So a rare small bit of negative news from this offseason, the Jays reached agreements with 16 of their 18 league min guys on the 40-man roster.

 

The two guys they didn't were Bichette and Manoah, who deliberately took pay cuts to indicate that they weren't happy with the team's offers.

Probably not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but also not exactly ideal. Don't think it would have killed the team to offer Manoah something like 750K and Bo something like 800K.

Based on the comments in this article, it sounds like Bichette was involved in his decision and Manoah has no f***ing idea what's going on and it's the agent's play on his side.

Why would either of these two players turn down those higher salaries, knowing that by doing so they would earn less — $23,550 in Bichette’s case; $6,200 in Manoah’s — this season?

Even these quotes could just be players kind of regurgitating stuff.

 

With legit young guys it's all about arb trajectories and big contracts. Whether they make 750k or 700k in these league min years is just irrelevant.

 

So I think some agents must have the opinion that these league min years are best used posturing. And s*** like this is what they think is effective at, I dunno... showing strength? showing that you are 100% committed to your own paradigms of self-evaluation?

Feels like a cheap way for agents to put make the team look cheap to try to put pressure on them in future negotiations. This is the kind of thing that the average fan who doesn't understand how this works will get up in arms over how the Jays are penny pinching for $6000 over Manoah, etc, etc.

"We have been approved for a significant renovation of Rogers Centre," says Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro.

 

Budgeting, planning, & design currently ongoing. Work is expected to begin next off-season with a target completion date of 2024. Plans expected to be unveiled by May.

Majority of renovation will focus on Rogers Centre’s lower bowl and concourses; won’t be much done to exterior of building.

 

Modernizing player facilities and fan experience are biggest priorities, per Shapiro.

The renovation is intended to buy the Blue Jays 10-15 years to continue devising a longer-term stadium solution, per Shapiro.

 

Ultimately, club will need to build a new ballpark, either in current location or elsewhere in the city.

Total cost of the privately-funded renovation project is expected to be announced in a couple months when plans are unveiled.

 

Expectation today is that around 30 per cent of the work will be completed next off-season, with final 70 per cent occurring in winter of 2023-24.
