JaysRap Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 So I'm driving into work this morning and at 8:45AM JP is on with Joey Vendetta and Jim Lang on The Fan. He's on to talk about a charity he's doing and the upcoming Jays Care Foundation golf tournament. Anyways, Lang says to JP that you have something to say...and JP proceeds to say (in summary - as soon as audio is in I'll post a link) * Nobody in the Jays clubhouse (JP says he's speaking on behalf of the team) have any respect for those guys * JP says that with Zaun that nobody has respect for a guy who was using performance enhancing drugs * JP then goes onto say that Dirk had "below average tools for a major leauge player" and that he essentially tried to help the guy when he was in AAA as his catcher * He also says that the criticism is too harsh and that they make it seem like the game is easy to do * Feels bad that the fans have to listen to them Depending on what time you're reading this Jeff Blair will have Jerry Howarth on soon for 1 hour and they'll be taking calls. And since this just happened you'll also wanna check out Baseball Today and hear from Dirk Hayhurst response. I'm also guessing that Zaunie will be on the Fan later today for his own reaction (and maybe pre-game before tonight's Tigers/Jays game too). WOW.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Zaun's career slash line: .252/.344/.388/.732 Arencibia's career slash line: .220/.267/.430/.697 #Top10Catcher bro! Also, Zaun had a 16 year MLB career. Arencibia will be lucky to have 6 at this rate. Edit: Audio Link.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Oh wow oh wow Can't wait to hear this!!! And see the Twitter fallout.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 We/they were even forewarned!!! I had missed this:
JaysRap Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Alright boys it's posted on The Fan's front page (not surprisingly LOL) http://www.sportsnet.ca/590/ Start the audio at 5:30
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Remember when JPA was Zaun's "Padawan"?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Zaun's career slash line: .252/.344/.388/.732 Arencibia's career slash line: .220/.267/.430/.697 #Top10Catcher bro! Also, Zaun had a 16 year MLB career. Arencibia will be lucky to have 6 at this rate. Edit: Audio Link. More importantly, Zaun was a better catcher. And yet still hit as well or better by some metrics.
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 This is exactly why so many people don't like JP Arencibia. All he has proven so far is that he is an inadequate defender, an inadequate hitter, and a douchebag, who will occassionally hit a homerun. He needs to keep his big mouth shut.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Heh at JPA calling Zaun a "below average player in the major leagues". That's brilliant! Edit: JPA is high concept performance art, discuss.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 The team needs to ban Twitter. Seriously. It's doing more harm than good.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Ha, he's rambling on about how people who have played the game understand what's important... Like, y'know, Zaun and Hayhurst...
JaysRap Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 JP could be looking at a lawsuit from Zaun.
DwightDM Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Lol, JP basically says he was responsible for Hayhurst's cup of coffee with the Jays.
DwightDM Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 They need a muzzle for this idiot, I've never heard someone sound so stupid.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 This will not end well. Jay Stenhouse will not be happy.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 JPA has really, really shot himself in the foot here. He's got SO little goodwill already, and he just shovelled a LOT of it out the window.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 The sooner they get this blowhard off the team the better it will be.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Now, basically everyone from Joey Bats to the guy who does the laundry ("Nobody in the clubhouse respects these guys") has to come out and take JP's foot out of their mouth... There's going to be a lot of line walking between trying to support JPA, but disagreeing with the lack of respect for Zaun and Hayhurst. Also, "Nobody respects steroid users in the clubhouse...." Camera pans slowly to Melky...
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Was gonna say...wonder how Melky feels about these comments.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 "Speaking for myself AND FOR THE TEAM..." He literally said he was speaking for the whole team... I wonder how his team feels having a guy with an IQ of a warm bagel as their spokesman...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 OMG maybe this will be the thing that finally forces AA's hand and we acquire Yadier Molina in the off season. OK, I'll turn off my delusional brain now. Sorry.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 this was hilarious to listen to. They followed up by asking him how they should critique a bad baseball play.. to which he said "maybe they should say it wasn't a great baseball play and explain why..." he couldn't even give a proper answer. i've never heard someone so incoherent before.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I can't stand Zaun, but I can't recall him ever saying anything remotely unfair about Arencibia. Anything he's criticized has been patently obvious to anyone who follows the team.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 In all honesty I can't really place my finger on a team where JPA would even be in the majors, much less a starting catcher at the MLB level. What a tool
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 So unprofessional. You are in the PUBLIC EYE. You are an athlete that could potentially earn MILLIONS OF DOLLARS from the employer that he is basically indirectly bashing (Zaun and Hayhurst were hired by Rogers). Being able to handle criticism is one of the key components of being a successful professional athlete. This cannot be tolerated. The Jays need to delete JPA's twitter account ASAP and read him the riot act. And Zaun was actually a pretty good catcher. Pretty underrated IMO. He's a meathead but at least he KEEPS IT REAL This team is so poorly managed from top to bottom, it's just gettting ridiculous now. If he isn't disciplined for this then I don't know what to say.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 In all honesty I can't really place my finger on a team where JPA would even be in the majors, much less a starting catcher at the MLB level. What a tool There isn't one... Blair was just talking about how NESN and YES aren't as harsh on their players... There's no way the Yankees or the BoSox would run a guy like JPA out 4/5 games behind the plate.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 3 game suspension Book it And we win all 3 games LOL They need to fine him and suspend him. The inmates cannot run the asylum. Rasmus got all uppity in STL and boom he's gone. OOPS Cardinals win the WS. We all loved to hate on LaRussa and the Cards, but that org is beautifully run from top to bottom. Nobody is bigger than the team and, for the most part, they all buy in to the high standards that management expects.
