Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I do not believe projections account for body shape either. I wish Terminator was another team's GM so that he can overpay for Kirk. Based on these projections, we should be able to land Corbin Carroll easily using Kirk. Arizona might need to add more. Lol this is rich coming from a guy who said extending Jansen would make him one of the most valuable assets in baseball. Dude projects for 2.5 WAR.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Lol this is rich coming from a guy who said extending Jansen would make him one of the most valuable assets in baseball. Dude projects for 2.5 WAR. Yea. Projections are the bible based on your way of thinking. Let's go with them. Kirk for Carroll and Lawlar. Get it done Shatkins.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Yeah the weight/body thing for Kirk probably isn’t a problem until he’s already a free agent. He’s slow as f*** but it is what it is. My question is can he play C more often and DH less. Because I believe we’ll need that DH spot to keep guys like Springer/Teo/Lourdes/Vlad/etc in the lineup like we did in 2022 Yeah He only caught 80 games last year so it would be nice to see that bumped up a bit to get the other guys more rest.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Yeah He only caught 80 games last year so it would be nice to see that bumped up a bit to get the other guys more rest. I can't see why not fellas, as long as he's here, it's easily doable.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 If they are both here Jansen should be the primary DH. Injury prone and not as good of a framer.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) Yeah He only caught 80 games last year so it would be nice to see that bumped up a bit to get the other guys more rest. Not sure this works though. If you keep Kirk and Moreno, you can't have Kirk catching 100-120 games and play Moreno as a backup (assuming we use the DH spot for Springer/Vlad/Teo/etc.). Can't have Moreno playing only 60-80 games a year (I'm assuming he'd catch 40-60 games and DH a bit). I think either way - you're planning to have 1 of our catchers occupy the DH spot on a regular basis to maximize their value to this team. Edited November 8, 2022 by Brownie19
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 If they are both here Jansen should be the primary DH. Injury prone and not as good of a framer. Maybe. But the front office seemed hesitant to use Kirk as the primary catcher even when Jansen was injured last season. He never caught more than 3-4 times per week
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Maybe. But the front office seemed hesitant to use Kirk as the primary catcher even when Jansen was injured last season. He never caught more than 3-4 times per week This is true. Hard to know if they did that because he was a rookie and they didn't want to wear him down (as the 162 game schedule is hard on most/all rookies) or was it because they don't think he can handle it because he's thicker than a bowl of oatmeal.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 News tidbit on Big Nate... Nate Pearson Once upon a time Nate Pearson was one of baseball’s top prospects reaching as high as the seventh best prospect across all of Major League Baseball by Baseball America back in early 2020. Unfortunately for the former first round pick, Pearson has suffered numerous injuries over the past couple of seasons and threw just 15.1 innings this past season. To catch up on some work, Pearson has gone to play in the Dominican Winter League for the Tigres del Licey and has pitched in a relief role appearing in five of the team’s first ten games. The now 25-year old has been unhittable as he tossed five hitless and scoreless innings, allowing just one walk while striking out five. Hopefully Pearson can keep building confidence and jump back on to the 26-man roster for the 2023 season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 News tidbit on Big Nate... Expecting some kind of injury in spring training.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Yea. Projections are the bible based on your way of thinking. Let's go with them. Kirk for Carroll and Lawlar. Get it done Shatkins. Well when Steamer is projecting a guy to be a full 2 WAR better than the other, it's probably worth paying attention to. You aren't smarter than Steamer my friend.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Expecting some kind of injury in spring training. Imagine Danny Jansen catching Nate Pearson? What would the over/under be on how many innings before an injury occured?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Reputable Jays insider reporting that Jansen is the MOST likely to be dealt and Kirk is the LEAST likely. Read it and weep Jansen fanboys.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I can't wait until the Catcher situation gets resolved, the cringe is non-stop.

Read it and weep Jansen fanboys. Nobody has argued otherwise People have opinions why they would keep player x over player y This isn’t the W you think it is

Read it and weep Jansen fanboys. I don't think anyone is going to disagree with that. Bottom line is the C traded should be the one that increases the value of the team the most.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 It’s wild the Jays have 3 catchers in the top 10 ish in projected wRC+

Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Well when Steamer is projecting a guy to be a full 2 WAR better than the other, it's probably worth paying attention to. You aren't smarter than Steamer my friend. But I actually am smarter than streamer. I expected Jansen to outperform Streamer in 2022 and he definitely did. Here another prediction, Jansen will outperform the projections you posted. Kirk will not.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 But I actually am smarter than streamer. I expected Jansen to outperform Streamer in 2022 and he definitely did. Here another prediction, Jansen will outperform the projections you posted. Kirk will not. Well maybe so but even if Kirk underperforms and Jansen overperforms, Kirk could STILL outproduce Jansen by 1.5 WAR. Like I said before, the difference in talent between Kirk and Jansen is greater than the difference in talent between silver slugger Teoscar Hernandez and a replacement level player. That's how much better 23 year old All-Star Alejandro Kirk is than oft-injured Danny "Mr. Magoo" Jansen.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Ok I'm sorry I'll stop. I've been fighting this uneducated horde of Jansen fanboys from taking over the board (basically single handedly because a lot of cowards around here won't help) because this place needs to be the most valuable source of Blue Jays baseball opinions on the internet. I think it's clear I've won the debate about a x1000 over so I'll stop. StankyLeg and CaptainDoofus can have the last word if they like.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I almost want to see Kirk traded at this point just to see a full fledged meltdown
