You’ve truly lost your marbles

I'm the only sane one. The phones have messed up everyone's brain and I don't use phones for input (I talk on them, and mindlessly scroll through s***, but don't order pizza, write e-mails or anything, or press the phone buttons much, do that on an older style machined called the 'desktop PC' (if at home) and the 'laptop PC' if on road (Home has Windows 10 and they are making me upgrade to 11 soon, laptop has Ubuntu, both have nice qwerty keyboards for expressive typing).

So to those who don't know what the QWERTY keyboard is and have never used one for the old style communication which was a bit longer than the phone style communication...

Short "YO BRO" version - 97 MPH fastball hit Vlad on finger. Finger might be crushed and big time slump might happen! Trade value might tank! Yo Bro!"

Varsho's statcast page is horrifying stuff. Do yourselves a favor and just don't even look at it.

.245 xwOBA is disgusting. Didn’t realize his expected stats were that bad. Playing him in LF is insane given what his bat is even in a best case scenario (league average).

Turner 2023: .276/.345/.455

Turner 2024: .250/.354/.377

He has a wRC+ of 114 in both years. Crazy how down offense is this year.

The only real change this year was shortening the pitch clock a cpl seconds. i wonder if that is impacting.

They are terrible. Ironically most of alleged noodle bat Moreno's numbers aren't great, but much better than Varshos - avg EV, Hard hit %, xSLG

Varsho is 28 with 1900 career PAs - stick him in CF every day to play elite D, and run into the odd home run = 2 to 3 WAR. All good.

Playing him in left also means you have KK in center with his team worst bat in the lineup

BlueJays announce that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is out of the lineup with right 4th/5th finger discomfort

Surprised not on here yet or MLB trade rumors.

However, multiple U.S sites are saying that according to MLB insiders, the Jays have already reached out to teams and made every player with an expiring contract available.

I think we all knew they were going to do this. However, first time I am seeing anything that the Team has actually started down that path formally.

Yes, Bob Niightengale reported that the word is out.

His statcast page was horrifying when his overall numbers were decent. I haven't paid proper attention in a couple of weeks and I see that he has gone 2/36 since then, and now he's overperforming poor hitting numbers.

Literally everyone agrees he should just be playing CF (and signing KK was a waste) for the future. It's the only place that bat will play.

But if you look at the past seasons it looks pretty much the same

He is what he is it seems, an elite CF defender with 20+ HR pop who might hit under .200

More power and better defender but ya the package is similar

It's actually kind of impressive how terrible the statscast page is. He doesn't hit the ball hard, he doesn't hit it at the right launch angle, the exit velocity is at the bottom of the entire league he strikes out a lot.

The only qualified hitter his expected numbers are better than is Tim Anderson. I think given his expected numbers the last two years before this, it's very reasonable to run on the assumption that he's going to be a below average bat going forward. How far below average is an open question cause he can't be quite as bad as his expected numbers currently I think. It'll be the difference between him being a 2 WAR player and a 3 WAR player.

He does not hit the ball hard often enough but he CAN nuke it and since he has such an extreme FB rate and pull rate he's basically just a dice roll at a home run every time he is at the plate

Pretty s***** tbh but that kind of approach is always going to be very unstable, subject to all kinds of swings in batted ball luck or LD rate or HR rate.

Still could end up as Kyle Schwarber lite with the stick at some point.

I'll take KS lite with elite CF defense all day long

Have to play him CF though Jays

Yes I think so too. There would have to be a pretty significant skill change for him to be a comfortably above average bat

I think everyone would be thrilled with that. The problem is he’s like the dollar store version of Kyle Schwarber, not the lite version

The one thing that has been true about Varsho is that just when everyone and their mom starts to hate him because he looks utterly hopeless with the stick he goes on some kind of homer binge or has like 7 bunt hits and diving catches in a week

But at the end of the day 90 wRC+ and a .290 wOBA are what they are

It isn’t hate it’s just a combination of observing, eye test and looking at the numbers

Yup, he's probably a 90 - 95 wRC+ hitter and that is perfectly acceptable for an elite defensive CFer.

But we all choose what numbers to look at

Every projection system still says 100 wRC+ or better

His BABIP, LD%, HR/FB%, and Bunt Hint success rate are all below his career norms, expectations, and projections at the moment. Some or all of that deviation is probably just noise.

For sure. I don't understand how some of the projections are equal to or greater than his best career season but doesn’t really matter

Only until they finally give up on giving KK playing time

Yeah at this point they are playing KK in the hopes that he'll start hitting so they can trade him.
