Of course we don’t know. We can just judge on the end result. Maybe three years ago someone offered something big for Pearson and Jays passed. This is the kind of stuff where legends get made or lost

..I’m not being 100% serious here btw but at least somewhat serious about having some balls

Does it not take some balls to gamble on KK? He has the potential to be a top 10 CFer.

Before this year he ranked 13th, 11th, 13th for CFers by WAR. Even battling injuries this year he was comparable to someone like Dylan Carlson on a value per game basis.

Kiermaier just provided as much value in 60 games plagued by injury as Tapia's entire career combined.

400 PA of a Kiermaier platoon is fine, we just have to worry about injuries affecting his defensive value.

Thanks for pointing that out, I thought those were the official terms lol.

I guess jury is still out on this signing

Same here. He posted it like a fact, not speculation. I am definitely not going to double check that kind of thing...lol. I guess I trust you guys too much.

The only person you should trust here is BTS

Well, any move that gets made, or doesn’t get made, takes some balls as another WC finish and 1st round bounce could realistically mean his job

Hope everyone likes KK because they're going to play him....a lot.

Given how much time Kiermaier tends to miss due to injury his playing time is self limiting. He's extremely unlikely to even match the amount of playing time Tapia received, but isn't a total zero defensively so can still provide plenty of playing time to the club.

any chance we still pick up another outfielder in a swap for Jansen? Anyone??

Hope so... we have a good lineup but far from one that I'd consider to be scary and good enough to offset our other limitations. Still want that impact left handed bat. Not sure who or how tbh.

If he stays healthy he will play more than Tapia did. Unless we get another OF?

Good?

Don't like him as a person but as has been noted his d will be a good addition. The needle has been moved by the slightest of margins but he may not hit his weight. Bradley Zimmer 2.0?

I’d be shocked if the Jays didn’t add another outfielder, either in free agency or trade. Conforto makes a lot of sense in free agency. Not sure about the trade market. Jansen for Happ would be fine as a 2023 swap but the Cubs would have to add something for the one fewer year of control.

Is Gallo poised for a bounce back season with the elimination of the shift?

Left handed power bat, platoon with Gurriel in LF and do some DHing?

Maybe. Can’t really be worse than he was with the Yankees. Who knows

My apologies, I was geneinely trolling. My cameras in the Kiermaier household were removed when he got married. I'm sure this is a 1 year or 1 and 1 deal.

Also, Ross stopped playing cribbage when I claimed muggins on him.

Not to rehash Covid, but I wonder if it plays any factor still. Like the threat of an outbreak that Canada comes down hard on, suddenly Conforto can’t play

Brantley

Conforto

Benintendi

Pollock

Profar

I would be interested in all of these guys to varying degrees.

Kiermaier has only managed to exceed Tapia's 2022 playing time twice in his entire career. It seems pretty unlikely he will exceed that coming off of hip surgery.

If Gallo doesn't bounce back platooning him with Gurriel might actually make the offence worse. Gurriel produced 119 WRC+ vs RHP in 2022 vs 100 WRC+ for Gallo.

I kind of like the idea of Max Kepler as a potential trade candidate. His underlying Statcast metrics are pretty encouraging and he's run a sizeable xWOBA/WOBA spilt the last few seasons. As a heavily shifted left handed batter he has potential to benefit quite a bit from the upcoming shift ban

Holy s***, what a disappointing offseason this will be.

Don't think we need to do full time platoons if Gallo was here. We still have the DH spot that we can rotate people through. I'm sure Kirk will take up half those spots but it should be available the other half and that's assuming we're at full health.

Kepler has always been an interesting guy, I wouldn’t hate that. Would prefer a couple of the other guys first but would lump him with Pollock and Profar for sure.

Yeah I actually thought the Jays would get Kepler before the KK signing. I guess they still can get him if they think his bat has potential to improve, but after KK I think the team needs a LH bat that can hit closer to the top of the order. Conforto and Brantley are probably the best fits in that regard, although if Brantley needs to DH most of the time then he may not be the best roster fit unless Kirk is traded.
