AA avoiding Bobcat's question about if he would've had the same amount of autonomy under Shapiro.

Ok, so they were 50-51 and badly under performing. So saying AT BEST they were a 500 (true talent) team is laughable. McCown is a clown.

not news

Next question was "if Paul Beeston was still the president of the blue Jays in 2016, would Alex still be the vp of baseballops/gm?"

Complete dodge of that question too

Posted

He didn't want to get into "hypotheticals".

Bobcat asking some pretty good questions. Definitely respect AA wanting to keep tight lips.

It's still going on.

Most recent comment was he would have had no hesitation in keeping Gibbons on as manager. No comment on whether he thinks gibby's job is in jeopardy now.

Decided to listen to McCown. Says they were "at best a 500 team at the deadline" lol

They were probably 500 at WORST. They had a pythW-L% of .588

Pythag is for suckers, the Jays were not as good as their run differential. Their baseruns suggested that they were only a slightly better team than their actual record.

Make no mistake about it, the odds of the Jays going on teh kind of run they did were very low. The fact that it worked out should not be used to justify AA's gambles.

Anybody got Coles notes of AA interview?

McCown: Would you still be working for the Toronto Blue Jays if Paul Beeston is still president?

AA: Bob, I can't say enough about this team and organization. I love it here, and unfortunately the situation didn't work for me.

McCown: Were you offered the same authority and autonomy in the GM position with this contract?

AA: Bob, I can't say enough about this team and organization. I love it here, and unfortunately the situation didn't work for me.

I've never seen three months shift the opinion of a man quite like it has AA.

If this had happened in July of 2013, 2014, or 2015, I'm excited and ready for a new regime. Instead, I'm somewhat curious if this is the right move. Although I must admit, the more Alex speaks on this topic, the more I recognize he may just be a greedy bastard.

Bob at least asked some good questions, much better than Tim & Sid. I enjoyed listening to the interview. Wish AA the best of luck in his future!

That still puts them at a 101 win team.

At the deadline. Jays were underperforming. Yanks were overperforming.

Seemed like a prefect fine spot to make some trades. Tulo and Revere were not only for 2015. The only one that was really "taking a shot" or a risk was the Price trade.

I tend to agree. Some young GM's would have never recovered after the Mets/Dickey fiasco. Alex made a shrewd and calculated move.

Trading places: Dan Jennings would be a perfect fit with the #Bluejays as GM; and Alex Anthopoulos would be natural with the #Marlins

Some of these guys just have no idea do they..?

Bob McCown is a hockey fan who talks on the local sports radio station the Fan 590. He's in over his head talking about baseball unless he has some inside knowledge of what's going on at Rogers.

I though you were talking about Dustin McGowan and his new talk show with Dirk Hayhurst

sort of weird timing with the fish ... u start the day with no GM openings in the league; then the AL exec of the year is a FA and now you have an opening ....

Did he say the talent was that of a .500 team or the performance was a .500 team?

Marlins owner used to be with the Expos?

yeah Loria was owner of the Expos '98 to '02; same time that AA was there but not sure whether they actually had interactions...

Hilarious.

#1 - It's McCown.

#2 - He's always bashing the puckheads constantly talking about hockey.

#3 - Baseball is his passion

#4 - He's an old schooler that isn't into analytics of any kind (for any sport)...and that's not why anyone listens to him. The business of sports is his thing and he's very knowledgeable. The banter with the other guests/co-hosts is always good for a chuckle. He's a pretty intelligent guy.

If you're looking for fancy stats and analytics you shouldn't be listening to Bob McCown. Maybe Dustin McGowan.

Yes, unfortunately, he was. And he was a complete douchebag even back then. Loria gets a little too much blame for the Expos leaving compared to the MLB and the then-miserly Montreal business community, but he was not a good owner at all.
