Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I think waiting on acquiring another bat could be wise. If a trade falls into our laps than go for it, but if we wait we can see if Taters rebounds. If he doesn't, bats seemingly always go for far less at the deadline than pitchers do. Shouldn’t be too hard to find a corner OF platoon bat at the deadline if needed, to platoon with Davis/Lukes/Loperfido/Barger/Okamoto/whoever is hot. Terminator and Spanky__99 2

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Framber would be sweet. Wonder who they would trade. Berrios is the one everyone mentions but he's such a dead weight, negative asset.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I mean I would take Valdez as a pure rotation upgrade and keeping him from a team like the Orioles. But realistically unless Bieber is not healthy the team already needs to move a Starter. So it doesn't seem like a natural fit. But considering the team offered Kyle Tucker $35 million they clearly have some juice and if you can't add the bat you want spend it on another pitcher and figure it out later. Especially if Valdez is willing to go short term.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 4 Posted February 4 12 hours ago, Laika said: Framber would be sweet. Wonder who they would trade. Berrios is the one everyone mentions but he's such a dead weight, negative asset. They wouldn’t trade Gausman and Yesavage, and obviously not Cease and Ponce, so that leaves Berrios and Bieber. Even if Biebs is a question mark health-wise, I would think the Jays were pretty happy that he opted in as the cost was practically nothing given his upside. Berrios is really the only option, realistically. The contract is awful and he ain’t opting out of 2/48 after this season, so you just have to hope there’s a bad contract swap somewhere. But that’s only a bridge to cross if they signed another SP (Framber). As is, the Jays need as much SP depth as possible and if Berrios is your #6, then that’s not terrible. Another option if they signed Framber would be moving Lauer (I guess) to save $5M, as Berrios could be the (disgruntled) long man/7th starter, but they’d have to determine if having an unhappy Berrios around would be worth it. Either way, Atkins moves in silence usually. The fact that Heyman specifically mentioned the Jays leads me to think it’s a nothing burger.

Seems like something AA would explore. Albies is an option for the 2 hole against LHP and we can platoon Clement/Gimenez/Albies in the middle inflield. I still would like a floor-raising move.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Trading Gausman is possible. Not likely and it would not be popular but if you ignore popularity it could make sense. Jays need SP from 2027 on, hence signing Framber (32) for several years Gausman (35) is more of a year-to-year guy given his age and bag of pitches (fringe velo, two pitches) Gausman in 2026 has surplus value. 3 win projection + durability and resume for a tidy salary. Signing Framber and trading Goose is still a mild SP upgrade Trading Goose could fetch a big upgrade elsewhere. I won't speculate, but they could get creative and package him with various players for a big upgrade on the position side and/or in relief. jaysblue and Brownie19 2

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 6 Posted February 6 9 hours ago, rydermike said: Report: Blue Jays contemplating Scherzer reunion https://thescore.com/mlb/news/3472736 He would be a wise addition. It's almost impossible to add starting pitching depth without a clear spot in the rotation. But if he's willing to start on the 60-day IL in ST and then make his debut in June I would be all for it. It's almost impossible to add starting pitching depth via free agency but this would be one way to do it.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I would love Max around the team just for the impact he has on Yesavage and the whole dugout. If he has to pitch once in a while to make that happen then sure, throw him in for mop up duty lol. But way more interested in what he brings to the culture than the field at this point of his career.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I'm kinda shocked Bassit hasn't signed anywhere yet. But you would think we would be more into him over Max. But would welcome them both back in a back end role. I am assuming there is legit injury concerns for both Bieber and Berrios for them to be so active in the Starters market.
