Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 TO be fair, I honestly don't think Ray or Berrios are playoff winning teams #1's either, so... it seems my bar for playoff team pitching a slightly higher than some. Apparently.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Berrios still has room to improve. Berrios - #1 Manoah - #2 Stroman - #3 Ryu - #4 Matz - #5 That's a bonafide playoff calibre rotation. Add some depth SP and its fine. Get better BP pieces though.

You seriously believe the Jays would bring back Stroman after he accused Grichuk of being a racist?

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Grichuk is a nothing player, who cares

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 He isn't? He (Stro) isn't coming back or he (Grichuk) isn't racist? Answer both is no, I don't think so.
Skinny Wolf Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 List - The jobs to do for this off-season: 1. Berrios - long term contract 2. Teo Hernandez - long term contract 3. Ray - resign 4. Matz - resign 5. Grichuk - trade 6. sign a elite closer
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I feel like we should finally make the Jon Gray dream finally happen. Just years later. His velocity returned this year and I feel if you get him with Pete Walker he might be able to finally unlock is full potential. And I think they could get him at a fairly affordable rate. Still only 29. The other big target I want the Jays to look at is Kyle Schwarber if he doesn’t become a Legend in Boston this Post Season. He’s the perfect high on base Lefty at-bat to hit at the top of the Jays lineup. Imagine him and Springer back to back to start a game. We can rotate him with Gurriel and Vlady between LF, 1B, and DH. Also feel he could come at an affordable rate. Grichuk needs to be moved off this roster. Whatever amount of money you have to send a long with him you do it. Hopefully you can get a decent reliever in return from him or something but wouldn’t expect much. I think Colorado might be our perfect bitch team for this type of move. They are going to lose Story. They need to move on from Blackmon. Gotta sell the fan base on some power. In comes Gruchuk who probably easily hits 30 homeruns in that ballpark. Will be interesting to see how they build this bullpen. But I don’t think its in a horrible spot as it was last year. Romano, Mayza, Cimber, Richards will all be back next season. Couple more power arms and some depth and we good to go. Should be an exciting off-season. Even if we lose Ray and or Semien this team has an excellent chance to get better collectively. And the core is very much intact and in an excellent place to build off.

Schwarber suxxxxxx defensively, and BP is volatile as f***.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I liked what Atkins did/said man... he'd like to reset hit go and move on to adding from there. Progressive words for the franchise.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 He (Stro) isn't coming back or he (Grichuk) isn't racist? Answer both is no, I don't think so. It runs deeper than the "issue" with Grichuk. Regardless if they trade Grichuk, as long as Atkins, Shapiro and maybe even Montoyo are there, I think there is a snowball chance in hell Stroman comes back. IMO that is a good thing, I don't want him back and I don't think he is a good fit for the current team, attitude etc.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I would take Stro back for the right price. Dude can pitch and you can basically pencil him in for 180+ innings of 3.50ish ERA. And yeah, he's probably a douchebag but he's got swagger too, and honestly, this team could use a little swagger.

There is no chance they bring him back.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 That's meaningless. Dude is an alpha, the team needs alphas. He's uhhhh not an alpha. Whatever the Greek is that pretends to be an alpha because of insecurities, that's Stroman.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 I love Stroman and would welcome him back. He's good and wants to win. Why does everyone hate him? Because he hated being traded? Because he vocalized what a lot of fans felt about the team not opening its purse strings at the time? The only tension I thought that hurt the team was the weird animus between he and Sanchez. And who cares about that now? The guy is talented and mostly stays healthy. Maybe one concern I would have is how would he integrate into a team that seems really happy and joyous and loves to celebrate like they do. Stroman seems a little intense for that chemistry, but I thought Ray and Semien were too intense for that, too, and look where they ended up. Happy and joining right in.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 What's Stroman probably going to get? 6 x $20 million? 5 x $25 million? I really hope the FO can get Berrios extended this off season.

Everything you are saying about him on the field is true, but he's not just "vocal". He's arrogant, likely to the point of being a clubhouse cancer. I mean he has had multiple run-ins or negative interactions with teammates or other players at this point.

In math, it brags about it's number of decimals...who the f*** cares about decimals. In desserts, it comes off as an alpha dessert but it's no cake. Alpha desserts are not sold on roadside stands.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Say no to Stro. Of course he would say he's interested in returning, potentially adds another team to his suitors to help drive up his price. He's already hinted at a few teams. Stroman is all about himself, and he seems to have a personality that would rub a lot of teammates the wrong way.

If Ray would come back, or Scherzer would come here of course most people would take them instead of Stro. Stro isn't anybody's first choice, but he is a guy who seemed to like it here, and may like coming back... Not always possible to get the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd choice, Stro seems gettable, maybe because he is a head case he won't be the other teams first choice. Could see Toronto and Stro both being left without good partners then they come to the table and work things out.

That sounds like almost every player from the 2015/2016 teams though. Pretty sure our management had something to do with that. There's a reason why they cleaned house totally since they didn't want any toxic leftovers. If they could have traded all the fans around that time, they would have too lol.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I imagine the Jays will kick tires on Rodon too. Hopefully they can get one of Scherzer, Ray, or Rodon Really hoping they can get Syndergaard to sign as well. If not let's hope they can bring Matz back. 1. Sherzer/Ray/Rodon 2. Berrios 3. Ryu 4. Manoah 5. Syndergaard/Matz That'd be one hell of a rotation.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Oh man are you setting yourself up for disappointment. Nah. I'm not worried. Even if they get spurned by all those big names I'm pretty confident the Jays FO will have a strong rotation next season. They are apparently pretty good at finding starting pitching. Look at what they had to work with last off season...Ryu and a bunch of question marks. Then to top it off Ryu ended up having his worst season, and Pearson didn't take a step forward like everyone had hoped, yet the Jays still had a very good rotation. This off season they already have a much stronger nucleus to build around with Berrios, Manoah, Ryu and Stripling.

How quickly you forget 2020 when this FO brought in Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson and Matt Shoemaker to anchor the rotation (along with Ryu). They also ran Thornton and Pearson out there. Any claim that this FO "is pretty good at finding starting pitching" is laughable. The reality is dumpster diving is a risky approach and very few FO's are able to consistently 'hit'. I would suggest we got really lucky this year. Ray and Matz magically turned their careers around, Manoah stepped right in and became a stud and we generally got very lucky on the injury front. Keep in mind the FO went bullpen dumpster diving in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Worked really well in 2019 and 2020 and it s*** the bed this year - forcing them to give up assets to plug holes.
