Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 It’s basically Tapia 2.0 with much better D. Also he’s white if that matters ..and Teo plays the role of Grichuk for next year?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 The year we got Glaus/Overbay and friends and 2013 after the Marlins trade and adding Dickey... boy were those exciting times in the offseason. We'll ignore how the season actually went lol Bad comp for a few reasons. There’s a difference between building a WS contender and then adding pieces to go next level, vs throwing a bunch of middle of the road s*** in a pot
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Reading the musings of armchair GMs is entertaining. Isn’t that what we’re all here for
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 I'd say more like Pillar. KK is better defensively and should expect the same OBP from him offensively. Let's not forget the added base running that we could certainly use. If he can be 2015/16 Pillar I would be ecstatic
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 While I hated his laziness in the field, clearly his extension expectations were too unrealistic for the Jays. There is no doubt that Teo is going to have his best season as a pro next year (assuming he's healthy). Part of me would have taken that + the compensation pick over what we ended up doing. Then again, I have very little exposure to Swanson and he could easily shut me up during the season. There is plenty of doubt whether Teo is going to have his best season ever, it's pretty presumptuous of you to suggest that. On a rate basis he had his best ever season in 2020, and he's been steadily trending downwards ever since then. With better health I don't doubt he can regain a bit of the lost value in the field and on the bases, but it's pretty unrealistic to expect that he's going to suddenly reach another new level of skill at the age of 30.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 It’s funny how good this fit is And how much some people hate it I’m laughing out loud

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 I think the issue is we will have to adapt the Hottest Blue Jays contest where someone they all hate is now number 1 Completely agree He’s just too hot basically
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 I think most good looking guys hit their peak physical attractiveness in their mid 30s so KK is entering his prime years in that regard. On top of it he's upgrading his uniforms. So MLB's best looking player in MLB's best unis is a perfect match. The ladies and gay men are going to have a great summer at the ballpark this year.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 It’s funny how good this fit is And how much some people hate it I’m laughing out loud Trading for a controllable CF that could use something other than a wet pool noodle wouldve actually been more ideal. But it’s good you’ve conditioned yourself so well for disappointment
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 It’s funny how good this fit is And how much some people hate it I’m laughing out loud It's hard to sign players like this who are comfortable with 400-450 AB roles like this. They either sign for non contenders who can guarantee them starting roles or they sign for the premier franchises like the Yankees or Dodgers. It's a great fit and I'm excited we signed him. But based on Jimbo's scientific poll 80% of this board are dummies who would prefer Bellinger and his .260 OBP for some unknown reason.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 9 pages already for a pretty expensive depth move (I hope). We are starved for Jay’s news.

Wasn’t a Belly guy (other than as 4th OF) but Would you rather have $1 bill or $1 scratch off that could be worth $1000. I’ll take the scratch off. In this case, it’s like getting a scratch off where you’re hoping you get your $1 back after scratching it off

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Can Kiermaier teach Kirk to run faster?? If so this could be an excellent signing
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Mistakes are rarely so clear cut in baseball, but this is pretty bad. Why would we not trade for Kiermaier at 1/10.5 instead of giving him 2/24? He was clearly not on their radar going into the offseason and/or they horribly misread the market. I really don't see how anyone could like this contract. On the field, I think he fits well and I expect that the 1.2 WAR projection is pretty on point. I just hate that we threw away several million dollars for nothing.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 I like how everyone takes Hurl's estimates as gospel. I don't think we actually know the terms yet.

I just noticed that, my mistake. Anything over about 1/11 or 2/20 would be a tremendous mistake, given what he could have been had for earlier. I don't think that can be disputed.

Not your fault there were 4 pages of people assuming that those were the contract deals prior to your post.

Anything over about 1/11 or 2/20 would be a tremendous mistake, given what he could have been had for earlier. I don't think that can be disputed. “Tremendous” —— not exactly. It would be a very minor miscalculation, in hindsight. A mistake about the size of a rounding error. It’s also completely possible Tampa Bay didn’t engage in good faith with a division rival on the trade possibility. Maybe they asked for an actual prospect

But it’s good you’ve conditioned yourself so well for disappointment You say this like Toronto didn’t heavily explore the trade route. I would assume Sexy Ross has dozens of hours of phone calls with all possible trade partners at this point. And Kiermaier is a great fit in part because he does not preclude another move for an OF, whatsoever.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 More like a 100$ bill or a 200$ scratch off This is a bit more accurate, yes

We can just judge on the end result. Maybe three years ago someone offered something big for Pearson and Jays passed. This is the kind of stuff where legends get made or lost ..I’m not being 100% serious here btw but at least somewhat serious about having some balls
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) If it's like a 8m/yr deal it's not too bad, considering Haniger got 14m/yr. Are the details out yet? Edited December 11, 2022 by xposbrad
