I can’t see this actually happening

Most jobs these days require you to be vaccinated, can't really avoid it. I'm sure some people will complain, but I don't imagine the vocal minority can win on this point anymore.

Until employment becomes anything other than "at-will", individuals can whine all they want about not being vaccinated and it doesn't matter. A business owner has every right to set his own employment requirements, as long said requirement don't fall into discrimination legislation. Since vaccination status doesn't fall under that umbrella, the tears will flow and be delicious to drink.

They win on the National Post comments echo chamber.

If MLB institutes a mandate then yes.

The problem is what if MLB doesn't institute a mandate ?

Some people have been naively thinking, in that case, Toronto would hold a home-field advantage for the entire year, if teams can't bring their entire squad to Toronto. I can't see Boston and New York just allowing Toronto to have that kind of advantage.

Who knows. Maybe they do let Toronto have that advantage... Nobody seemed to try and fight for Kyle Irving.

Maybe Boston and New York will have all their players and staff vaccinated if they want to field a full team in Toronto. I mean, there have been issues where players with visa or passport issues haven't travelled with their team to Toronto before, and no games were forfeited in those cases.

Or players with felony convictions not being able to cross the border.

I'm sure this issue will be on the list of things to do in the CBA negotiations.

There lies the problem, the business doesn't currently have a vaccination requirement. If MLB institutes a vax requirement the problem is solved, if they don't, and if some key owners and/or the union don't want one it's a mess.

I don't think there's any way Canada prevents unvaxxed MLB players from coming to play in Toronto. MLB will react by forcing Toronto to play out of Buffalo. The political blowback of this is too great.

There will be a deal, just as before.

Why are people so convinced that there will be an exemption made for the Jays, when the announcement of the mandatory vaxx for pro or amateur athletes was just announced? Ya, pretty wild that the Jays international status would be impacted by COVID/vaccination, given how we haven't seen that before (besides the first 18 months of COVID, of course).

I don’t think this would happen at all. Don’t players have to be vaxed to play in NY? Which is why Irving is currently sitting out. Are they gonna tell the Yankees and Mets that they can’t play at home either?

1) Again, why is there an automatic assumption that government decisions wouldn't apply to athletes?

2) In the case of NY, the rules apply to indoor venues, so Yankee/Mets players won't be impacted. However, there's a reason Kyrie isn't playing rn and it's because government policy didn't make an exemption for star athletes.

Pretty foreign concept to some here that government policy and the interests of baseball teams may not align! And in some cases, the answer will be to simply deal with it.

I still expect Ray to sign elsewhere. Some team is going to bet on 2021 being close to the new norm for him, and I'd rather it be someone else.

My guess is Atkins goes after one bigger SP either in free agency or trade, and then gets a 2nd SP who is more of a project. It was mentioned in another thread, but Kikuchi seems like someone Atkins would give to Pete Walker to see if he can turn it into something (LHP, throws 95, misses bats at a decent clip). He's more in the project category. The bigger fish is harder to predict, but there are still a bunch of options in free agency, and also short term options in trades (A's SP's, Castillo/S.Gray, Marlins SP's, etc).

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face but sign Jon Gray & try and trade Gurriel, Kirk, Groshans ++ for Castillo.

No thanks. That's far too much for Castillo.

I keep circling back to Carlos Martinez. 20 innings in a covid year where he had oblique problems. I just throw that out. Last year he had the ankle injury and the thumb issue. The thumb could have been something that had bothered him for a while effecting performance. He's an intriguing by low candidate. Can he get the velocity back? Can Pete work his magic. Martinez has a very live arm.

Is it though? He's a 4 fWAR pitcher with two more years of control and potential to be an ace in the right environment. He's very similar to Berrios actually.

I don't want to part with Moreno, Martinez or Pearson if we can avoid it.

I suppose we could replace Gurriel with Biggio, but I doubt Reds budge for that. It needs to be a bit painful for it to work.

Ya but that’s still way too much. That’s an offer you make to Miami for Alcantara not two years of Castillo

That's what people said about Ray, Gausman and Matz at one point. All 3 are getting nice deals. Looks like Ray is coming back to the Jays!

If only that was the real Ken Rosenthal that tweeted that!

Got me excited for 2 seconds even though I don't want to give him a 5 year deal at the AAV he's expecting lol

Wow! Pretty amazing that A-Rod earned 25 million a year in 2000... What is the highest AAV now? 35 million? 40? These guys aren't keeping up. I think highest AAV went from like 1 million to 25 million from 1980 to 2000 but has slowed since... Scott Boras needs to up his game.

Gonna love to see the fairness opinion that would have to be done for such a sale.
