Hayhurst responded Arencibia's comments while co-hosting "Baseball Central" on Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday morning.

"I think he has every right to feel the way he does and he had every right to voice his opinion on critics," said Hayhurst. "He's had a really rough year. … Our job as analysts is to look at some of the negative stuff. And you look at the play that JP Arencibia has had this year and there's been a lot of negative things to discuss. "I think he's struggling right now as a player. … I think it reflects in his stats. I don't think you can survive in the big leagues and not understand that when you play bad, you're going to draw criticism. When you play good, you're going to get a lot of praise for it. That's the nature of the beast up here.

"I feel bad for the guy. I think that he's going through a real hard stretch right now."

Hayhurst said he was hopeful that Arencibia, who has batted .216 with 15 homers and 38 RBIs in 75 games, would have a better second half.

"I respect his opinion and his return criticism," said Hayhurst. "I don't think it's completely fair, some of the things he said. But I can take it. I'm fine with it. I hope he feels better about it now and I hope he goes on and he has a more productive season."

If he simply stated that he was giving it his all and told people to stop slamming him every day thats one thing, but to go out of your way and promote this myth that no one outside the game knows what theyre talking about is beyond dumb. Zaun wasnt an all star here but he was at least roughly league average..which is a lot more than JP will ever be

Yeah, his normal go to move has been that his critics haven't played the game

Now for Hayhust and Zaun he went with the rebuttal of "How dare such scrubs critize me!"

What I thought he would do, have a clever comment. Won't get hate from JP because it was subtle, but basically told him that he's still s*** lol

Came from the pre-game scrum apparently. Wilner tweeted something to the effect.

I don't believe it then, he's probably trying his best to prevent a blowup by making s*** up

I bet Rogers told Zaun and Hayhurst to shut up and let it go. Looks bad on the company.

I doubt Zaun lets it go. lol
