The_DH Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Freeman will most likely get 6/180. That’s what it seems. For that money I think I would rather have kept Semien and then trade for a lefty bat in the outfield.

Valera went from pinch hitting for Kirk to getting released. Seems like a disconnect between our manager and Shatkins lol.

jerb Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Mike Wilner @Wilnerness #Bluejays let us know that Breyvic Valera was released to allow him to sign with a foreign professional team, I'm assuming overseas. Best of luck to him!

Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 5/100 for Freeman? Never happen. 5/150 minimum. Okay, I would s*** in my pants and throw up.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 4/100 would fit with our timeline, $, and when we want extra money to extend Vlad and Bo Maybe $40M, 30M, 25, 25, 25. $40M works for 2022.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 So is it looking more like Story is the backup plan for Bryant? Would that mean its looking more likley that we pull out a win and finally get Bryant...looking like it imo
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 There's a draft pick connected to Taylor, correct?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Yes Taylor received and rejected the Dodgers qualifying offer Edited December 1, 2021 by G-Snarls
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Kris Bryant has no pick attached, just saying .
Ray Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Kris Bryant has no pick attached, just saying . Bryant's also going to cost significantly more than Taylor. Think this front office is done shelling out $100M+ contracts for the foreseeable future unless it's to retain our own guys. Hope I'm wrong, but guys like Davidi and Nicholson-Smith have said as much.

Honestly I'd be happy with any of below: - Taylor - Bryant (less happy because of cost) - Freeman - Ramirez (as long as it doesn't cost Moreno)
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Yeah most likely. Taylor sign or Ramirez trade seems most likely at this point. Honestly I'd be happy with any of below: - Taylor - Bryant (less happy because of cost) - Freeman - Ramirez (as long as it doesn't cost Moreno) I'd be cool with any of the above, but with the additions of: (in order of preference) Ketel Marte Josh Donaldson Matt Chapman Kyle Seager (at this point it would likely make more sense to wait for Moreno)
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Think a more realistic scenario for us could be Donaldson (Twins eating some salary there) and Schwarber.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I'd be cool with any of the above, but with the additions of: (in order of preference) Ketel Marte Josh Donaldson Matt Chapman Kyle Seager (at this point it would likely make more sense to wait for Moreno) Marte is a good shout. He has 2 club options for 23 & 24 so I wonder if his cost would equal Ramirez? I wouldn't want to do 2 trades as that certainly would empty the farm with Groshans, Pearson, Martinez & Kirk likely going the other way. 1 of Marte or Ramirez makes sense though.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I want Correa so bad, lol. I know the Jays aren't in on him but I'd flip if they got him.

I was legitimately expecting us to get one of the big SS's from this class. I thought that guy would have been Semien but I'd be pretty disappointed if we don't make another major move to get someone. Guess we might have to wait until after this upcoming lockout.

The Iceman Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I am totally fine with Smith at 3rd base and Biggio - Espinal platoon at 2nd to start. Lets see what we have. Take the spare $$$ and shore up the pen. Any left over $$$ use it to acquire a player at the deadline. A healthy Springer, and improved O from the catcher position will help offset the offense lost from Marcus S We don't need to win games by +5, we need to win more of the 1 run games with a trusted BP.

We were a team that was expected to win 99 games last year. Luck, bad bullpen and poor management decisions all play into underperformance with Luck being the major factor! Just a little luck and a lessor team and we could win more games last year. Full seasons of Manoah, Berrios, Springer and we are arguably just as good. We just need a little luck! Still let's sign or trade for another piece or two and create a super team!

Even if we don't sign or trade for a third baseman, in what world is Kevin Smith ahead of Espinal on the depth chart? Smith is and will be insurance if we have terrible luck with injuries, while playing in Buffalo.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 According to fangraphs the Jays are sitting around $161,000,000 payroll right now with arb estimates. Vladdy's estimate seems low too at only $7.9 million. Looking at what...another $15-20 million left to spend if the right players agree to come to the Jays?

If you are fine handing the every day 2nd base job to Biggio sure. .931 OPS in Buffalo for Smith with + defense. Use him or lose him.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I know the Jays are still probably an IF short, but at least they have some internal options there. The rotation still goes 1-4 and then.... hope. need another starter also. The internal options for starter in the minors are nothing to be thrilled with, and even Pearson is a prayer at this point. Stripling will get his reps for sure due to injury, but this rotation is still not ready at all.

I agree. I think for the same money , Jansen would be a better get than seager. We have our set 5 bullpen guys and I’d think if healthy merryweather and borucki (both out of options) are 6 and 7. 8 man would preferably be someone with options but stripling at this point. Or with roughly 30-35m left to spend , sign Jansen, seager, and a 15m sp (trade stripling and save 4m) Or use stripling at 5th sp and sign a 15m bat
