on his ability to get on-base rather than hit. Based on projections anyway

Right but KL is so disingenuous about it he always frames it as if Biggio is a bad offensive player because he probably won't hit for AVG.

Wow, he really hates the Blue Jays.

HeÂ’s only been around a season. Let it play out. IÂ’m down on Cavan because IÂ’ve looked for what Law has said. HeÂ’s versatile but may end up in a utility role due to the limitations discussed. He definitely looks overwhelmed vs high velocity

Holy s*** it looks like your keyboard is having an aneurysm.

jesus christ. If they wanted him off the books they could pay him his entire contract in 5 seasons and have him at the 6 year for free.

lol... that's basically what happened. I feel Ray might've mis-worded that, I hope.

Ah yes, he was exposed by Tampa Bay in 2 games with like 7 at bats. Against two of the best pitchers in baseball.

Definitely a liability at the plate.

You can talk about whatever you want within the rules of the message board. It would be wise however to wait for final confirmation of the contract details before picking it apart. For all we know right now, there is a reasonable buyout on year 6, or something like that.

In general, I don't think any Blue Jays fan should worry much about a big contract like this. To say that fans should not care about the money because it is not their money is a trite point... fans should care when the deal could reasonably hurt the organization in the future by limiting their ability to retain players, sign new players, and stay competitive. There are many examples of bad contracts severely restricting baseball organizations.

But here, the Blue Jays are wonderfully positioned to take the risks involved with these big silly contracts - they have little in guaranteed payroll commitments over the next few years and you have to squint uncomfortably hard to imagine a future where one $25M contract in 2025/2026 will prevent the team from doing anything meaningful. The Blue Jays should carry high payrolls given their ownership structure and market.

And even if the Springer contract does go bad and Toronto does not get their money worth, the plain fact that Rogers was willing to write this cheque should be an exciting thing for Blue Jays fans going forward. It's a signal (along with Ryu last year) that the team is ready to cement its place as a big player (likely in the second tier of teams, behind the really big spenders).

That's all to say - to immediately hone in on year 6 and discuss how the contract is an overpay by about one Tanner Roark is just kind of sad right now. Like, a depressing way to see the world, man.

POTY!!

Well, he isn't wrong... what am I missing? Unless you're talking about defense?

ETA: Law's such a childish dick.
