Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 If the Jays aren't going to put Sanchez in the rotation they should trade him because its obvious he has a good amount of value to other teams. Rockies should try to trade for him. Your thoughts on a fair return?

Rockies should try to trade for him. that's where this all started with this supposed "hive". Many of us just said that all things remaining the same (no one ever said things couldn't change), Sanchez value in trade far exceeds his value as a starter for this team. That became a "everyone hates Sanchez" from enough posters that it became a different issue. Marlins love low K, high GB pitchers.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Your thoughts on a fair return? Higher than Brandon Finnegan (which is tough to figure out as Finnegan got traded with two other nice pieces for Cueto). Not saying they have the need to trade him right now either.

It seems most of the board even the very anayltic crowd would be fine with starting Sanchez. Even if a trade seems like the smartest thing to do value wise I doubt the FO will actually do it unless it was like a Shelby Miller you can't refuse trade.

This Cinderella dream of a Stroman, Hoffmann, Norris, Sanchez, Hutch rotation come 2017 needs to be put to rest, IMO. Prospects bust. All the time. What AA needs to do is identify which ones he thinks will bust, and trade them at peak value. Exhibit 1: Aaron Sanchez As far as I'm concerned, Norris has already passed him. I have little faith in Sanchez and honestly expect him to be a major bust. You can't walk 5.5/9IP in AA and think this won't end in disaster. The stuff is amazing, the control negates all of that and more. Really wish AA had given the Mets Sanchez instead of Syndergaard. Dude gunny bust. "Sanchez faces six hitters, five of whom hit very hard line drives. Gives up a run on four hits. 18p/12 strikes." Three-way deal soon Jays - Franklin + Wood Cubs - Aaron "Bust" Sanchez + Hultzen + Pillar M's - Samardzija + Santos
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 The hive posters saying to trade Sanchez last year were saying 'trade him before he loses all his value'
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 At that point, Sanchez' perceived value exceeded his actual value and I advocated that he was most valuable in a trade to the Blue Jays.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 It's so easy to cheer against Sanchez when guys like Jimcanuck exist.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Funny that Sanchez is more valuable than Norris right now. Who would have guessed that coming into 2015.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 When you are wrong, just man up and admit it. What am I wrong about? My opinion? Color me skeptical that a few good spring training outings make Sanchez some type of all star. I was wrong about Pillar, and I thought Goins would forever suck. I'll admit when I'm wrong, but Sanchez hasn't done anything worth writing home about yet.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 It's so easy to cheer against Sanchez when guys like Jimcanuck exist. that's the thing...i don't understand how you cheer against a blue jay player because of what some internet poster says. I didn't think Pillar would amount to anything, but I always cheered for him. When Thole's up to bat, I don't hope he strikes out.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 You're obviously a superior fan than I.

Won't happen of course but I cheer for all of them to be good My only beef is when underperforming players are left in for too many games when there's nothing to suggest they're ever going to get better (see Arencibia, JP)
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) bring on the season already... Edited March 26, 2016 by Brownie19
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I said his splits were worse than average... Which is true. League average OPS: 1st time: .678 2nd time: .708 3rd time: .751 Gavin Floyd 1st time: .679 2nd time: .732 3rd time: .803 Is this his career stats against league average yearly stats, very interesting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Scout should legitimately be fired Maybe that scout was David Price, he's said that Sanchez has more upside than the entire rotation save for Stroman.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Some pegged him a bust a little over a year ago. Key word bro. Stop painting with a wide brush, it's getting old. Plus those examples are horribad, shame on you.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Is this his career stats against league average yearly stats, very interesting. Yeah thats Floyd's career numbers around 1500 PA for each so quite a large sample. League average was taken in 2012 I believe. Found the numbers in a FG article.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I know what Gibby is saying I really think Sanchez should be given a couple of months as a starter to start the season. I also think this is what they'll do. And I think it will work out OK.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 ********. That's just a justification to start him over Floyd or Hutchison.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Is Sanchez allergic to AAA, or something? They are demoting a pitcher with a much better track record (Hutch) and no one gives two shits. Why can't they just do the same for Sanchez and just say "he'll be up soon but we don't want to limit him in the pen and would rather he stretch out in the minors in case of need"?

I'll admit when I'm wrong, but Sanchez hasn't done anything worth writing home about yet. So apparently pillar and goins HAVE done something to write home about but Sanchez hasn't? Have you not seen Aaron's splits in the bullpen over the past two seasons? His numbers are borderline spectacular and speak volumes about his value to this team as a reliever at the very least. I mean, look at these numbers man and talk some more about......pffffft, never mind. Just borderline ridiculous. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=sanchaa01&year=&t=p And ERA has some relevance when you combine it with a WHIP of 1.5 and watched how wickedly hard he got hit a LOT of the time. I mean an ERA over 5.5 with a WHIP of 1.5? That's the kind of success I want to see out of one of my starters!!!! His lack of fastball command helped those numbers get to where they were and a lack of any movement whatsoever led it getting beat like a red headed step child. Sanchez showed a wicked lack of control but was able to keep his numbers respectable because of both velocity and movement and the PROOF of that is in his bullpen numbers. I preached about goins and his stellar defense for ages and just about everyone hee hawed about what garbage he was. When all we NEEDED him for was his D. We didn;t depend on him for and ounce of offense no matter how painful it was to watch him hit. Fact was he turned double plays like a beast and saved the team runs with his Defense. Stopped momentum with his defense. My point is that if we have something in Sanchez, which I'm positive we do, let him learn on the job at this level. He's had the MLB experience, lets see what he can do with it. Jesus, I remember when Stroman was on his way and people were oh so positive that he was to small and that he had some sort of attitude. Put your cakeholes to rest and watch him either prove you wrong or fall on his face. I think there is zero chance he fails Edited March 27, 2016 by 93 Jays
