You missed the " for a 28 year old in AAA part " .... a 28 year old in AAA should be destroying AAA, not being merely above average.

He's had ankle injuries that killed his hype, maybe a healthy Bird can breakout, who knows, those numbers aren't bad. We'll see. It's likely all moot if Atkins signs one LHB.

Small sample size or not, "all he's ever done is rake" is a pretty colourful assessment of his career.

It sure would be nice if he rakes for us though.

Look at his minor league stats, man? This isn't hard.

I'm aware, just saying that his numbers in AAA last year were nothing to be super hyped about like the other poster seemed to be.

Imagine Bird being this years Colabello or Smoak lol

If he does, wouldn't that also mean something has not gone according to plan?

All things being equal...where would Bird fit on this roster? Wouldn't Vladdy have to get hurt for Bird to get an opportunity?

Idk man it was just a passing thought in my head. No Frills slugger comes outta nowhere to hit in the middle of the order for a Blue Jay playoff team

It's possible, all he has ever done is rake. Hopefully he's past his injury woes, last year he played 112 games, most since '13.

You have always been high (pardon the pun) on Bird way back to when he came up and dominated in a short stint.

Stranger things have happened. Maybe he gets healthy and finds it.

Bird would be the lefty on the bench rather than McGuire, who would have been previously punted into the sun, where he belongs.

I get that, but I was more referring to him getting 300-400 AB's like Colabello/Smoak. For that to happen, something has to have gone wrong. It's not like he has much defensive flexibility.

But here's hoping for a dangerous bat to call on off the bench.

Oh no doubt, Bird (if he made the team) would be nothing more than a pinch hitter off the bench that if he made it on base would be lifted for a pinch runner, a guy you put in after the 7th in any kind of blowout win/loss to protect Vlad from pointless injury, and maybe 1 start every 10 games. like... 200ish PAs would be the hope and that he hits like Matt Stairs did when he was here.

Remember who our manager is though. Bird would be batting cleanup at least twice a week.

If he's too good Charlie will pinch hit him for Springer or some stupid s*** one day

Fair point. It's hard to want nice things, when you know the manager would f*** up the nice things and use them wrong

Exactly, That thought crossed my mind when we were talking about the bullpen with Andrew Vasquez or David Phelps, being the 8th man, if they are better than others Im ok with that, but with Charlie, he might send Pearson down to give one a spot. You just never know. Wait maybe he decides on who makes the team by playin rock, paper scissors.

Now that you've put that in my head I'm wondering what Charlie is going to do to f*** this lineup up...or how he's going to misuse the bullpen.

Ugh.

Corey Dickerson going to log 500 ABs as our primary DH over Kirk.

I feel ya. The Projections aren't kind to Kenley but his statcast looks nuts.

I also think we are entering that territory where the team is so damn good that guys like him actually make sense for us when they wouldn't for an 85-win team.

Ha, Braves just signed Kenley Jansen for 1 year 16 mil.

I change my mind. Kenley is definitely cooked and that's a big overpay. Good job to avoid Ross.

Agree on general but I just had in my mind this vision of Kenley Jansen being a 0.4 reliever blowing a bunch of games and Chuckles just keeps rolling him out their in the 8th and 9th all the way to the bitter end

Age, injury history, walk rate last year... And I think Eno says his stuff is down or something. Or command+ cratered. I forget

Left handed bats are pretty much all gone in FA. Conforto is there but will be on the more expensive side. Gardner is available but I'd rather wipe my ass with sandpaper than sign that guy. Might need to look at a trade.
