Skinny Vlad might surprise us at third base.

Vlad coming up from AAA didn't look great there, before fat Vlad and now "skinny" Vlad. Is he skinnier than when he came up from AAA, or just skinnier then fat Vlad.. Regardless.. I really don't want him at 3B...

Professional front offices use metrics to determine how to improve the team. Those were not my words, they came from our FO and I agree 100%. You don't want to take one step fwd and two steps back. The 2015 team was something like plus 125 runs scored at the All Star break, but two games under 500. You need run prevention and D to win and win in the playoffs, not just offense. IMO putting Vlad at 3b would be a horrible move contrary to every KPI and objective for this team.

Okay, so last year we had various black holes at 3B, and 2 guys who could hit at 1B. It would have been more valuable to the team to put one of the guys who could hit at 3B, so you had non-black-holes at both of those positions EVEN if the one who you moved to 3B was a shite fielder.

If (hypothetical numbers) Vladdy is putting up a 140 wRC+ and Tellez is putting up a 130 wRC+ and Travis f***ing Shaw is putting up a 90 wRC+ as our primary 3B, you accept a few airmailed throws from Vladdy to get Shaw the f*** out, and get Tellez and Vladdy both into the lineup.

Also, weren't you one of the guys who was saying "f*** it, Biggio can probably play CF" earlier this off season?

Jays must have a trade in place if they get Springer... *drools*

Shapiro has ties with Brantley as well when they were in Cleveland. If the Jays could land Brantley as well, what a lineup!

Posted
Sure, doesn't change the fact the last few years of Springer will likely be old Pujols like.

Man you're a wet blanket. His last few years could also be Nelson Cruz like, or David Ortiz like, or Adrian Beltre like, or Justin Turner like, or Joey Votto like. There are all kinds potential outcomes. We sign a massive FA and you're caught up in what that 6th year may look like. C'mon man. Be a fan.

I didn't take it as him not liking the signing, but as just being a little disappointed that Toronto is permanently in the position of having to overpay due to it being in Canada. He's saving his FO reach around for the guys that get FAs to sign here for the same price as it would take anywhere else.

That'll never happen though.

That's the reality. Toronto has to overpay.

You're right, but it's ironic coming from the guy who's been Johnny Negative over the past few days...

As to Biggio, I said he A) Has the speed B) I think he has the instincts to run good routes since he played WR in high school. I don't know how good he would be, I think he can def do it.

We saw s*** D from guys we would expect to play good D in the playoffs.. I wouldn't expect gold glove from guys we don't expect. Rays baseball and the Rays vs Dodgers WS showed how important D is, and how deadly it is giving an extra out etc.. Not fair to our pitchers to have Vlad at 3B when none of our other IFs are anywhere near Gold Glove... Kills our pitchers..

Springer putting in that work already.

Sounds like he's selling the Jays and Brantley on this, instead of the Jays getting Springer to convince Brantley.

Obviously a trade would need to be lined up.

Yeah trade when you have to doesnt always end well though. I like Brantley but would rather see other needs filled. Definitely one of the 2nd tier SP.

OMG - so many people kept going on and on and on and on about how Shapiro only dumpster dives and they don't know how to run a large market team. Like because they came from a small market team (which they built up very well) that they were only capable of running a team one way. This should FINALLY shut them all the f*** up. They told us they would spend when the time was right and now they have. Everyone should have a very high level of faith in this FO.

People are complaining they paid too much, you can't win in social media, lol.

Im sure you could build a strong package for a solid #2/3 starter with Teoscar or Lourdes included...

I'd prefer both , but Bauer would be about the only signing that would change the offseason narrative.

That's odd, 2 days ago you told us that signing Bauer was the only thing to change the offseason narrative. Now you can't remember even signing on. Still agree with that?

Yeah basically. I mean love George Springer as a player but wasn't a huge fan of the 6th year/extra $25 but I understand why the Jays felt like they had offer it to get the singing.

At the end of the day I think Springer singed because he got offered 6/150 not because the Front office did anything spectacular to sway his decision.

Also nonsense, I said of the Jays dont get Springer, they would need to get someone like bauer...learn to read. Please post all months of posts you are talking about?

As good as the Jays lineup looks it is predominantly RHed with Tellez and Biggo being the only LH bats. Brantley would really make the Jays one of the best lineups. Selling high on Gurriel for a pitcher or 3rd baseman might be a good idea.

I'd love Brantley on a 2/25 deal.

No need to be attacking one another. And discussing the value of a FA signing or who got the edge in a trade shortly after it happens is a BJMB tradition. There is nothing that says we have to be rah rah for a few days first.

You must be on one hell of a bender, because that was on January 18th. It's on page 18. f*** your sensitive. Happy Springer day. Good day sir.

It would be interesting to see if we have to give Brantley the extra year, or the extra $$ to get him to TO. This is his age 34 season. 3 years seems risky and 4 years would be scary. Does Springer allow us to get him on a 2 year deal? He's a 3.5-4 WAR player over the past 3 years.

lol... even today while the rumours were flying he said he's not signing here. f***ing dolt... *thirsty cats drinking tap water have the diabeeteez*

I think I'd be okay with something like 3/40. I don't think I'd want to go higher. 15, 15, 10 or something like that.

Lick my balls, one post is not equal all month, nor was it a doom post. You and your hay stalker friend can F off.

Gentleman, there is no fighting allowed in here, this is the War room!

It's a tightrope, first need to sign Brantley to a reasonable deal, term and moneywise, and at the same time get value in trade for one of the incumbent OFs. Or at the end of the day, dump Grichuk for peanuts.
