Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Hurl bet someone Varsho WAR > than LGJ WAR by end of year and he got double if it was more by Aug 1. Which is wasn't. Its back in ITT a few pages. Oh hahaha... that was close.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 I just made a 2023 $50 fWAR bet. Varsho vs Lourdes (no injury backout). It doubles for me if Varsho passes him by August 1st. What does everyone think? Here it is.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 LGJ would be tied for our team lead in bombs this year with Vlad at 18. He is hot again so back up to 1.3 WAR to Varsho's 0.9 so no Aug WAR bet bonus for Hurl. Season bet might come down to the wire. Varsho has looked a little better lately. Well. It’s finally happened. Varsho has finally passed LGJ in fWAR.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo slugging .742 over his last 15 games and .532 over the last 30. 22 HRs now. Think SEA is glad they never moved him at the deadline?

Think SEA is glad they never moved him at the deadline? Was he even on the market, I think that was wishful thinking? They just sold high on Sewald.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Was he even on the market, I think that was wishful thinking? They just sold high on Sewald. probably not, mostly the Toronto media plus they interviewed him on SN around the trade deadline and asked about coming back and he seemed open to it
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 probably not, mostly the Toronto media plus they interviewed him on SN around the trade deadline and asked about coming back and he seemed open to it Yeah, was just industry scuttlebutt.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Was he even on the market, I think that was wishful thinking? They just sold high on Sewald. Ya, I am not saying that he was. Nobody knows for sure if he was or wasn't. That was the media gossip. At the end of day, most things can be had. It all depends on the price and if it makes sense to the buyer to pay it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo was bound to have a monster month at some point That's how he rolls
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo was bound to have a monster month at some point That's how he rolls Teo walks off the Jays in wildcard game 3 in Seattle. I would die
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo walks off the Jays in wildcard game 3 in Seattle. I would die And Swanson gives up the HR.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo was always good for about a 3 week heater, followed by a month on ice. And preceded by a month on ice.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teo was always good for about a 3 week heater, followed by a month on ice. All comes out in the wash. Through 2020-2022 he put up 142, 132 and 129 wRC+ seasons. Not too shabby. Those 2022 two home runs in the playoffs in game 2 vs Seattle would be going down in Jays lore if the team didn’t blow it, and came back to win that series. Too bad.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Teoscar has a 128 wRC+ in his last 313 PA (since June). He was bad in April and May, and horrendous in July, but great in June and August. Keeping his streakiness alive.

It's better than consistently s***.

I agree, don't get me wrong, I miss his bat. The team misses his bat.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Gabby Moreno is looking really good right now
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Gabby Moreno is looking really good right now Yea almost like he’s a 23-year rookie playing a physically demanding position. He’s going to have up and downs. But his potential is off the charts. He can impact the game at both sides of the ball.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 3 run shot of Miller. 98mph the opposite way
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Gabby Moreno is looking really good right now Damn, 167 wRC+ in the 2nd half, good for him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Such a stud I've always been a huge Moreno fan and have been adamant that Toronto will deeply regret that trade, if they don't already. Kirk turning into a Joe Louis and Varsho showing he has the hit tool of a typical catcher = not helping

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Gabby Moreno is looking really good right now Yeah he still has loads of potential and definitely has the opportunity to take his game to the next level. I don't want to start an argument by talking about that Jays/D'Backs trade for the 1000th time on here knowing the Atkins Homer brigade will be looking to attack. Though while still early, given the results so far this season, looks like the Jays might have traded away the wrong catcher. But like I've said numerous times, given the Jays timeline and the season Kirk was coming off of, was tough to trade him and roll with an inexperienced guy like Moreno, plus we don't know who the D'Backs preferred anyways.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Gabby Moreno is looking really good right now He is 23 and under AZ control until 2029. I don't think they were too worried about his slow start in '23. We bought high at the time for a 2022 4.8 WAR now 27 year old Varsho through the 24, 25 and 26 seasons. He is been great on D and the bat has come on after an awful start. Move him to CF next year. He is a player you have to work hard not to like. Makes me wish we could have sold high on Kirk. But who knows what other teams valued him last year though.

It doesn't sound like anybody was hot for Kirk.

Yeah it's tough not to like Varsho even despite his struggles earlier on this season. Glad he's turned things around offensively at least and looking forward to seeing him in CF full time next season. Hopefully the Jays could get a 4-5 WAR season or two out of him in 2024 and 2025. We don't know if Arizona valued Kirk or Moreno more in a trade, but yeah right now would prefer to have Moreno moving forward given his age, control and athleticism. 2024 will be a make or break it season for Kirk - he either gets into better shape and returns to his 2022 form offensively where he becomes a .280/.370/.430 type of bat with 10-15 HR's or he's just a slap hitting catcher who gives you .240/.330/.330 with 5-10 HR's per season.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
