Soo apparently we’re out of the running for Bregman??

I suspect this is true, unless his market completely disappears and he's left with a Chapman type deal (from last year).

He's certainly not lacking suitors. Among the teams that have shown -- and continue to show -- interest in the 30-year-old third baseman are the Tigers, Astros, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Cubs.

What do people know about Jose Iglesias and Brandon Roger's

Are either you guys think a good fit for a bench bat? Seem to have decent numbers and Iglesias posted a 3.1 WAR last year?

Can't say i follow any of the two closely but Iglesias numbers last year seem video game like

I'd rather the Jays not signing any bench guys IF/OF

They have more than enough internal options to fill out a decent bench and it's going to spill over into AAA too. I think they enough guys like this that it'll create healthy competition and one or two of them might actually pop like Schneider did in 2023.

Iglesias likely would be the starting 3B. I mean if he comes cheap, would give him a chance and it strengthens the infield depth even more. Would prefer having Clement as a super utility guy who you find 300-400 ABs and he could start in case of an injury. If Bo gets injured or Gimenez, slide over Iglesias and have Clement start at 3B.

The guys we've got are probably better. Jimenez projects a lot better than both, for example.

I would imagine Iglesias could compete for the 3rd base starting job if he were signed by the Blue Jays. Clement's projections are better than Iglesias and I would tend to agree with this. I don't think it's even remotely conceivable for Iglesias to repeat his 2024 success offensively. This is a player with a career 90 wRC+ and the projections largely place him in this bucket as well. His numbers against left handed pitching in particular look to be of the unrepeatable variety as he produced a 184 wRC+ in the split. If you look under the hood it's red flags galore, including a .471 BABIP and .416 wOBA vs .327 xwOBA.

I think the team has ample depth to cover the infield to the point where an Iglesias signing would serve to limit opportunities to the younger players for what most likely would amount to a marginal upgrade if an upgrade at all.

Pivetta signs 4/55 with Padres. Signing him for that and moving Bassitt for a bat would have been a shrewd move in my opinion.

Pivetta at 4/$55M was really good.

Much better than some of the other deals guys like Eovaldi and Severino signed for earlier in the offseason.

Could have maybe moved Bassitt earlier on in the offseason when the price for SPs was insane, but that would have left a huge hole in the Jays rotation and it wasn't a guarantee Pivetta was going to last this long and sign for that cheap.

100%. Came here to say the same thing.

Yeah - there's a chance that Bassitt isn't worth much on the market, because you can get better for less $$$ on the free agent mark.

I feel like they'd have to eat money to move Bassit for nothing if Pivetta was only getting that contract. I get the comp pick makes a difference but even Scherzer got less $ on a 1 year deal.

Yeah, considering the comp pick, that's a sexy signing by the Padres. Pivetta is finally getting out of a hitter's environment. Dude can spin dat ball.

To trade Bassitt for anything then get a deal like that on Pivetta later on, Atkins would have needed a crystal ball.

Like, he would have needed to deal Bassitt back in November when the market was on fire then wait it out until now to replace him. Tough.

He might be a sneaky fantasy pickup!

After last winter where Atkins spent real dollars on 0-1 WAR junk, I'd have no issues with someone like Roden making the team out of ST as long as he's earned it as opposed to trying to find a useful vet in the scrap heap portion of free agency.

He can't even say one normal sentence.

Anybody else: "Alan Roden. He's put himself in a position to contribute at the major league level"

Boss Atkins “I’ll single out and put some pressure on Alan Roden. He’s done so much to put himself in a position to move through the system quickly and has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look”

Roden has excellent plate discipline metrics, the knock has been little power, but last year saw a power boost.  Additional gains in the power dept = a solid big leaguer.

Would be awesome to have a young stud show out and grab a starting position rather than it being handed to him.  We need 2 of Rodon, Wagner and Barger to surprise during Spring Training... fingers crossed.

Watching MLB TV show ranking top 100 active players

Mookie Betts picked top 5

the crew interviewed the guy and such a very likeable personality, amazing humility but his game on the field such a gold mine

Dodgers so lucky to have him

If Roden and Wagner perform similarly you’re probably better off with Roden in LF and Santander at DH than having Wagner DH and Santander in LF.

Saw a pic of Bo at ST. Looks likes 225 pounds honestly. He might hit 25 homers but I’m afraid what the range is going to look like at SS. Looks way heavier than he did years prior.

You guys Mason Flubarty has a chance to crack the roster as a lefty arm?

Curious on opinions from the folks here that keep closer tabs on our prospects

Also what about Eric Pardhino? I see he had a really strong finish in AAA to close up the year and was lights out in AA. Any future left here with this kid? Seems like ages ago he joined the organization

Jays need to show some damn balls and move him to 2B.  You don't trade for Gimenez who has like 106M over 6 years left on his contract and let a much inferior defender play SS.  They had no problem moving Vlad off 3B so treat Bo the same way.

If anyone on here says we should bring Stroman back again, it should be an automatic lifetime ban.

Best move the FO ever made was to punt his ass. Would love to see him get traded to Oakland. And yes I know they don’t have a major league team anymore.
