You know, trading Sanchez for that no good complainer Chris Sale would solve this entire argument.

and kill the clubhouse chemistry???

There's a real argument that to maximize value - you let Floyd start and use up whatever bullets he has left. Sanchez builds on the spring success in AAA (as most of his success this spring has been vs. minor leaguers) and comes up when Floyd's arm falls off. If you waste Floyd's bullets in the 6th inning and/or if he's unable to be stretched out later on - you're losing an asset you'll need this year (ie, starting pitching....need 8-10).

Can we stop with this crap that Floyd only has "x" amount of pitches left in his arm. Its not like come May he's going to suddenly get hurt so we "should better start him now" instead of in the pen.

You talk about maximizing value well then its a no brainer to start Sanchez. Floyd is a FA at the end of the season meanwhile Sanchez has 5 years of control. If Sanchez starts and shows he can be a #3/4 starter that has way more value to the Blue Jays than Floyd doing the same.

How can you argue that getting the same production out of Floyd is somehow less valuable than getting it out of Sanchez? Some of your posts are just mind numbing.

What are you talking about? Say Sanchez or Floyd were to get 3 WAR as a SP this year. Obviously its more valuable Sanchez provides that since you have him for another 4 years after that, while Floyd is a FA at the end of the year.

And how much value does Floyd get you out of the pen vs Sanchez?

Possibly even more than Sanchez if that pitch arsenal plays up like Blanton's did last year. He also has a 95 mph fastball as a starter so it could increase a bit in the pen. He's also thrown far less innings than Sanchez the past few years so he may contribute for longer in the pen.

Probably close enough to make it worthwhile. I think Floyd would be a great reliever, might even be a better fit since he can get more swing and misses. He's also been really good the 1st time through the order compared to the 2nd and 3rd. Much more dramatic splits than an average pitcher.

In his career:

1st time through the order OPS+ 83

2nd time OPS+ 97

3rd time OPS+116

Pitchers always get worse the third time around. Lmao you're not proving anything. This happens to literally every pitcher.

I said his splits were worse than average... Which is true.

League average OPS:

1st time: .678

2nd time: .708

3rd time: .751

Gavin Floyd

1st time: .679

2nd time: .732

3rd time: .803

Teams that could plausibly be true for:

Phillies

Orioles

Brewers

Royals

Twins

Barves

Rockies

And most of those are a stretch.

B-Ref is tracking Spring opponent quality on a very low level way (10 being MLB, 8 AAA, 7 AA, 5 HiA, 4 full season A, 1.5 to 3 short season, 1 pitcher

Sanchez 8.3

Floyd 7.7

So, based on that, Sanchez has faced more difficult competition than Floyd this spring and put up better numbers?

Just thought I'd throw a little fuel on this fire.

Good read. Who's that guy?

I thought it was incomplete, but certainly better than most from Sportsnet.

People in baseball higher on Sanchez than the BJMB hive.... figures.

You say that like we aren't people in baseball. What is Kenny Ken's experience in comparison to mine?
