I recall a recent update from one of the MLB insiders stating that none of the MLB teams viewed Bo as a short stop moving forward. Given the absolutely awful state of second base across the league outside of a few (Jazz, Marte, Turang) one would have to believe there is some money to be made as a great hitting 2B as well.

Gimenez had to move to short and played so well you want to keep him here. Bo can see that as well as anyone can from down in the 3B dugout. If he's a team player at all he realizes the best thing right now has him as DH or 2B if his leg allows him to play defense. ...... or Devers Boston issues

Yeah I think Bo can earn a really nice contract as a second baseman. I think the Semien deal with an extra year or two tacked on due to Bo's younger age could act as a bit of a template.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 Bo would likely be above average defensively at 2B His issue at SS was mostly arm strength and accuracy. Much less of an issue at 2B
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 Loving hearing Bo say his goal is to play his entire career in Toronto. Don't think I've ever heard of him saying something like that before. If he signs for around $25 million AAV and moves to 2B, this team is set up for a really nice potential multi year run. It cost them multiple runs. OK. But the fact Suarez's flyballs go farther then Ernie Clement's gained them 5 runs and a win in game 5. Suarez also "saved" 2 runs diving to get a 116 mph missile in game 6 So we give +5 runs in game five. +2 in game 6 for 7. So hypothetically if -8 for the rest of the plays in the series, he's only maybe -1 over all. Not that it works like that. Just pointing out it's silly to claim these guys are costing multiple runs in a short series. Or if true because random chance had them dealing with tough plays at critical moments, that's just chance, and you could also say they "gain" multiple runs if their hitting by random chance comes through at a critical moment. Did you watch game 5? Did you see how Ernie Clement's inferior man strength cost some runs when his fly ball was caught at the top of the fence, but Suarez gained 4 runs because he was strong enough to muscle it over?

It cost them multiple runs. Not sure I'll get anywhere with Grant but one thing I wonder is why do the LA Dodgers not get a bit of hate along the same line? They are the type of team I really hate to watch. 1. Max Muncy has less defense and less fWAR than Suarez 2. Teoscar Hernandez is a horrible defensive player and strikes out a remarkable amount 3. Shohei Ohtani strikes out as much as anyone and just hits homeruns and doesn't even play defense. Plus he is a gambler who sent his best friend to Jail and never gave back the jacket we gave his dog. 4. They struck out like 300 more times than the Jays and according to fangraphs are also bad overall on D 5. They were 6th worse in the NL with 1350 strike-outs. Not as bad as the 5th worse in the AL Seattle Mariners. So I will give you this. The LA Dodgers, they are not as bad as the historically awful Seattle Mariners, the worst team to ever reach the ALCS. But they have a couple of similar traits. So why are they such heavy favourites in the World Series if kind of "Seattle Mariners" lite? Spanky__99 1

That is nuts Yeah he was 17th overall in catcher WAR. It had me sort of contemplating whether he'd draw interest this off season. The FA market for catchers is terrible and Heineman is probably at least low end starting catcher caliber if his great defense holds up to a much larger sample - even if the bat completely falls off. Given that there's always a shortage of quality catchers, I would be surprised if we didn't at least have some calls on Heineman. That's not to say he would return enough value to justify moving him. He surely has more value to a team who doesn't have a Kirk (or anything close) but probably not enough to bother creating a void. We do have a very possible future back up in the recently acquired Valenzuela, but it's likely best to give him some MLB time to prove himself defensively before making that call. L54 1
