If Brantley is part of a package deal, there are more moves coming. Gray? Taillon?

Gray for Teoscar maybe (if we're comfortable that his shoulder is 100%)? Could we even be in on Arenado? He can opt out after this season, and probably won't want to sit through a Rockies rebuild.

Something like this... The team still needs more pitching regardless of Springer and we also get Brantley.. We have no use for Grichuk anymore..

I would love to move Grichuk. He's really not a bad player. The market for that type of player has dropped. He's worth more than Grossman. Maybe a team like the Royals who are making some moves to improve might take him on if we ate 3 or 3.5 mil a year. 3 and 20.5 doesn't seem outrageous for Grichuk. All we would back would be some soda for the vending machine.

It would have to be Grichuk, a top prospect like a Manoah, and a lower level prospect to get a mid rotation starter.

But damn, it leaves a lineup like this:

Bichette

Biggio

Springer

Vlad

Teoscar

Gurriel

Brantley

Tellez

Jansen/Kirk

I'd rather deal Lourdes or Teo in a deal for a good starter than pay someone to take Grichuk. It's not like we should be desperate to get rid of a guy that projects to top 30 HR in the bottom third of our lineup.

No way Vlad should see clean up until he shows he can elevate the ball more consistently. I would go..

Teoscar

Vladdy

I mean lets be honest as soon as the Jays offered that 6th year and total guarantee of $150M thats what signed him. The jays had to overpay and its not like FO pulled off a coup by getting him to sign. Money talks and the Jays offered by far the biggest deal.

So you don't like the signing? Why slag the FO, I don't get this take?

Hahaha... drop the hammer, I thought 6/135 would get it done but 6/150 was thrown around a lot, Springer's a f***ing Jay! WooHooooo!!!!

f*** ya Spanky

The goal of the off season was run prevention via improved D and pitching. Putting Vlad at 3b is 100% contrary to that objective.

The goal of the offseason was to improve the team. If the best roster construction includes Vladdy at 3rd, then you do it. Also, Chuckles is absolutely going to put Vladdy in at 3B a bunch of times, and he'll only stop doing that about 6 months after it was obvious to everyone that he shouldn't do that.

Grichuk is a very good 4th OFer on a good baseball team. We're now a good baseball team. I'm perfectly fine with him eating up the 500 PA's that the 4th OFer typically gets.

If they are going to sign Brantley, they probably have something up their sleeve for Teo or Gurriel - or zero faith in Tellez.

Professional front offices use metrics to determine how to improve the team. Those were not my words, they came from our FO and I agree 100%. You don't want to take one step fwd and two steps back. The 2015 team was something like plus 125 runs scored at the All Star break, but two games under 500. You need run prevention and D to win and win in the playoffs, not just offense. IMO putting Vlad at 3b would be a horrible move contrary to every KPI and objective for this team.

I didn't take it as him not liking the signing, but as just being a little disappointed that Toronto is permanently in the position of having to overpay due to it being in Canada. He's saving his FO reach around for the guys that get FAs to sign here for the same price as it would take anywhere else.

That'll never happen though.

Has Stroman weighed in yet. I would like to know his thoughts.

I wouldn't expect a peep out of Marcus Stroman on this. Praising the current front office would likely be a fate worse than death for a vindictive little prick like Stroman.

He is just butt hurt this FO would not give him a five year contract.

Remember going to the ALCS in back to back seasons?

Sure, doesn't change the fact the last few years of Springer will likely be old Pujols like.

Skinny Vlad might surprise us at third base.

Springer putting in that work already.

Jays must have a trade in place if they get Springer... *drools*

There's tax considerations and geography that probably contributed to it as well as not wanting to go back and forth over a few million.

This, especially the geography element.

I don't think so. Springer at least projects to maintain a decent level of athleticism compared to Pujols.
