Apparently managing your team to a 500 record through the first 6 months of the season and then beating up on the rays, twins, white sox, royals and a struggling Tigers makes you manager of the year now.  I guess the award should be renamed Manager of September.

Clase saying the phone calls they think were about pitch rigging were actually about his Cocks (he does cock fights)

So he's a scumbag piece of trash whatever way you slice it then.

Good riddance.

Yes crime.  Serious crime.

2022 he had a 0.00 ERA in the playoffs.  2024 he had a 0.65 ERA I think in regular season.

2024 he had like a 10.00 ERA in the playoffs.

Minor crime - I will throw a low pitch so my friend can make 1000 on his Parlay then I will strike out the side.

Major crime - I will blow the ALCS so the mafia can make 9.8 million.

Casual Fan like Olerud363.354 - I look at the baseball reference (bad site compared to fangraphs) and see big ERA by Clase in 2024 playoffs but not 2022.  I wonder if major crime occurred?  Will ask the expert posters on Blue Jays Centre (formerly Blue Jays message board) what they think.

I don't think the league needs to fix anything. People are gambling such insane amounts they're making a fortune just by taking their cut.

I've always thought myself more libertarian but what online gambling has become has really challenged that.

Why would it change your thoughts on being libertarian? Just because it's now impacting a sport that you enjoy rather than other issues that don't come up in your day-to-day?

I don't think its impacting the authenticity of the sport, At least not yet, but things could certainly get worse. MLB is in too close with the gambling sites when they can dictate their business operations.

More that it's ruining lives. Gambling was never so easy before. Tobacco, cannabis, and pharmaceutical ads are banned on TV and I'd say none of those are as harmful.

The Seidler family announced Thursday that they’re exploring selling the Padres.

John Seidler currently controls the Padres after the passing of his brother Peter in 2023. In Thursday’s press release, the Seidler family said it would continue to put “every resource into winning a World Series championship,” but that it wouldn’t comment further until the process of evaluating potential bids for the team plays out.

1 - I don't think anything changes from post to post.  I've had the same style for 20 years of posting on the variations of this board.

The point I was trying make was pretty simple but maybe it went over people's heads.  I consider myself a casual fan because I don't look at advanced statistics much (though I appreciate they exist and other's knowledge of them)...  I mean I go to fangraphs and look at WAR but everyone does that now.  What I don't do much of is looking at pitch level data.

So in a casual way I can go to baseball reference and look at Clase's ERA in 2024 (0.6 or something) and 2024 playoffs (10.0 or something) and say hmmmm....  as others have done too.

What I am curious about is what the pitch level data indicates.   Like he got caught for the pitch rigging thing not just because he was throwing balls but 'wasting' pitches at a crazy rate... so curious if there is anything in the pitch data from the 2024 playoffs, like middle/middle rate or something that would be suspicious.

Ohtani wins MVP then proceeds to kiss Decoy instead of his "wife" & no, I'm not buying the Japanese aren't into PDA's as a reason.

He's never given me straight vibes (as someone who isn't)

It's kinda messed up that MLB players still can't be open when you think about it

100% he’s super gay osbourne

Pro sports is probably a place where it’s going to be another 20 years before we start having players feel ok about coming out

His dog's name being Decoy is a sly but subtle hint.

If you were the pirates, would you do the Paul Skenes for everything pre arb trade? Or would other teams do it?

So, you go into winter meetings, and say the best pitcher in baseball is available, and he is under control for 4 years.

If you want to make an offer; give us the list of everyone pre arb that you are unwilling to put in a trade. Then we select anything and everything beyond that. So, like it could be skenes for 4 pre arb guys and 16 prospects total.

Who says no?

So, hypothetically yankees would be schittler, rice, lombard, jones, warren, dominquez and then like 14 other prospects plus anyone they like in the dsl.

They absolutely should but they won’t

They haven’t signed a FA to a multi year deal since Ivan Nova in 2016. If you’re not going to even pretend to compete you might as well sell at the peak which is now

No other team would make an offer like that though

As good as Skenes is, he still has a projected surplus value and he's not worth that much capital

They SHOULD trade him for a big haul right now though. A realistic top offer would be the top 5 or so prospects / rookies of a solid farm system. Like, Nolan McClean, Jett Williams, Carson Benge, Brandon Sproat, and someone else from the Mets. And the Mets might even not want to do that.

The Yankees probably get uncomfortable after offering Schlitter, Rice, and Jones, tbh.

I think i wouldn't do it then. You are essentially going to get the same good offers until trade deadline going into his last year. I'd need to be blown away 3/4 years out.

I do think there is added value though beyond surplus value if you expect to be in the playoffs. For the yankees and dodgers, who want to be there literally every year especially.
