Again, let’s not assume billionaires are stupid. They all see how these contracts go, just like the rest of us.

Rogers is always going to operate with constraints. This isn’t Mike Illitch’s Tigers or Steve Cohen’s Mets

Like lots of others have said the only FA contract I even would’ve wanted is Verlander’s

Like the Boston Red Sox have twice dumped superstar players in order to get out from bad contracts

Who's the best hitting lefty that Shatkins have acquired or developed during their entire era? I'm honestly drawing a blank here lol.

Biggio lol

Well. Yes I agree. That’s what I’m saying. But It wouldn’t be like “omg, how f***ing stupid are the Mets and SD”

.. they’re not stupid at all. Just operating differently

Even the Dodgers have a budget of sorts, or a spending philosophy. They shy away from mega contracts

If we consider this the bookend of the Teo trade...

Teoscar Hernandez (15M) gone

Kiermeier (12M) + Possible back end pen for 1.5M and a prospect in.

Defense = better, pen = better, offense=worse.

Are the Jays overall better, worse... or is this a push?

Seems like a wash to me. Idk. Springer to RF is a defensive upgrade also though FWIW.

Maybe ends up being more of a culture change move

They are quite good inefficient in their use of resources.

You don’t have to call that “stupid” but they do actively make holes in future teams that they have to either spend their way out of or live with.

The age of the Mets right now is kind of bonkers.

What can change of course, is ownership like a Boston and then the contracts can go south very fast. So admittedly, there is that threat

Worse. Something about getting rid of your cleanup hitter who showed up large in the playoffs for a guy coming off major Hip surgery doesn't call it a wash for me. Teo is entering a contract year so I fully expect him to have the best year of his career.

The reliever from Seattle will need to be lights out in high leverage situations for things to look good for us.

Teo hit 5th more than he did 4th last year.

Try again

Exactly. They’re just really really good at development. Same as the Rays, Cards, Braves, Astros

That’s the model to replicate, not spend spend spend

Yeah. There’s extreme examples of operation on the high end and low end. But just go to an alternate universe for a second and say the Jays keep Teo this off season (get RP some other way) and decide f*** it, let’s sign Judge and say Rodon. That’s not a bad thing. It doesn’t fit what they’re doing, but it wouldn’t be terrible.

Ya we still need a big left handed bat that can crack the top 4 of the order. I have no idea who that player will be and what position they'd play but it's def needed.

Rowdy

Causals would be creaming their pants. Tons of franchise excitement. Franchise value would prob see a boost

Teo's laziness got him traded.

While I hated his laziness in the field, clearly his extension expectations were too unrealistic for the Jays. There is no doubt that Teo is going to have his best season as a pro next year (assuming he's healthy). Part of me would have taken that + the compensation pick over what we ended up doing.

Then again, I have very little exposure to Swanson and he could easily shut me up during the season.

The year we got Glaus/Overbay and friends and 2013 after the Marlins trade and adding Dickey... boy were those exciting times in the offseason. We'll ignore how the season actually went lol

I would say this is a possibility, not sure why you’re acting like its a certainty

So assuming he's healthy, he'll provide wonderful defence and will essentially be a black hole in the lineup. Kiermaier supporters will quote his plus D-WAR and his detractors will point out his negative O-War all season long. Sound about right?

That would be exciting and make them immediate World Series contenders but would handicap a lot of other moves.

Idk I’ve always been a little risk averse. Leave some wiggle room in case of emergency.

It’s basically Tapia 2.0 with much better D.

Also he’s white if that matters

Even Teo of the past few seasons was massive for us... not sure why you're dismissing his offensive contributions. And let's not forget that cannon of an arm for the times he could catch the ball lol.

Because he expects that everything will blow up in the Jays face.

It’s important to acknowledge how those seasons went lol

I'd say more like Pillar. KK is better defensively and should expect the same OBP from him offensively. Let's not forget the added base running that we could certainly use.
