Laika Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Even at his 2022 performance Teo has a bit of surplus value over what he will get in his final arb. Methinks. Pretty cool and good that he is the team's 7th best player though.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Absolutely insane isn't it? Dude hits 2 home runs in an elimination game and the casual fans want to non-tender him Small sample size bro

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 Teo's worth every cent of 15M easy.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 At what price point and term would you feel comfortable at signing Teoscar to a long term deal? Assuming he loves it here, believes in the team and wants to be a part of it all. 5/80M starting in 2023, with a NTC? 2023-27 could look something like 20-20-15-15-10.

I think you have to pass on Teo and let him walk honestly. Springer is pretty much the same type of player and he can take over one of the corners. Then I think we should get a lefty bat for the other corner, someone like Schwarber/Conforto would be a good fit. We already have too many high K high power righties in the lineup and I think we’d be better off diversifying the roster.

A corner OF in his 30's is not someone I'd prioritize signing long term if I were the Jays, especially with his BB:K rates. I think I'd hold on to him for 2023 since he's still a good player and maybe he rakes in his FA year, but I wouldn't go beyond that.
keggy Verified Member Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 When it comes to Teoscar you take whatever you can in his contract year and then you let him walk. The guy doesn't run out ground balls in the middle of a pennant race. Imagine how lazy he'll be after he signs a big fat contract.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 If Teo is going to walk, rather than have him walk for nothing ideally move one of the 3C for a CF, and trade Teo for an SP3 or SP4. This offseason.

This offseason. Its fine to let a guy walk. Might even get his best year from it. IDK what competing team is willing to trade away a serviceable starter for 1 year of a 3 WAR corner OF making 15 mil
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 I do think the team could trade Teoscar but it's just another one of those small possibilities they will put on their very Ross Atkins-y whiteboard of non-aggressive brainstormed general possibilities for offseason discourse. Offseason Explorations - trade a catcher - trade Teoscar to get a longer term asset and/or open up payroll space - trade Gurriel if another team likes him a lot - move Springer to a corner and bring in a solid defensive CF. This upgrades the entire OF defense and will help Springer stay healthy. - trade Espinal or Biggio or Merrifield depending on the immediate roster fit of the return - extend any of Bo, Kirk, Vlad, Manoah - acquire a switch hitter or LHB who can hit 5th or better - non-tender Tapia in a really mean and vindictive way - diagnose Berrios' problem and develop action plan to make him better - acquire a backend SP of the reliable variety - acquire better depth SP (MiLB) - acquire higher upside RP - explore Moreno as a 3B/2B - stat-scout replacements on the depth chart for all of Hatch, Kay, Thornton, Griffin... basically anyone on the 40 who started in AAA this year. Because WOOF. so a Teoscar swap is possible... perhaps not likely

Anything beyond that is gravy if we're being pragmatic. Still a very good team.

It would let a certain chunk of the fanbase down but if they did literally nothing other than tinker on the edges of the roster that would be justifiable. Almost nobody from their good 2022 team is a free agent

Ray Verified Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Shocked that our luxury tax number is at $215M without adding a single player (luxury tax threshold is $233M for reference). Keep an eye out for Jose Urquidy getting moved. Apparently, he was almost traded for Willson Contreras 1-for-1 at the deadline before ownership nixed it. Maybe Danny Jansen for Urquidy+? Could fit the back of our rotation nicely.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Mining through that. It looks like you want to trade Jansen, which would be a colossal mistake. well not necessarily Moreno as a 2B/3B only happens if Jansen stays and no C get dealt
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Mining through that. It looks like you want to trade Jansen, which would be a colossal mistake. With Kirk being an All-Star and Moreno being the #1 prospect in all of baseball there just isn't anywhere to play Jansen so he's an obvious trade candidate.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Danny Jansen does in fact have 2 options left so if we can't find a trade partner for him we could stash him away in AAA in case Kirk or Moreno get hurt.

Term's working hard for TOTY as he knows the yearly award voting is right around the corner.
