Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Just until Muncy comes back and because Kiki sucks this year. Then we will see..
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Hahaha f*** Beast mode activated 2026 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Boston Red Sox) .344 54 141 Bo Bichette (Colorado Rockies) .377 31 151 Cavan Biggio (Los Angeles Dodger) .278 .401 .455 (Utility man of the year) 2026 Speech from Commissioner Mark Shapiro "Baseball is a game of joy, a game of generations, as commissioner it is my great honor to present the 'story of the year' award to American League MVP Vladimir Guerrero Jr., National League MVP Bo Bichette and Utility man of the year Cavan Biggio. All three came up together in the minor leagues and grew up together as major leaguers, it is with unbelievable joy I watched the legacy trio, now spread across this great continent from sea to sea bring total Joy to the game of baseball." "All three amazingly beat their Father's career high in fWAR. All three gave their cities thrills from April to deep into October (Colorado sure was rocking, a pleasant surprise in my first year as commissioner). There has never been anything like the legacy trio and I do proclaim, the game is healthy, the fans happy and there has never been a better time to watch baseball."

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 If it was any other team acquiring him I'd say that clearing his remaining salary and getting a breathing AAA arm was a tidy piece of business. But now I fully expect Cavan to put up Craig numbers in LA.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I have Vargas in a fantasy league and they were hardly playing him already. Guess they’ll feel Jays pain a little bit
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 LOL. the new Chris Taylor who has really declined
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 wow they got someone who might actually help at some point he just seems like a boring arm with middle relief upside right now https://scout.texasleaguers.com/players/680755 fastball, curveball, slider/cutter velo is fringe for a reliever but the K rate is there so the curveball must be good he has always had reverse splits, I wonder why
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Yeah Biggio is probably going to rake in LA. It would have never materialized here so no sense in getting upset when that happens but will be further indictment of the Jays coaching staff if it does. Anything that makes Mattingly and the hitting coaches on this team look worse than they already do works for me.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Muncy is currently hurt so good insurnace plus Vargas has been struggling in LF.....I think Biggio could see a bit of playing time at 3B and LF....all over. He will be their new Chris Taylor
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 He’s not going to rake. They clearly don’t like Vargas that much. Lux sux. Wonder if he has options, he’ll probably go down. Just saw Teo hit another HR. Great signing for them
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I don't think there's any indication here that the Dodgers think Biggio is any more than what he already is. He's at 0.5 WAR, just a warm body utility man with MLB experience that's better than replacement level and won't complain about his role if he's rarely used. His physical tools have greatly deteriorated, there's no 3+ WAR monster hiding in there or anything, and the Dodgers must know that.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Can't wait for the 4 fWAR Biggio to return Not unless the league brings back the 2019 super ball and the Dodgers manage to fix Cavan's 10th percentile bat speed.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I doubt the Dodgers think they can do anything to suddenly make Biggio a 2-3 WAR player. He's just a decent, versatile bench player that won't drain value, he'll hover just above replacement and not hurt you.

He's just a decent, versatile bench player that won't drain value, he'll hover just above replacement and not hurt you. Which definitely does have value. He's been around 1 WAR over 100ish games a season the last couple of years. Solid for a utility player. Having a Biggio is how you don't wind up needing play Ryan Goins or Panik etc. Guys who put up -0.8 WAR in 50 games. You have to kind of view it as a potential 1.5-2 WAR difference when you have a genuinely solid utilityman from the trash you may otherwise wind up with at the end of your bench. If you look at the Jays the last two years with Biggio in that role, very few ABs were wasted on complete trash. Basically Bradley Zimmer who was an OF in 2022 and the 13 game disaster of Paul DeJong last year. Its an important role, especially if you're a team on the fringes of the playoff race, you can't afford to give wins away by playing complete trash. This year as well if you look at the worst value players, it's just Bargers 5 games. Bichette and Turner are otherwise the worst, there's no bench guys draining ABs.

Clearing his salary and getting a fringe relief prospect with major control issues is the best the Jays could do.

Biggio had 8 middle of the order ABs last year in the ALDS. That is eight too many, especially middle order. DFA him made sure we are not tempted to even try something like that again.
Raineman73 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 The casuals on social media are losing their sh*t right now. Not sure why a career .227 avg, .725 OPS, 27.1% K rate and 7.4 WAR over 5+ seasons player is gonna be missed that much.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 His career totals and WAR track record remain decent for the money. He just happens to suck NOW which is kind of all that matters. I will say it for the 100th time, he can't hit anymore. It's so f***ing obvious. And he's past the top of his aging curve so it's probably over. I mean maybe he sticks around as a bench player for a while but he needs to change some things to make that viable because with a swiss cheese swing, no power, and middling defensive utility there is not much to like there. It's a weird profile. He can take a walk and run well, and not embarrass himself at LF/RF/2B/1B/3B so that works but he's also a utility player who can't play CF or SS which is not ideal and teams like pinch hitters with pop.
