I think we absolutely need to see what we have in Rowdy. Projects as a solidly above average and we know there is potential for him to be much better than he projects.

I'm not saying he should have endless rope, but we need to plan him getting consistent AB's at the start of the season.

I think he had a great year last year. I am willing to give him full time ABs as a fan.

So who get's DFA'd when Springer needs to be added to the 40-man? It'll come down to Fisher and Davis.

I'm thinking they are still enamoured enough with Fisher to give him another shot. Also fits better in terms of handedness.

An arm, likely Waguespack.

I think you keep Fisher through Spring Training if you can - just as insurance against a major injury. There are a few arms that will bounce around the 40 man pretty easily.

I can't imagine watching Fisher play OF ever again. Team might have an attachment to him though.

Nothing against Fisher personally but he seems like a lost cause headcase. Guy has 70-grade speed but doesn't know how steal a base. Lets routine popups hit him in the face more than once.

If Yasiel Puig and Guerrero Jr. had a love-child, he might be as baseball IQ stupid as Fisher.

I got the feeling the FO was fed up with the Fisher miscues, too. Wasn't he put on the IL a day after making two brutal errors? I don't think he is long for this roster. IMO, he just looks horrible out in the OF, like he's a converted slowpitch player or something.

That's racist!

He was dealing with a mental block. Like Altuve getting the yips last year (and being unable to throw the ball to 1st base). Who knows where is his mentally right now, but there's no denying the guy has incredible tools. Massive exit velocity, 70 grade speed and he walks a lot. There's a ton of tools there....but a good chance he never puts it together.

He's out of options, but may sneak onto the team as a 5th OFer. It may also hinge on what they decide for ML roster this year. Will they be expanded due to COVID again this year? If so, Fisher may stick and could get another chance if injuries hit.

Davis has an option, it will be Fisher, as of today.

George Springer Notes: Astros, Mets, BravesJanuary 21st, 2021 at 7:27pm CST • By Connor Byrne

Outfielder George Springer, arguably the premier position player on this winter’s open market, came off the free-agent board when he agreed to a six-year, $150MM contract with the Blue Jays earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, though, other teams made a serious push to sign the three-time All-Star. The Astros were not one of those clubs, however, as Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle suggests they made no real attempt to re-sign Springer after he turned down their $18.9MM qualifying offer.

The Mets, who were considered one of the front-runners to ink Springer during his stay on the market, offered a six-year deal worth $120MM to $125MM, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com

So we outbid the Mets by 25 million dollars for real?

"He really wanted to come to Toronto"

Ah well...I'll take it lol.

Their initial offer before Lindor was prob what the Jays offered- was reported as such too... worked out for Jays Lindor going there. Unless one wanted Lindor of course. I always wanted Springer

I wanted 5 years of Springer more than anything

6/120 is a non-offer, there were reports saying 5/115-125 wasn't getting it done and I'm sure most would prefer 5/125 over 6/150. It's pretty clear the Mets backed off on aggressively pursuing Springer, or they were kidding themselves if they thought he was taking a significant discount to play for them.

I had hope if we signed Springer that we'd be in a better position to trade for Lindor but that was always a bit unrealistic lol.

Lindors the better and younger player but I really wanted Springer because of our need at CF. Also doesnt hurt that we didn't have to give up a bunch of prospects for him either. I'm ecstatic regardless.

Yeah, I wish we couldve gotten both, but seems pretty unrealistic in hindsight.

If we got Lindor, the mets wouldve never let springer slip away. But instead they got lindor and were limited with how much they could spend, allowing us to get springer.

It was probably always going to be one or the other and not both.

Beautiful! Much easier to extend our core with only 22.5M/Y tied up to Springer on the back end.

That’s a great contract for the team; still gives them lots of flexibility in the second half of it and Springer shouldn’t have a hard time providing value then.

Front loading the deal makes it worth a lot more to George Springer than the standard, evenly distributed 6/$150M contract would be. That also means it's more expensive to the team than a normal 6/$150M MLB deal would be (well, it's more expensive to the owner really).

Fans shouldn't care though because the only concern should be the team's ability to retain and add talent down the road and front loading the deal helps on that front.

I like the initial signing bonus with only $22 million outlay in 2021, that leaves a little more payroll space for extra additions.

That doesn't make sense.

Rogers is paying him $32M in 2021. If anything, the huge total outlay in 2021 takes away from other possible spending.

Yea I’m thinking he’s confusing it with other leagues where they use signing bonuses to circumvent the hard cap.
