There's tax considerations and geography that probably contributed to it as well as not wanting to go back and forth over a few million.

I think NY tax is pretty similar to Ontario's. Plus if they play in Dunedin this year he would actually save a lot of $ in taxes. Yeah I mean who knows how the negotiations went down. If the Jays offered $135 does it get it done? I guess you don't want to piss the player off $3 Million per year trying to get too cute.

I get it..

Yeah you can lose a deal by trying to get too cute and perfect. If they offer 135 maybe Springer sits on it and tries to get other teams involved...

6/135 doesn’t get it done

6/150 gets it done

This is so much more satisfying than the 2015/2016 version of the team. They're poised to be a powerhouse, but did it while maintaining an absolutely loaded farm and salary flexibility.

omg

I don't really get that (Brantley signing), but none of us have any reason to doubt the front office right now.

Our collective years-long faith in Shapiro to spend money on a good fit when the time is right has finally been rewarded.

OMG - so many people kept going on and on and on and on about how Shapiro only dumpster dives and they don't know how to run a large market team. Like because they came from a small market team (which they built up very well) that they were only capable of running a team one way. This should FINALLY shut them all the f*** up. They told us they would spend when the time was right and now they have. Everyone should have a very high level of faith in this FO.

This guy has a valid concern...

lol... this tweet wins the internet!

God Damn I'm so happy!

omg

I wonder what they're contemplating, but one of Gurriel, Teoscar or Grichuk has to go in this case. God I hope Shatkins pulls off some magic and unloads Grichuk somewhere.

If Brantley is part of a package deal, there are more moves coming. Gray? Taillon?

Something like this... The team still needs more pitching regardless of Springer and we also get Brantley.. We have no use for Grichuk anymore..

on 125 it's a little over 1.5 mil the difference between NYC and Toronto. If we play half our games in Florida though he'll save 800K just on this year's 25 mil vs the tax he would play in NYC.

It would have to be Grichuk, a top prospect like a Manoah, and a lower level prospect to get a mid rotation starter.

But damn, it leaves a lineup like this:

Bichette

Biggio

Springer

Vlad

Teoscar

Gurriel

Brantley

Tellez

Jansen/Kirk

Remember TULO? Contracts are a thing.

But we're not the ones that signed Tulo. Just need to find a sucker like we were in 2015 to move Springer to should it come to that.

If the Jays sign Brantley, put Vlad at 3B and Tellez at 1B, then we are potentially looking at a lineup with:

Springer, Brantley, Bo, Vlad, Biggio, Hernandez, Gurriel, Tellez, and Jansen/Kirk....assuming Grichuk is the one that is moved.

I'm sure Montoyo will find a way to have Jansen bat 3rd and Brantley 8th, but hard to mess up that lineup.

The goal of the off season was run prevention via improved D and pitching. Putting Vlad at 3b is 100% contrary to that objective.

Figured it would take 6/150 to become a Blue Jay.

Great job from the FO. Patience and persistence. Yeehaw boys we got our guy - I want a permaban on any dummy arguing Rogers is too cheap or that nobody wants to play in Canada.

Hahaha... drop the hammer, I thought 6/135 would get it done but 6/150 was thrown around a lot, Springer's a f***ing Jay! WooHooooo!!!!
