Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Who gets moved in the off season? Jansen, Kirk, or Moreno? Who currently has the most trade value?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Jansen or Moreno make the most sense. If the team is all in the next two years then I'd trade Moreno. If they are going for sustainable longterm contention I think I'd trade Jansen. If you really want to get into the nitty gritty then I'd look to see which of them hit high velocity the best because the team isn't that great at it overall. I think Jansen in particular really struggles with velocity.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 I would move Jansen simply because he is 4 years older. Go with youth. Also I believe Jansen would be more coveted as a catcher who can hit so he would get us more value in return. If Kirk can get his body issues worked out over the next couple of years, he will eventually be more a more valueable asset. Sorry Jano.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Kirk's body issues are overblown, especially considering the fact that he will be paired with another good defensive C in either Jansen or Moreno and will DH a fair bit of the time. We have 4 years of control left on Kirk and it's through his age 24-27 seasons. He'll be fine. Jansen, the guy who supposedly doesn't have body issues, has missed significant time in every season he's been a regular. He's also older than Kirk yet despite all of this no one ever considers his body breaking down like they constantly do with Kirk.

He signed as an infielder so I'm assuming he spent most of his baseball life playing there and could probably play a passable corner outfield spot. Edit: But I do think the front office moves one and I'd guess Jansen.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 The fact none got traded this last year suggests to me their trade value hasn't been as high as we'd like?
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 They don't know what they have in Moreno yet to trade any of the catchers. Moreno needs more MLB time to see how good he is then trade one of them

A .300 average with 15 homers and good defense at C is pretty awesome. I get it if we keep all 3, we'll need to find him some PT but the better move would be to trade someone.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 I'd trade Vlad or Bo before any of them

If Moreno can cover some of the IF and OF, he's basically Gavin Lux with catching ability making the league minimum which is incredibly valuable. This would mean less Tapia and give us the flexibility of a legitimate 3rd catcher. And getting enough ABs wouldn't be a problem with that many positions to cover. The biggest concern is that it would be a huge ask for a young player to learn to cover all these positions and still develop as a hitter and catcher.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Kirk. I really don't think his value will ever be higher. He'll probably continue to hit moving forward but I don't know how long he'll have any defensive value at all and if he can barely run 1st to home at 23 years old, it's gonna be pretty ugly moving forward. And it's not like his bat is THAT good. He faded pretty badly in the second half of the season. You can probably extend Jansen for a couple years on a sweetheart deal and Moreno can break in slowly while also providing spot duty at 2B. But I agree our focus should be keeping him mostly as a C.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Kirk is the easy choice for me. I like him but he has shown no commitment to improve his glaring weight issue. Guys like that tend to not hold up very well. The wrong side of 30 starts at 28 for him. He has far and away the highest value to secure the best return. And we go into next 2 season with 2 Athletic Catcher’s behind the plate.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 The wrong side of 30 starts at 28 for him. Perfect. We have 4 more years of team control on him through his age 27 season.
peterkim Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 i would move Jansen since he is high value now , I dont want to move him by himself but package him with Bo Bichette and 2 minor leaguers for good player
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Perfect. We have 4 more years of team control on him through his age 27 season. Or trade him now while his value is at premium and impact the roster in another key area. You have a great Catcher in Jansen who they honestly prefer Catching anyway. And you’re young Star Prospect under his wing who can make starts at other positions. The other advantage is never having to clog up the DH slot. You can rotate the DH more freely.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Trade Kirk. Let's not trade the best offensive player on the team since June last year.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Keep all 3, Moreno can replace Biggio.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 I would probably lean towards one of Kirk or Jansen, depending on what they could bring back. Keep Moreno since he'll be under club control for 6 more seasons. I don't think you'll be able to package Moreno with anyone else to bring in an elite arm or player in return.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 How many catchers in MLB history have more walks than strikeouts at age 23.... Yeah lets trade that guy
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 How many catchers in MLB history have more walks than strikeouts at age 23.... Yeah lets trade that guy Yes, sell high on Kirk He should return a quite valuable pitcher or pitching
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Yes, sell high on Kirk He should return a quite valuable pitcher or pitching Lets trade him for another free swinger with low IQ
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Lets trade him for another free swinger with low IQ Nah, move him for pitching, replace him with a similar hitter in Moreno
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Who gets moved in the off season? Jansen, Kirk, or Moreno? Who currently has the most trade value? I picked none of them, simply because my answer is where they get the best value, pull the trigger.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 None unless some team offers way too much for one.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Maybe theres a deal ti be had with the Diamondbacks
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I guess you gotta move whoever fetches the biggest relative haul like Jim has been saying. If Kirk gets you a young stud SP with 3+ years you have to think about that Jansen with two years remaining is only going to appeal to teams who plan on competing and might not want to subtract from their big league roster. St. Louis would be a logical partner if they were willing to move major league pieces. Moreno is the biggest question mark. I won’t be upset if they move him to address other needs but I get the feeling he’s the safest bets to stay out of the three.

I think Jansen’s bat is a lot better than people give him credit for, so I have no problem with him as the main catcher. Also Kirk is like 50/50 C/DH and we have enough DH guys to rotate already on this team. The team would be better served trading Kirk for a starting pitcher. Gotta fill 2 spots in the rotation this offseason IMO.
