Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 When was the last time this FO traded a guy that didn’t end up being a complete disappointment?? Am I blanking here? Seems like every elite prospect we trade away ends up amounting to nothing At what point do we look at this and wonder how come the Jays can't draft guys that can make it? Or is all the blame on the teams that receive these players for ruining them?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Most prospects bust That's the easy way out. How many prospects of the Atkins era have actually hit, and compare that to the rest of the league. That would me a more meaningful take.

That would me a more meaningful take. well from 2016 , there's a 5 WAR SS, couple of backup position players, back of the rotation starter, a couple relievers and a few cups of coffee 2017 - 1 legit starting 1B, 2 backup/AAAA position players, 2 relievers, 1 cup of coffee. 2018 - 4 cups of coffee 2019 - 1 SP and 1 cup of coffee Not much to discuss beyond 2019 since the 2020 draft was only 5 rounds and virtually no picks from 2020 or later have made the majors yet. Torkelson and Detmers off the top of my head. This also ignores the international free agents he signed that include 2 All Star positions players. Edited July 28, 2023 by John_Havok

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 He seemed to wilt under pressure in the majors. I guess Police work is a good fallback position. No pressure there.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Starting CF for the Toronto Blue Jays 2015. Good for him though. Seriously. That overwhelming vast majority of ball players don't even get an AB in MLB.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Starting CF for the Toronto Blue Jays 2015. Good for him though. Seriously. That overwhelming vast majority of ball players don't even get an AB in MLB. Through July 26, 2023 in baseball history, and since 1876 (first year of the National League), there have been a total of 20,448 Major League ballplayers. For perspective, if you then were able to take every one of those MLB players and put them as fans in Rogers Centre is still wouldn't even quite be half filled.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 was it not a series of injuries..mainly concussions? Yeah it was mostly injuries. I think he had a couple concussions and started to get them when like, sunflower seeds hit his head too hard.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 He delivered in the most high pressure moment of his career. He just wasn't very good otherwise. He absolutely did. Brilliant job. Nelson completely f***ed Navarro and Revere, and thus us. I’ll never get over it. My son was 7 and knew enough about ball then to know those strike calls changed at bats dramatically and erupted in tears when it was over and ran to his room. I was mostly just angry lol.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 "I've found ever since the season started I've been playing somewhat scared just because I don't want to make a mistake." These are Pompey's own words. He couldn't deal with pressure. But yes, dude was also made of glass. A bad combination.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 The Pirates selected infielder Vinny Capra. Pittsburgh acquired the 27-year-old for catcher Tyler Heineman in a minor swap with the Blue Jays at the end of April. His big league experience consists of eight games with Toronto last season. The right-handed hitter owns a massive .350/.457/.485 showing with more walks than strikeouts over 34 games at Triple-A Indianapolis for the Bucs. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/minor-40-man-moves-adams-ortega-capra.html

We met when Dalton was playing A ball and sat together at most games. He was very involved in his son's career. Nuff said. Dalton had sprinter speed. I remember him beating out a routine grounder to 2nd baseman.

This year he is 51.1 IP 1.93 ERA .857 WHIP 59 Ks Jason Adams who had a 2.91 ERA for Jays in 2019 who was also deemed not good enough and let go for nothing. Allowed 58 hits over the last two years in 106 IP

Allowed 58 hits over the last two years in 106 IP Merryweather also having a great season with the Cubs. It happens all the time with relievers. Plus it's tough to hold onto an arm for over 3-4 years and hope they turn into something, especially if they aren't performing for you at the MLB level. Sucks they let go of Adams and Payamps, but oh well. This FO has had mixed results when it comes to assessing BP arms for some reason.

I do not know how he did it, but this year he increased his K/9 by 55% and lowered his BB/9 by 46%!

Countdown to Tapia becoming a 5+ WAR OF … Yeah all he needs to do is learn how to hit and learn how to play an effective outfield as well. Should be easy enough to do.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 LGJ would be tied for our team lead in bombs this year with Vlad at 18. He is hot again so back up to 1.3 WAR to Varsho's 0.9 so no Aug WAR bet bonus for Hurl. Season bet might come down to the wire. Varsho has looked a little better lately.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 What bet? Sounds like fun. Hurl bet someone Varsho WAR > than LGJ WAR by end of year and he got double if it was more by Aug 1. Which is wasn't. Its back in ITT a few pages.
