I hope AA has learned the lesson here concerning the depth of the roster... He covered most of the areas well at the deadline but he did overlook the depth of LHP's in the pen by having too much faith in Cecil to remain healthy rest of the way and hoping that Loup somehow comes around after a bad start. Of course this current Loup situation isn't anyone's fault but even if he pitched he wouldn't exactly have been reliable to anyone's eyes outside a LOOGY situation anyway.

One of Hawkins/Lowe at the deadline should have been a lefty instead... Maybe we should have kept around Phil Coke, lol.

Well AA could have held on to both Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris (both LHPs and both capable of going multiple innings, the two things the Jays need the most) but then you wouldn't have Price. It was a dammned if you, dammned if you don't kind of scenario. You always want to strengthen the front line first so it was the right decision but it did have a depth decimation downside which has been really exacerbated by the implosions of Hutch, Buehrle and Hawkins.

This whole thing with Loup is so frustrating. If his family issues are this serious he should not have been kept on the roster. Having Hutch for a blowout game like last night would've been huge.

I think Francis might have made the team over Hutch but you're point still stands either way.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Even if he's around, one has to wonder if his mental focus/state would be there right now to pitch for us in key playoff situations. Bad roster management IMO. I honestly would have rather picked Jeff Francis over Tepera for the lefty depth, his lefty splits were actually not too bad from what I've heard, plus he has a lot of major league experience at least, so I have no idea why he wasn't given a shot.

The situation with Loup was really compounded by the fact that the team absolutely punted Cecil's spot by going with Tepera. What's the point of a short man who isn't any good? Better a mop-up guy than that.

Like BTS said, you need to use an arm like Lowe or Sanchez in that situation with the bases loaded to get the strikeout since they give you the best chance in getting one.

This isn't a regular season game, it's the postseason. It's inexcusable using Tepera in that situation.

Well let's use hindsight since people love it with bullpen moves. The Jays didn't score another run, so no matter who they brought in they would've lost. At least now they have Sanchez available for tomorrow if they're in a better position.

I don't get at all why he used Lowe in the 9th though, that was absolutely retarded.

It wasn't a blowout game until gibbons conceded it to be one.

Agreed on the Loup point.

Are we actually thinking of using Price out of the bullpen and not using him as our game 6 starter? That would be very unbelievable to me. Please tell me I misheard something. Would that mean Dickey in game 7?

Do you think Cubs fans are calling for Joe Maddon's firing after getting swept? Imagine if the Jays had done that.

No one has said that.

If you did hear it...it was from the same people that are complaining that the lead characters in Star Wars Episode 7 are a woman and a black dude.

Look, I am not saying its wrong. I am just saying he doesn't respect the force. He'll likely lightsaber-flip after each time he defeats a clone. Its not the message we want to send to the padawans.

Taking into consideration the manager position in baseball is a bit of a grey area in relation to W's & L's. Being that this is the first time around for many of the players, i dont think gibbons is doing enough to convey a sense of urgency on the team. And that's why you only see their best effort in do or die games. Since the final week of the season, there has been a lackadaisical aura about this team. Keeping it loose is one thing, during the season. But there comes a time where a coach has to motivate his players. And i dont see Gibbons giving the Any Given Sunday speach.

I hear Mattingly is available.

I wouldn't mind having him as manager. He'll probably demand a huge salary though, not really worth it.

He's one of the worst tactitians in baseball and since that seems to be the main beef people (legitimately) have with Gibbons, it would be like going from the frying pan into the fire. Pretty sure that's why JH brought him up in the first place. Not as a serious suggestion but as a joke for those familiar with his managing.

Frying pan into fire....only a more expensive fire. Rather have Gibby warts and all. Pass.

Talking about expensive and a pipe dream for that matter, I was thinking of Joe Torre. It started with Gibby mentioning that Torre had texted him when they were down 0-2 going to KC and then later when they were at BP in KC, Torre actually came back and chatted it up with Gibby. Gibby doesn't look like the type of person that would name drop but I thought that was cool...

anyways back to our regular scheduled programming... reality

Joe Torre is a dinosaur. He get undeserved credit for being a minor part in a great dynasty.

Bottom of the 8th in elimination game and no one is warm.

We got out of it with 1 run. How Gibby is to blame for Osunas flat fastballs is beyond me.

He's not. He's to blame because he wasn't prepared to pull him.

Why on earth at that time can't you have two guys in the pen just throwing and getting loose just in case?

1 run....1 f***ing run, bunt the freaking ball and we score. That was the definition why Gibby is the worst manager in the history of baseball!!!!!

What bunt are you talking about? Goins early on in the AB he took the first strike and fouled the 2nd?

You wanted a safety squeeze with Revere?

Cause in the end we had the guy(s) exactly where we needed to have them with no outs. We just needs fly ball or hard contact with IF in.

baseball is always easier in your mind than it is in reality....sure we should have just ran the suicide squeeze...easy peasy....tie game.

One thing you can say about gibby....he's got to be a guy you'd enjoy having a beer with...Gibby is a good dude regardless of whether you think he's a good manage
