Would like Yesavage to more consistently be able to have the feel for his splitter (and develop the slider a bit more). Could see he was vulnerable when he lost feel for that pitch in the postseason. When he had it, he was dynamite of course.

I’d like his family to get more jays shirts, I’m sure we can afford it.  Every game he was in his dad and brothers were wearing the same clothes.  Possibly even unwashed.

Not really sure what to make of him. I think I’m just velocityist where I don’t love committing to a guy with a velocity decline throwing 92

Id rather bring try and get one of these Temu aces win at than Ranger Suarez. If unsuccessful just do like 2 years for Merrill Kelly as a stability play instead of 5 for Suarez

You know what I think would make sense in budget, going with Pendy's guy Ponce? So, resign Bo at 10/230 or 240M, Sign Ponce for 2/20M and Edwin Diaz 4/84... something like that.

Guys coming back from Asia have had success recently so could be a nice addition. I think they’ll land a bigger fish though, Jays are going to spend and someone will take their money. Cant imagine they lose out on all of Cease, Valdez, Suarez, Imai plus trade candidates

I would rather not spend on the bullpen. I would rather see a trade at the deadline to solidify it if they need to. I think there are enough good arms down there to start

A nice big power bat behind Vladdy might be a real good thing.  If Bo comes back and bats second then we have something.  Add a starter and a stopper and we have a contender.  I'm still not counting on Santander existing next season.

This is an oxymoron?!

Going to get tarred and feathered for this, but I might be coming around on Kyle Tucker.

  • His market might not be as hot as expected.
    • Passan says the Dodgers aren’t going to make a "massive financial splash".
    • The Yankees might prefer Bellinger since he plays CF.
    • The Mets won’t drop a billion on two outfielders.
    • Those are the only teams that can outbid us, we can hang with the rest.
  • Tucker might be better than we realize.
    • On pace for 8–9 WAR seasons the past two years before injuries hit.
    • You’re paying for a 5 WAR guy, but there’s upside for 6+.
  • If we’re making a splash, now’s the time.
    • The FA class next year SUCKS. Jizz Chisholm and Varsho are the two best position players.
    • After a WS appearance, it’s perfect timing.
  • He's a Florida guy
    • We couldn't sign a California guy if our lives depended on it (their wives usually put the kibosh to it)
    • Tucker and his wife are both from Tampa which is where our ST complex is.

I wouldn't dole out $400M for him, but if the tally comes in closer to $300M I'm in.

I think you're kidding yourself if you don't have Tucker as the best FA available. The defense isn't special but he's an excellent hitter and baserunner. Since 2021 (his first proper full season) he's 10th in the MLB in wRC+ and WAR. Left handed of course which allows us to slot him neatly either at second or fourth in the lineup while breaking up our righties. Doesn't strike out and walks a ton which fits our team philosophy to a tee, and yeah he also has a career .234 ISO.

Only real concern with him is he's not the most durable guy out there. If that limits his ceiling to only 4.5-5 WAR every year you can live with it, but you're of course paying a premium for that value if he doesn't have odd years where he's pushing 5.5-6+ wins.

With that said, you're likely not getting both Bo and Tucker, so you gotta make the decision that if you must have one, which one is easier for you to find internal options to make up for the value, while giving you financial flexibility of making other additions. Tucker increases our position on the win curve and balances our lineup, with Ernie likely then doing his best to replace Bo, but it might come at the cost of not allowing us to shop at the top of the pitching FA market. Keeping Bo, seeing if Barger develops further, and signing a top pitcher could be more viable potentially.

It's a fun thought exercise, and as long as they can get one of those guys without hampering them from further additions then we'll be in a good spot regardless.

I'd choose Tucker over Bo all things being equal, but there could be a significant ($100M+) difference in what they command on the market, so that has to be figured into the equation. The team's biggest need is a high end SP. As long as signing one of Tucker/Bo doesn't prevent them from shopping in the top end of the SP market, then either one is fine. Whatever makes more sense from a money/years standpoint. Tucker would be a perfect add to the lineup, though. A LHB who draws walks, puts in the ball in play, has good power, and is a very good base runner. Ideal fit for the #2 spot in the lineup, and it would allow Barger to play 3B regularly, which is probably a better value play for the Jays. Finding an OF is a lot easier than finding a 3B, and Clement isn't someone I'd pencil in as a long-term 3B.

Yeah, I think the ideal scenario is to retain Bo on a contract that doesn't seem too bad. Some kind of 7 year thing. And then add more.

Tucker is better but it's going to be a 10 year deal with a higher AAV, perhaps a much higher AAV in the post-Soto, post-Vlad, post-Ohtani contract landscape.

There is a scenario here where Tucker is a $350M+ contract and Bo doesn't even get $200M. I mean, multiple genius pundits don't even consider Bo to be a top 6 free agent.

So Bo might be both a market inefficiency and a chance at a little sweetheart deal.

I disagree. I think there is a chance whereby both Bo and Tucker can be signed. Springer is coming off the books after 2026 and perhaps you let Varsho walk after next season.  Again, some may think it is tar/feather time to let Varsho go but I would do for an elite batting lineup. Atkins has to be bold here and open up another 5-7 year window of possible championship level teams.

I know it's a stretch, but if they can somehow acquire Alcantara from the Cubs, he would be the perfect replacement for DV (assuming he's gone).

nope - just a moron 😁

What was the matter with my statement?  I'm simply stating that we need to replace Santander who, in my opinion, has to be dumped.

Olney says after talking to agents, everyone wants to come to Toronto now.  It is the #1 destination for all free agents.  That was a bit of an exaggeration but not really.

This is the year to take advantage.  Get Tucker and Bo and Imai.

Only lone wolf weirdos or massive ego main character types would watch our playoff atmosphere and clubhouse cohesion and not want to be apart of something like that.

Rough transition suggests he wants to compete against Yamamoto and not just join a super team.

Perfect. We want the DAWGS from Japan and not the guys riding coat tails

Who would play center field if Varsho were let go? That would open up the need for another external addition as I don't think there is anyone else suited for center field starting duties on the roster presently.

At some point you wonder if the Player's Union would step in and exert pressure on these guys to go to the highest bidder. They can't all keep leaving money on the table to sign with the Dodgers.

I think it makes the argument for an international draft stronger when that happens

I don’t like the idea of the union pressuring guys to do anything, if the market is free and fair then let guys do whatever they want. At some point the dodgers just won’t have room, frankly I don’t think they have room right now to sign Imai

Well we are talking 2027 at that point a lot could happen before then.

Imai + one of Tucker/Bo would be amazing. One benefit of Imai + Bo would be no loss of draft pick compensation. Although I'm not getting my hopes up on Imai or any top level Japanese player signing with the Jays until it actually happens. Bo or Tucker seems far more plausible. Hopefully Boss Atkins can work some magic with Imai. The double benefit of adding upside to the rotation and possibly creating a pipeline for more Japanese talent in the future.

It's very very unlikely they get both but it is possible.

I think there’s a real chance the team goes BIG this offseason. Coming off a World Series run, they can afford it.

That said, going all in with Bo and Tucker could create a Padres type mess where you spend big in one offseason and then pinch pennies thereafter while trying to contend. The next CBA looming doesn't help either.

So they’ll probably stay measured and spread the money around efficiently. Still, there’s a tiny chance they go really BIG and get them both, as remote as that might be.

We went from being a joke after 2024 with Vladdy/Bo potentially leaving to being one of the best landing spots for players.  Team Shatkins, take a bow, yall deserve it for standing firm lol.

Now lets hope we can take advantage and add some real difference makers this offseason.
