I think yesterday was a throwing day for Gilbert anyways between starts, but yeah big difference pitching in an actual ALDS Game 5 environment in terms of stress on his arm. He threw 34 pitches over 2 innings, so he should be good for either Game #1 or #2. Castillo should be fine after only throwing 15 pitches.

Forgot Woo was on the IL. They definitely need him back.

I just can't see them pitching Gilbert tomorrow. Yes, it would be on regular rest from his last start, but 34 extremely high stress pitches with runners on is not a side session. That would be an extremely irresponsible move on their part in my opinion, but I would be fine with it.

Castillo and Gilbert probably go in that order but major questions about effectiveness, on the road after these game 5 pitches

Yeah Mariners don't really have a choice. I see them going with Castillo for Game 1 and giving Gilbert an extra day of rest for Game 2.

Win both games in Toronto ideally and then at least 1 in Seattle.

I'm not a huge fan of the 2-3-2 setup personally, as the lesser team receives a pretty massive advantage in the series if they manage to split the first two games. I think something like 3-3-1 would be far more advantageous for the team with the better regular season record.

Probably intentional to avoid media availability. Get in late today and get to the hotel

Short rest for Bryce Miller but he only threw 55 pitches on Wednesday.

He had a brutal year but he has good stuff. Enigma. Could be good or bad.

Bryce Miller's biggest problem this year was he couldn't miss bats. Now he is facing a team that puts the bat on the ball. Probably not a good matchup for Seattle at all but crazy things happen.

Luis Castillo faced the Jays twice. He game up 8 runs and 17 hits in just 10 innings.

Vlad 3-7 with 3 walks

Barger 4-6 with a walk

So the team should just give up playing Bo completely because you saw him take a few swings you didn't like in a non competitive situation.

I think hobbling after taking a swing is probably not good. Nothing about his situation suggests that he's close. They're trying to force this.

looks good enough to me

Yeah but that's just jogging around the bases, what happens when he's way out in front of a pitch or when he has to make a quick cut and stop and start up again?

Whatever, they're going to do what they're going to do but there are downsides to bringing him back, at this point I'm not sure it's worth it given that he's clearly not 100%.

This short homestand is more important to the Jays than to the Mariners.

We will never see them this depleted again. If they take even 1 out of 2 they will have momentum going back home.

Tickets went on sale for ALCS general admission/standing room only…. $110 face value.

Thats insanity. They sold out in minutes too.

Can you see anything with that ticket? Where can you stand?

Absolutely, everyone is very excited about getting them while they're down but of course that can turn around on us real fast if we don't take care of business. They know their backs are back against the wall here early in the series. I don't expect them to lay down.

It's never easy, at this point nothing is.

Fangraphs giving the Mariners 57.3% chance to win the ALCS is insane to me. We are the better or at least equal hitting team, far far far superior defensive team, and I would say close to equal in terms of pitching overall.

Not to mention we're on 4 days rest with home field advantaged and they just played a 15 inning winner take all game where they failed to advance and score a runner from second multiple times.

It truly is

The Jays might even have a better pen all things considered

I don't think the projection systems realize the actual weight of:

- Mariners P overrated due to home park

- Jays offense being actually very good (has been for months)

I guess point #1 also goes with the Ms bats being underrated. Maybe their offense is better than WE think. It's a very legit top 6. Yankees-ish.

Mariners are 14th in starter WAR and 17th in reliever WAR, 18th overall. They're an average pitching team that is very tired. The Tigers were a better pitching team, despite the narrative.

I'm very excited to see what our bats can do against them, especially considering that their defense is about as bad as you'll ever see from a playoff team.

Their lineup is beatable if JS makes the right moves. Raleigh carried them, but there's a lot of weak spots and free outs if we pitch around him, much like the Yankees lineup. They have a very poor bench to counter any possible moves.
